  1. For those of you still waiting to be called don't worry they will get to you. Best advice.. start reading the rulebook as soon as you get it. You will be taught on the signal exam, practicals, quizzes and everything in between by your own study and the TSS, but knowing the rules is on you it's the most important part of working for the "Authority" because it carries through in all titles in case you want to move up. And please come to work, too many people are getting their probation extended for calling out. 3 months for a few days isn't worth it.
  2. Thanks, my class was spoken to by School Car Superintendent James and several Line Superintendents about operation. "No cowboy or hotshot sh**". "Let the signals clear in front of you, etc..". One guy I posted with said forget the aspect on timers, just watch the stop arm go down and you're good. 🤯
  3. Hey everyone! I just graduated last Monday from School Car and I gotta say it was quite the experience. Everyone here that recently started or about to start be prepared for a boot camp like experience. I don't know you but I have faith in you guys. Build relationships with your class mates and put the work in, you got this. My 2 cents on Road Posting is that it's great for learning routes and where the signals are, but the people you post with love to tell you how to operate. Operate however you feel is comfortable and safe, don't let anyone rush you either. Better to explain why you're late than you hitting a signal. For those people who are waiting, don't be discouraged you will get called. Thanks to everyone on this forum for the help and advice. Be safe, no shortcuts or senior methods! Lol Peace ✌️..
  4. The list was extended a couple of weeks ago, Transit will continue hiring Train Operators just at a slower pace. This week is my class's last week in school car, there are about 5 induction groups after ours. Tss's are spread thin so hiring might slow down for a bit.
  5. You might have to print out that book. It's part of your uniform and it would be considered "not fit for duty",unfortunately.
  6. There is always overtime, as a student you won't really see any until you're YX and Road posting. I'm in the B division.
  7. Damn, reading these posts from the soon to be T/O's takes me back to the excitement and anticipation of starting the job. I'm still in School Car on my 3rd week of Road Posting and it feels like I'm a totally different person. To all my incoming classmates, be prepared to experience a combination of boot camp and school! That's exactly how it's going to feel like but you'll enjoy it with your fellow induction classmates. I'm nearing the end of School Car and will be on my own in a few weeks. I'm getting a taste of the real thing and it's an entirely different beast, late clears almost every day, no lunches, extra trips right when I'm about to sign out, praying that a signal on time clears at less than half the posted speed 🙏, 10 mph through a river tube because of flagging on that extra trip 😑.... Not ranting I just love what I do ,have fun in School Car, I love being on the road but I miss that class experience already. Congratulations to everyone starting soon and good luck. Filling out an exception sheet for a late clear as I type this lol. ✌️
  8. Good news for those that are waiting. "There are scheduled T/O & C/R New Hire Orientation classes from August to November average 40 to 60 new hires per orientation class."
  9. I would contact HR @ 180 Livingston street rtoemploymentoperations@nyct.com or michelle.rivera-vargas@nyct.com Let them know that you won't be able to work the schedule. Most likely you'll be taken off the list but your list # stays the same. Just reinstate your name through DCAS once your schedule becomes accommodating. You'll get preference when they select from the list again.
  10. Yeah, everyone in the group chat is talking about it and it's sad to hear because we are also YX right now. Reenforces how dangerous this job is, be careful everyone. No one specifically knows what happened, but please remember THREE POINTS OF CONTACT when boarding from the tracks. I do even while putting up barrier springs or crossing from one car to the next while the train is moving.
  11. Hey don't feel demoralized bro, I'm in the class ahead of you and we are currently YX. The more you work on your own the more confident you'll feel operating, things are going to start clicking. At the end of my shift on Friday I was asked to take a light train for a replacement from Church Ave to Jamaica Yard and back via the F line. I was nervous at first trying to remember where to announce myself and punch, but now I feel a lot more confident. It's not as bad as some people think.
  12. Yup, I was at 130 today and the TSS's asked if anyone was passing out PDF copies of the Signal exam.
  13. Thanks bro, I found out this morning we'll be at Coney island next Saturday. My TSS says we'll work on whatever the yard has available.
  14. I want to know the same, next Saturday is my first practical but we have no idea where our group is going or what equipment to expect. How did you find out the yard location? P.S. you got this bro 💪
  15. Yeah it's the final raise in the current contract. You can check it out on the union website. *EDIT This was meant for TA718
  16. No problem bro, I was in your shoes just over a month ago. It's not a hard job, just a very serious one. My class is right ahead of you so if you join the B division we'll more than likely run into each other at some point. You'll have fun operating the trains especially on your Road days. We get a raise tomorrow too!😁
  17. Not Richardson, TSS Carney. Yep study, try to get the PDF version of the books from your TSS, makes life easier.
  18. For anyone who is dreading School Car you're already putting yourself in a bad position. It's nothing to fear, it's called School Car for a reason you're in school. The only thing you should worry about is trying to stay awake after lunch. I'm in school now and it's not bad at all. It might seem overwhelming at first but it gets better. Create good habits and you'll be fine. I have one of the strictest TSS who co-authored the current text books for school and I'll tell y'all what he told us," You're going to make mistakes, this is the time to be your worst as a TO because there's only one direction to go from the bottom..". Study and get there early, on time is late.
  19. Once you pass your medical, you will finalize your paperwork, take your ID pictures, take your oath, fingerprints and you will officially be an employee of NYCT. Congratulations
  20. No problem, and yes it's Monday to Friday for the majority of class. Some Saturdays
  21. A division is 5 months now and almost 7 for the B division. You'll get your schedule by the end of the first week showing you where to report. Times are usually 7 am, and 9 am for road days. Everything is subject to change though
  22. Don't stress it, once you have the results email "ecmro@nyct.com" with your info and they'll give you an appointment ASAP. BTW a June class has been confirmed, both May and June classes are going to large. I had 80 people in my induction.
