Hopefully they end up relabeling those as n1s back to Hewlett. There's no point in causing this confusion for the passengers. Just say you restored reverse-peak n1 service from Jamaica and call it a day.

It's insane that they effectively did that, yet chose to force people to transfer rather than provide direct service.

Why did they sign it to USB Arena instead of Elmont Rd.?

So all the N6 buses is not enough? Did they cut some N6 bus service? Also, if the N1 is going to the bus terminal at UBS like the Q2, Q110 and apparently the N6 shuttle which I saw last week on Hillside Av...how will the N1 get out? The way the Q2 and Q110 is a right turn only onto Hempstead Tpke/Hempstead Av.

Relying on the n6 to transfer to the n1 in time, or from the n1 to go a few stops, sucks. The n6 gets packed, late and bunched. This seems like a helpful extension. Also, Belmont Village (Shopping Center) will be opening soon. (Also connects the Arena to the Valley Stream LIRR.)

It won’t stop with the Q2 and Q110 because it won’t be able to turn around to head back to Hewlett. Instead I believe it will enter the Cross Island Parkway South (past 225th street stop) and then exit to loop back onto Hempstead Turnpike, making its first stop in front of the UBS parking garage.

I am one that is happy about the change to the n1 because I’ve always felt Elmont Rd/Hempstead Turnpike to be a stub for the n1. At least if we can’t get the Q4 to Elmont Rd, the n1 can connect to the Q2 and Q110 and provide an alternative to the n6 which is often packed. I can see more improvements to the n1 on the horizon.

The Cross Island south would be a bad merge for a bus, it would have to merge under the Hempstead Ave overpass just to exit again. I can see them using Cross Island North to Elmont LIRR station, then Cross Island South to Hempstead Ave West exit, then Left on Hempstead Ave. It would be nice if it actually served the LIRR Elmont station though.

Other options, if nimby approved, could be protected Left on 225th st, right on 103 Ave, right on 223rd st, right on Hempstead Ave.

or right on 222nd st (QV depot uses 222nd) , right on 101 Ave/100th Dr, right on Cross Island Pkwy/224th, left on Hempstead Ave.

How does the N6 turn around at the UBS arena?

It probably deadheads to Elmont Road to become a n1 to Hewlett. There are two n6 runs to USB Arena in the AM that conveniently line up (schedule wise) with two southbound n1 runs, which are also during the timeframe that the Northbound n1 runs go to Jamaica.

Yeah it’s odd. I saw one of those trips one morning to “UBS Arena.” Maybe it’s interlined with the southbound n1, since AM n1 trips go to Jamaica?

There seems to be two AM n6 trips (7:18 & 7:54) to USB arena, which appear to enable interlining with two n1 trips (7:55 & 8:32) to Hewlett.

  5. I used combo ticket this past weekend, the transfer between LIRR and MNRR isn’t as bad as many people made it seem. (You dont have to go all the way to the south end to exit.)

However, the combo origin/destination trips in TrainTime didn’t show the MN track info. I had missed the GC train by 15 seconds in Jamaica. I had to look up the MNRR trip individually, get the track number, position myself on the next LIRR train to GC to exit to the appropriate escalators which connected to the stairs corresponding to the range of MNRR tracks that my train was leaving from (thanks new MTA App offline maps!). And I was still able to connect to the originally planned MN train with a min or two to spare.

But other than that, it’s not a long trek to the south end of GCM to connect to MN when there are other connections at 47th (tracks 11-42) and 45th(tracks 102-114) streets.

n6: short turns not on the schedule between UBS and Jamaica? I would argue it should atleast continue out to Elmont Rd

I agree, it’s odd that they’d choose the first stop.

Fact of the matter is that nobody wants that stop for "1 Old County Road" (not only is that building not remotely sought after anymore, I'm not so sure if there's any tenants/businesses operating out of there these days! ) & the stop at Glen Cove/OCR is literally right in front of that shopping center.... So what if it's the next stop after RFM (which is the reason why I firmly believe that n22x's didn't originally/initially stop there)... I mean hell, for me, it's a 10-12 min. walk b/w the 2 stops - so for the average person, it's easily over 15+..... Hell, during peak mall hours, it can take buses 10+ minutes to get between the 2 stops with all that traffic spilling onto, off of, and already along OCR alone....

When I used the N15 in LIB days, many were riding to One Old Country Rd in Nurse attire, and Clinton/Glen Cove Rds for the shopping Centers, if not East Gate Blvd. Anyone going to Roosevelt Field preferred the more direct N35. If there are trip generators in the area again, they may need to revert the old N15 routing at all times. The last southbound N15 was about 10PM and Glen Cove Rd stop would be busy, many waiting for the N15 to Hempstead/Long Beach and N22 to Jamaica ( Some for N24).

I agree. UBS Arena feels like an inconvenient spot to short turn, as it's kind of in the middle of nowhere. Looks like NICE are doing their own spin of the proposed Q82 /s

Relying on NICE in general makes you wish you have a car

The service gets especially bad after 7-8pm. The ridership is there but the frequency really ramps down

Regarding the n4 . Wish they had some RVC short turns like I believe the MTA used to have. Too bad they don’t have the yard there anymore

Yes, after 9pm the n6 is on 20 min headway and I’d always see Hempstead bound riders flagged after 179th st ( and sometimes at 179th st! Though, it was typically Francis Lewis & Hillside, Francis Lewis & Jamaica, and Springfield Blvd.) Being perpetually flagged at 20 min headway must be frustrating. I’d say they should probably run artics for those runs now that they have them.

Ah… the indignities one has to suffer through for a non-one-seat ride… missing the first cross-platform transfer by 3 seconds, then missing the second one (backup transfer point) by a minute, and then getting held for a train to cross ahead. Now I gotta walk two avenues across town.

Can’t blame people for holding on to their one-seat ride so strongly now…

    And sometimes holding doors.

Does the PANYNJ give discounts to NJT?

I just don't care for the Q86.... Rhetorical, but what rationale is there to connect residential Rosedale to Merrick Blvd?

Access to Rosedale LIRR from both sides of Sunrise, access to businesses on Merrick Blvd (east of Baisley Blvd), as well as network connectivity, (n4, Q111), etc.

This assumes that route would've ran out of JFK.... Even if it would have, Sutphin has no business being aligned to Hillside anyway.... There's a fine line between better utilizing resources within a network & going about constructing/assembling a network... Combining service along a significant enough a portion along Sutphin to a significant enough a portion along Hillside is a poor example of the latter.... Furthermore, you're never going to eliminate turnover anyway, so your point here is rather moot....

Oh, my point wasn’t about turnover, my point was that perhaps there wouldn’t be “reverse peak” deadheads passing people waiting for packed buses, possibly getting flagged, if the those buses would actually be in revenue service since they’d have to serve both corridors anyway.  (Though, merging isn’t necessary for that to be addressed.)

Hey at least they keeping the Q6 Limited and not merging it with the Q1

I mean is that a good thing? There's so much deadheading in opposite peak direction, it would have been better utilization of resources with overall better frequency, like how the subway lines through Manhattan run. Not too long ago I was on a PACKED Q6 to Jamaica in the PM, which was followed and preceded by deadheads.
