a few months ago they came out with the updated seniority list it was over 2000 trackworker I wanna say currently it’s less than 1800 due to retirees people that got fired and died so far

I'm listed in the high 700's.. if it weren't for the pandemic,  what would you estimate as a time frame.for being called ? Is it worth waiting or pursuing a other career?

Been on the forums for a little while I’m currently a track worker got hired in 17 any questions I’ll be glad to answer

I have a few if you questions if you don't mind:

    1.  When there wasn't a pandemic, how much work was available? Overtime?

    2. Do you stay on jobs from beginning to end or are you reporting to a different site daily?

    3. Which task you find more enjoyable as opposed to task you hate?

    Thanks for feedback

Hopefully sooner or later, 180 is scheduled to re-open by phase 2.  RTO is in dire need of bodies right now, MoW I'm not too sure. I'm currently a Bus Operator and staying in my position until I get called for Track then I'm jumping ship. Hopefully we start to see the ball rolling around Julyish for us.

    Thanks for the update.

Don't need anything, MTA doesn't recognize outside stuff. Yes in order to become a full rate you have to be a dual rate or have been a dual rate within the last year. All dual rate spots are open at the pick. If you happen to pick a dual rate welder they just send you to a 3 day training course at the school and give you a letter to get your welding PPE and thats it, you are free to help on welding jobs now.

Track inspector has prerequisite that you have to have a year on the job already before you an pick a dual rate. That dual rate has a class for it which you can fail out of and lose the title.

Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated!

  6. Great information all around. I was reading up on the specialist picks and the qualifications Here. Just need some more clarification if anyone can provide. I understand that you must go through 'dual rate' first before you can land specialist job. In order to.land the dual rate positions, do you need a certification that is associated with the position or does the MTA provide the training/costs for the certification?. Example,  should I get my welding certification first before applying or does the mta provide the training? Thanks in advance to all responses !

A track specialist is a track worker who selected certain jobs at the main pick that either require them to have had additional training provided by transit, or have a commercial driver's licence.  A track worker will need to pick a certain type of job as a dual-rate first, and after at least a year as a dual rate, they will then be qualified to pick the specialist version of that job at the pick or via a bid.  Here's an example, A track worker picks a dual-rate welder job at the pick, transit trains them to do the job, after a year of having the title of dual-rate welder, they can now pick a specialist welder job pick if it's available to them at the next pick or bid.

A track specialist pay rate is currently $36.975, and tops out at $39.8175 in May 2022.  Track specialists are all paid the same rate regardless if they perform specialist work or not.  Dual-rates get paid the specialist rate only on the days they perform the specialist task, and on the days they don't, they get their regular track pay.

Career path options for track workers with just exams:

    A)  Track worker  ------> Maintenance Supervisor level 1 Track

    B) Track worker --------> Power Distribution Maintainer  (Third Rail Operations) --------> Maintenance Supervisor Level 1 Power Distribution

MS level 2  and Superintendent are positions you interview for and may have to meet education and additional requirements for.

The pay scale info was answered earlier.

    Awesome information.  Thank you

Does a list number below 4000 guaranteed that you will be called  before the list expires or its just luck if you ever get called?

I have been trying to guess about list numbers, time frame to employment, etc.. there is just no way to answer that with confidence. Many people dont accept job, fail screening or for other reasons dont make it regardless of list #. Now with everything that is happening with the job layoffs,  it's even harder. Might move slower , might move faster. I wish I knew too. My guess would be any # from 1 - 500 might be called this year. Maybe another 500- 600 next year. I think its possible to reach the higher thousands in about 3 - 4 yrs. They might even extend this list like they did the prior one. Have hope

Starting is $23.17 (this changes March 5th due to new contract, not sure what new starting will be) 40 hours a week with biweekly pay. OT is really scarce at the moment due to the whole LIRR scandal. Reach top pay at start of sixth year, you have to complete five.

payrate as of last contract is

    23.17 - 24.82 - 26.48 - 28.13 - 29.79 - 33.10

again this will change March 5 with new contract as top pay will be increasing by $3 and change.

take home is up to you really, depends on how much you put into your 401,457, if you even decide to have em, insurance options.  Was about 1200 biweekly take home when I first started, I only had 401 at time I’ve since switch to both 401/457.

If OT if comes back like it did before you can make money, I remember when I first started there was months long stretch with OT every weekend. 8 extra shifts a check. Now you can’t really get 1 extra shift a check in maintenance nights. capital workers are budgeted differently and aren’t really effected by this OT shortage.

  10. Can any track workers share any info regarding typical pay. I know currently it is 22 /hr 1st year, and goes up for 4 yrs. Just some basic info like, average hours a week, lowest pay check / highest pay check. Is pay day biweekly / weekly. Just some basic info like that, help determine where I would like to relocate and what to expect regarding pay. NY is an expensive town to live in. Any information like that would be appreciated. Thx

How did you get the address situation fixed? I still haven't received my scores. What do I have to do?

Create a login and register with the DCAS, email: examsunit@nyct.com - explain address situation and include: exam # (8600) , name, new and old address and last 4 digits of SS#, call and confirm/explain situation. I did all of these things and now hopefully wait for results/ response. Last option is to go down to 1 Centre Street and fix in person. I'm currently out of state and cant go in person till mid March. I had called and spoke with someone in Transit who gave me all this information. Hope it worked and hope it helps you. Keep posting new information

  12. I had contacted the MTA employment center and they said the only way to update my address was to go in person. I had updated my address in the DCAS online. I still haven't received my test results or any notice from MTA. I'm currently out of state , is there any other way I can have my address updated to ensure I receive all future employment mail ? I'm ranked in the high 700's and worried if this isn't resolved,  I will lose my employment chance.

  13. I received a email from DCAS confirming address change I submitted. Hopefully I receive the exam results notice and all subsequent mail. They did inform to contact the MTA as well to update. Other than make time to call them  between 11-4 which I haven't been able to due to work, is there a way to submit address change online? If not I'll wIt till Monday and somehow make time.

Hi everyone just want to know about the working conditions. Under the job description, it said able to lift 95 pounds of materials and equipment is that done regularly? I am not that physically strong normally just around 65-70 pounds.

Check the 3600 thread, go through pages 30-60 it explains some of the work / training the guys go through. The whole thread is pretty informative being that those guys are pretty much experienced track workers and have gone through what we will all be going through soon hopefully. I would read and jump ahead every 10 pages until you find the information you looking for or if you have time, browse thewhile thread.

According to Transit, they are saying you also have to contact DCAS. The form I received with my results says that you can complete this and email it to DCAS. Then again, you could also be receiving it in the mail any day now, because my notice of result is dated on the 27th. Hopefully that helps!

    Thanks! Much appreciated!

    Hello all.

I recently had a change of address and did not receive my list number. What do I need to do in order to get that plus every other important mail they will send. Is there a number I can call to update my address and have them resend list number??

I'm on  the same boat, haven't received any letter with results yet. I'm getting a little anxious and nervous. On the notice for exam 8600 there is a section that indicates what to do in the event of contact information being changed. I had followed the process last January and updated but I'm afraid they didn't do their job. I made an inquiry with the DCAS and awaiting a response. If I don't receive any word or letter today, my next step is to call the office in Livingston. If anyone has any other information regarding,  I would appreciate it.Hope this helps.
