  1. Yeah, once i found out you dont need a degree for train operator i really lost all my motivation. I went to Polytechnic University (now called NYU-Poly) to become an "engineer" but the job i really had in mind was "locomotive engineer", or "train operator".
  2. It wasn't "anti-Bronx". Im just saying, because of our economic condition and the way our schools are run, we dont get the same level of decent education as the rest of new york. I didnt really learn too much until i got to high school, which i attended in manhattan. Even then it was too late because when i got to college i couldnt really compete with everyone else, so i dropped out. Maybe im just an idiot, but im definitely NOT anti-Bronx
  3. Ah, maybe it was just my schools but there was more of an emphasis on "sit down and shut up" than actual learning
  4. You and me will probably be the only ones who grew up in the bronx lol. Hope im wrong though
  5. i figure it wouldnt be a crap shoot if im at the bottom of the next class anyway. you have to figure that everyone in the next class will have 97.5 or better exam score. you also have to figure that because of the socio-economic and education conditions of the Bronx, most people with scores that high will be picking B division. even though i currently live in the Bronx, i JUST got into contract on a co-op in Jamaica Estates, so the A division would be hell to get to unless they put me on the line every day
  6. If i know im gonna be at the bottom of the next class, could i ask to be pushed back so im at the top of the next class? Division choice is EXTREMELY important to me, more so than the seniority i'd be losing by waiting
  7. THATS WHY they're only in the 70s on the O/C list. Its a mixed class
  8. on page 1 of the pre-employment application, at the very top where it says "Title of Position", do they want "Train Operator" or our current job title?
  9. wait, we're not allowed to sleep in the waiting area? i have to be there at 7:30am on friday and i work evenings. that's like midnight to me
  10. #292 got his letter yesterday! That means mine is in the mail and i'll get it tomorrow. Woo-hoo!!! http://www.city-data.com/forum/new-york-city/703253-took-mta-train-operator-exam-got-47.html
  11. Are there any formulas to stop at the marker? Like slow down as you enter the station, when exactly to apply the brake? Or is it all just instinct?
  12. I think he meant that operating a train is hard. Ive only done it for 15 min at the BERA museum in CT and i can see the difficulty in stopping on the mark. That being said, it was a redbird and i only got 2 tries at it, but still, its no joke
  13. "Already"? In the 70's for a 40 man class??? I thought 80% of people fail the medical/drug tests! At least thats what i read in these forums. It looks like not only are more than half passing, but they're taking the job too!
  14. a DUI isn't just a regular violation, its a HUGE error in judgement. that said, i have no idea what their policy is lol
  15. same here. i guess we know what to expect in our mailboxes next monday! (or even tomorrow)
  16. Someone said its a general information release form. But if they ask for your medical records it has to specificially state that. It appears that it doesnt specifically ask for that
  17. LMAO yeah, he proved my point too. They couldnt ask to see his old EKGs, thats why they had to give him a new one! Reading comprehension wins the day again
  18. furthermore, the MTA in NOT a "covered entity" eligible to use or disclose our medical records http://www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/HIPAA-Administrative-Simplification/HIPAAGenInfo/AreYouaCoveredEntity.html
  19. I think they cant cross the line of looking at your personal medical records from your doctor
  20. Isnt it illegal for an employer to ask for your medical records?
  21. the list http://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/thechiefleader.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/f/e5/fe5b6146-0740-11e2-a3c5-001a4bcf6878/5061fbb6d0fef.pdf.pdf
  22. How much practice do you get at stopping at the mark before youre out on your own?
  23. And even if the tried to pull a fast one, civil service law says the list must be used for at least a year
