  1. After orientation report back and tell us how it was, fingers crossed I’ll make it in by July ! I wonder what schedules they got left, I assume you’re working at GCT?
  2. Congrats! I was sent a conditional offer , but I’m having some minor road blocks right now ..unfortunately, but it should still work out in my favor , hopefully. did they tell you your schedule ?
  3. Okay that’s assuring , I was sure having a second job could get tricky , with the risk of being bumped and not knowing if your schedule is gonna change Up.
  4. Oh ok . I hope for that reason , I get a schedule I can work with . And okay lots of open positions is good. Praying I get something that isn’t too conflicting. Question , you think it’s possible having a second job while also being a terminal attendant?
  5. Thank you & Terminal attendant. And okay I figured it would be a situation where I would have to just accept what they have. I heard the union changed things up , that if you started after April you can’t bid out until a year , is that true? Do you see any open terminal position on your bulletin?
  6. So I finally got in MNRR railroad just waiting for my start date. It’s been a long time coming so I’m excited but I’m a little worried about the bidding and bumping. When you first get in, do you choose your schedule depending on what’s left or as a new hire your given a schedule? Also do they take where you live in consideration? I’m not sure if I’m gonna be placed at GCT but I would prefer it because I live in queens , couldn’t imagaine having to go to Harmon everyday ..
  7. Lit! okay Tim’s it is. I should do okay on the physical test I’m a little petite but I have great physical strength .
  8. Wait @Thinklikeamango are timberlands acceptable?
  9. Thank you , I will report for my medical soon and i have to bring those boots with me , I’ll check them out .
  10. I heard this . I was also comparing the starting wages for their assistant conductor position , I believe lirr pays more hourly for that as well. however assistant conductors at mnrr make top pay sooner 6 yrs vs 8yrs for Lirr , but even the top pay is higher @ lirr by like almost $3 .
  11. If you remember what schedules were those? Day, evening or overnight? just curious, I’m really hoping that I don’t land an overnight position , but I’ll embrace it either way, just happy to get this far..finally! also did you guys receive the raise in September to $24.11 like you mentioned?
  12. Thank you so much ! I got the job by the way . Thank you for all the information and tips along the way. If everything works out (fingers crossed) , I look forward to working with you. sidebar: what type of boots did you bring with you ?
  13. Finally called for a interview for this Any advice and tips will be helpful
  14. Hey @Thinklikeamango I was just wondering , did the union get to negotiate whether or not you guys are getting night differential for the new contract ? By the way I passed the Terminal appearance test, doing background now
  15. Oh I was under the impression that since the NYCT is covered by Nycers it was a city job. So basically your saying I can’t lose , whichever position I go for? I'm still intrigued by the differences between NYCT and Metro north, I’m certain they are some.
  16. Railroad as far as METRO NORTH OR LONG ISLAND RAILROAD? are you employed by either company? Can you shed some light?
  17. Congrats again I passed the test, & already completed my background. Im just waiting now.
  18. What is the current starting pay for conductor?
  19. Yea the pay is concerning, I’m currently in the process of doing my background check for metro north for their cleaning position and the pay is higher, however the opportunities and job advancement that can come from the transit cleaner position are appealing.
  20. I was talking more about experiences such as better wages over time, benefits, incentives. Are they any major differences working for the MTA in a civil service position such as train operator or bus operator vs working for LIRR or MNR. Im curious because I recently took an exam for MNR terminal attendant and I saw NYCT has a station cleaner exam open which would be a opportunity to work for the city , but the pay is less than what MNR is offering , but can be beneficial in the long run for advancement into station agent , conductor etc.
  21. Hey everyone, I’m sure what I’m about to ask is somewhere floating in this forum but I’ll ask anyway . Has anyone left NYCT and went to MNR OR LIRR? What were your experiences? Did you regret leaving your job with the city? I’m also interested in hearing from people that transferred from positions in MNR & LIRR , and decided to work for the city.
  22. Didn’t hear anything about my results either yesterday . Hoping to hear something today.
  23. I hope so as well fingers crossed. Curious to know what the position is really like as well as your schedule , really hoping not to get a overnight position if I make it all the way but either way , I’ll be grateful just to get in. If not I also applied for the transit cleaner position , I’ll get my food in that way, which ever comes first.
