Simulator was fun; we didn't get a lot of time in it since we spent a majority of the day going over signals, switches, and track scenarios. The TSSs at the Simulator were great; they went over all the signals with us.

 

I managed, after pulling into the station, to pull the lever too far back and put the train in BIE instead of full service. Oops.

 

I read the signal pamphlet every night, 1/2 hour minimum. As we see them in class, it will become muscle memory.

 

We have a good group; we help each other out with things, and are laid back. Our TSSs are great. We're back at Coney tomorrow.

 

Ill be looking out for you folks when you reach the Field..

Wow...sucks they failed. @Rtoman, In your opinion, once you studied the book everyday, was the test still as difficult as it seems like in the beginning? I'm sure that as I continue to study it will come naturally to me but I was just curious as to what you thought

 

You study it every day it will help it helped us a lot we was ready for the test.Still its human nature to be a bit nervous the day of it though since your JOB will depend on getting 100%...

Word to the Wise regarding these Signals you just posted, when you take the Signals Quiz the meaning of the signal MUST be what they teach you it is. Have anybody gotten their signals Book? If so Study that Effer left and right those are the signals you will be tested on.. Stay away from any Online stuff! All it will do is get you clipped if you fail that quiz and they arent playing!!!

I pretty much did the same thing today at the Van Courtland yard. Man you don't realize how massive these trains are until you are standing on the roadbed looking up at them...

Comforting task...How often do T/O find themselves doing this. I always wondered as a newbie will I be picking up my train from the yard (i.e Coney Island under the belt parkway) or will I be relieving a T/O at a train station, not sure what is more common.

Yesterday was going over the rule book again. A division split up for a little while doing right to know training. Its basically going over hazards you might encounter on the job. There are quizzes after each section and if you get it wrong, it goes over that section again until you get it right. Each person sits at a computer with headsets and you go at your own pace. I have no idea what the B division guys were doing.

Get used to doing that every Year around your birthday for the rest of your time down here, when you go for your medical and or hearing test.

Do yourself a big favor...Never take any advice, information ect from him. Already his reputation around the rto system is exreemly poor. And this goes for any future A division or current A division Train operators. Watch your back with him, HE WILL THROW YOU UNDER THE TRAIN.

I use a basic Nike backpack and I attach the escape mask to the outside w/ cable ties. The worst parts are the mask & rulebook, otherwise it wouldn't be too heavy. You can also try to keep some items on your person - on your belt or in pockets, like the radio, break handle/reverser holster, & other tools. There are a few T/Os & TSSs who don't even carry bags. Always carry what you need, but not a thing more.

 

 

Thats what i do i carry what i need..

And I have plenty of friends at Woodlawn. I'm a celebrity there. When I walk through the door, everyone literaly stops what they are doing. I know everyone there on a first name basis.

We got all of our tools. And books. And they weigh more than most midgets.

I suggest you folks invest in good bags but please try to stay away from the Suitcases!

When we did the third rail jumpers it was kinda cool actually, the worst part i had was retrieving and locking those effing portions...

Its Intense But still you Folks can and will have some fun trust me on this! Get to know each other people your classmates can be the backbone of your time down here. Things can open up so to speak in time you will see what i mean by this.

 

P.S Stay away from the foamers and Know It Alls! After a while you may "see" it start to show...
