For the funds the (MTA) has, they can certainly do better on this.

Which circles right back to the new deep cleaning program

We're basically saying "gee, it sucks stuff isn't being cleaned" in response to the fact that they're cleaning more stuff in more thorough ways now. Hopefully they'll keep this up and expand the deep cleaning to more cars and stations. 33 St on the (6) definitely looks great – someone mentioned it got a deep clean and it really looks like it's 15 years newer from its prior renovation.

Side note: I never understood why some of transit’s regular wash facilities couldn’t produce this.

I think the normal car washes are basically a souped-up car wash; things like graffiti smears on stainless steel (I don't know how to describe it, but the spots on cars where paint was obviously cleaned off) as well as steel dust buildup and other grime probably penetrate deeper and are harder to clean than a simple wash. Also, it seems like they got some new end bonnets as well

Now will that set go to East New York or 207th?? Hmmm...

I believe it's part of another 4-car set at ENY that was awaiting its arrival. I think for some reason 3070-73 was delayed and held back instead of coming in a while ago when the rest of the 30XX cars arrived

I think the MTA needs reform, like maybe we need to start over, the taxpayers and us riders have enough

Wasn't part of the whole congestion pricing thing part of a reform package for the MTA (to what degree we'll see, given that it's Cuomo of course)

The question I have, however, will be what happens when motorists smarten up and congestion revenue starts falling short,

Assuming they move to other modes of transport (public...transport...even?), that revenue could very will just become fare revenue. That's the brilliance of it – you have an alternative in place so that if people are so discouraged from driving, they'd take a train or a bus (which we have lots of). These people likely still need to travel into the city, and if even a small fraction of the drivers decide to simply change their lifestyle, a vast majority still either will pony up the fee, or will switch to another mode of transit.

Why did the (6) get those NTTs?

They split service into two sections, which meant trains couldn't come from Westchester, so the Manhattan segment (149-GC to City Hall) had equipment from Jerome, as well as a few R62As which I assume were moved downtown before the weekend began.

Well that's definitely the Penn Station (2)(3) announcement... most likely was just an accidental copy paste

Really funny since the (4) would have the normal M34 - 33 St announcement for late nights, wouldn't it...and the (6) had that transfer before it lost the R142As, didn't it?

So I think the (6) is single-tracking from 3 Av-138 St to 125 St on the Brooklyn Bridge-bound track, hence Pelham Bay Park trains having to go express from 3 Av to Hunts Point Av due to lack of switches to get the train back to the local track.

Oh, that makes a lot of sense! Thanks!

Even if they see the sign on the floor below thats still not gonna stop them in my opinion...

Feels like one of those gates you see on r/CrappyDesign or something that could easily be opened by a thief. Sure, it's not going to stop determined folks, but to a casual person who's just taking the opportunity, the presence of a gate itself (or in this case the fare evasion warnings) could be a good enough deterrent to at least curb some fare evasion.

But yes, this is what I’m talking about:

Wow! Just curious, what would happen if a passenger went to the front window? Would they get yelled at by the T/O (or would one be not even allowed to step in to begin with lest they be haggled by an irked employee)

Sometimes employees will forget to close the door all the way, and when the train starts speeding up or brakes hard, the door will fly and get stuck in the half position. I've seen it happen twice on the (1) .

Anyone have a pic of this? I'm not really understanding what's being described and I've never seen what (at least I think) is being described.

Not sure when this started but Bedford Av on the (L) inside the tiles are off on the side and lights in the middle are all off, temp lights were on on the bulbs.

I saw this at least back in late February. While it sure doesn't look good I find it...kinda interesting to see the station practically gutted while still being open. A peek behind the curtain of sorts, IMO

The NYC subreddit doesn't do much besides complain about everything. It's kind of their thing.

I posted a nice video of the 7 at sunset, and someone even joked when I mentioned appreciating the subway, saying "What would this sub do if it couldn't comment "tHaT pRoBaBlY sMeLlS lIkE pIsS" every day"

It is the same thing with the "Caution; Bus is turning"

I feel like that's also a thing for visually impaired people, no? Same as the crosswalks that have noise indicators and buttons to alert people when it's safe to cross.

but its pretty cool that it sounds like West Side Story

I remember the NYT did an article from at least a decade ago on this coincidence, but they definitely didn't go into as much detail for the reason as to why. I really liked the casual explanation of how the inverters work, and how they make the sound, since I never really grasped that before.

I've also come to like the ONIX sounds more in the past few months – when the HVAC is off I like hearing the motors whirring up along with the inverters on the R160s.
