So I was randomly looking through a SubChat thread and saw this comment.

"An R179 is a R211 with 1998 color interiors. R142, R143, R160, and R188s can trainline with each other. R179s cant. R179s are an experiment of picking another generation of parts by the MTA for the R211s/R262. Door motors without limit switches, only stepper motor feedback is the "revolutionary" design on R179s." If this is accurate, then it is wise of the MTA to test these technologies on a smaller fleet, such as the R179s. It would be better to get these design flaws worked out for larger orders like the R211 and R262.

For those who are interested, Byford held a news conference today that talks about the R179s.

Car 3887 on the was missing it’s builder plates, on both ends of the car (like the R42s). I guess they were about to retire that pair until the R179 fiasco happened.

Well there are stickers that say “do not lean on the door” for a reason. I was on a  train before and the door opened slightly, but then closed itself, while the train was moving. (R62A, idk the car #)

Besides the point, this is completely outrageous! At least all of the R179s have been delivered, but this is ridiculous.

The R32's from the goes too well it's a very obvious guess 

 

An R32 swap between 207 and ENY would only result in a loss in cars, and is utterly pointless.

1) ENY just went 100% NTT, you think that they want the older trains back?

2) The 100 R179s on the  would trade for the (supposed 142?) R32s. The 32s are utilized by the . By ENY giving their 179s to 207, they’ll only be used on the , because they’re four-car sets. The  would lose some cars, since they use some 32s. (The 32s are interchangeable between the , but not the 179s).

3) If the  is going to go full-length with the 211s, they would need to bump the four-car sets off the  to most likely ENY, ultimately doing another swap.

4) Maybe the  has a large outdoor section, but they still run 24/7. With the supposed 142 cars, you’re bound to have some sets running on weekends and late nights. At least the  the 32s can rest during late nights.

It would be for the best to retire the 32s, with 211s at 207, as it would be convenient, but more beneficial.

Currently on a Queens-bound , and the conductor announced that someone was struck by a train at Sutphin Blvd. We’ve been stuck for about 30-45 minutes between Roosevelt and Forest Hills. Never understood the seriousness on how Queens Blvd is a hot mess until now.

Someone already posted the train on YT. Seems like they’re still in tact. Looks like the set is now North-4798,South-4824.

Actually, he said pairs not cars.

This would bring the R32 total down to 142 from 222. (80 cars retired). Wonder how the spare factor will be affected. Seems like there will be less R32  trains now. Interesting!

Just saw two R179 cars right before the tolls on the GWB. The number plates weren’t installed on them. I guess Bombardier was rushing to deliver them lol.

Seems this set might be 3045-3049, which will wrap up this order once and for all!

that leaves only ~64 cars completely available for the . Add on the 100 R179s and you may just make service. The reason the  appears to be almost all NTTs is because they’re using some of the cars that would normally be on the . That says to me, car shortage. And remember that the R42s are still Chugging along 

Except the  hasn’t been fully utilizing its “restricted” fleet. We’ve seen the CBTC trains on the , for the past couple years at least. If spares become an issue, transfer a few R179 sets from the .

On a side note, aren’t the R143’s and R160s on the  going to be compatible with QBL CBTC?

Seems like whoever made the TTMG roster doesn't know how to count. I added the cars up and got 216 cars, however the roster includes car 3629, which has been retired. So it only includes 215/222 active cars, not 210. The seven cars missing were: 3496-3497, 3669, 3706-3707, 3878-3879. Seems to me that they just made an error.

A comment from another thread peaked my interest to investigate on the R32 rosters. I compared it to Calvin's roster and noticed that a few sets were missing, and didn't add up to 222. The following changes I made in bold:

Agreed. Riders like myself would appreciate the connection to the express from the LIRR during the evenings/late nights. 

The OMNY bases were installed at Cathedral Pkwy-110 Street .

On the southbound express track between fourth ave and church ave, for testing purposes only. Keep in mind this is separate from Culver CBTC (Ditmars-Coney Island).

Last week I rode on 2123, which still had the original floor.

I’ve been observing the R62A’s on the . AFAIK these sets have gotten the brighter lighting.

I also haven’t noticed any R62A’s on the  that kept their original rollsigns, after receiving the new lighting, unlike some sets on .

If 250 of the 258 five-car sets are getting CBTC, that would leave 40 cars for CI. I’d figure the other cars would go to Jamaica.

They must’ve SMS’ed 2321-2325 on the  in the past week. It unfortunately lost its original rollsigns. However, there are a few sets that were SMS’ed and kept the original rollsigns at 240th.

They’re currently installing the OMNY readers at 68 Street-Hunter College .
