  1. So...are signs requestable again?

As of this point, yes, it is.

To remind people, I only do flipdot MegaMax signs (seen on almost all of the Nova RTS's, MTA Orion V & VII/V CNGs, early MCIs, and early New Flyers) and Luminator Horizon LEDs (seen on the MTA Bus MCIs, New Flyer artics, and Orion VII Original Generation). I don't do Luminator Titans (Nova LFSA, Orion VII NG/3G, new New Flyer C40LF, and new MCIs) or other type of sign like a Hanover LED/Flipdot.

  2. Jump the shark moment: introducing a female engine Emily and booting off one of the more popular engines, duck. All for political correctness, and who friggin cares about gender? They are machines! They can't have 'children'.

Anyway, the real decline was the switch from models to cgi. The storyline totally went to the shitter. Everyone has Alzheimer's or something in forgetting the lessons they learned from another episode, and too Thomas centric. If Thomas screwed up that many times he should be 'fired' long ago. They can still do a good story with good morals without watering it down for the pre k kids. Also as far as fing up the continuity, Henry's problem with regular coal was fixed after the flying kipper accident. He shouldn't need the special coal, another bullshit pc move to show some sort of handicap.

As for why I'm ranting, it's because in favor of greed and the need to make it safe for today's pc kids, they ruined a great show from our childhood. I'd have Ben perfectly satisfied if they ended the show way earlier before the decline, but blame the greed. It is a victim of its own success.

It's more the blame of the change in production. When the series took off in another direction in season five, it still followed the realistic routes the late Reverend Awdry laid out because Britt Allcroft controlled it and respected him. However, thanks to Thomas & the Magic Railroad tanking, Allcroft could no longer control the show, so it was sold to HiT Entertainment. That's where the direction really took off in the wrong direction. Instead of being adventure-esque with a look in the characters, the stories devolved the characters into one-shot, three-strikes morality that insulted Awdry's foundation.

Henry and its problem with the regular coal in the newer seasons was a major screw-up in its continuity. But as a major Edward fan, Edward Strikes Out was one of the most egregious pieces of writing I've seen in this series since HiT took over. It shouldn't have been in approved at all. Even James didn't act like that!

Strangely, the change from the models to CGI was one of the better things they did. Yes, the models are much more nostalgic, but the CGI allows a lot of things that the models and gauge layout couldn't do, such as having humans working instead of being stationary and allowing the engines to legitimately talk. Furthermore, it's much more cost-effective, allowing HiT and its CGI developers to build up the atmosphere digitally rather than spend a lot of money laying out the railroad, cameras, and models.

They got rid of Duck for Emily? No wonder I haven't seen Duck in a longtime...

When Emily was introduced in season seven, she was relegated to a secondary/tertiary role; Britt Allcroft was still producing the show. Despite getting less and less screentime since deviating away from Awdry's stories following season four, Duck was still somewhat secondary. When HiT acquired the rights for the series, it limited the cast drastically. They brought back plenty of the cast afterwards (including Duck), but many of the writers obviously don't pay attention to the series' past history and routes to lay out a good story while respecting the laws of the British railroading system.

  3. We're talking about watching Thomas the f**king tank engine?

    SMH...

*pokes you* I'm a major Thomas fan myself, and to a lot of people like myself, it was a huge portion of our childhoods. It's still really popular among fans young and old in the U.K.

Good, you don't want to see the newer season eps, they suck royally. It's like Barney and friends bad.

I'll say. The first six to seven seasons ranged from very good to decent. The seasons afterwards really dropped in quality when HiT Entertainment acquired the show's rights. The characterizations everyone had and realistic railway backgrounds were dropped in favor of repetitive, three-strikes, moral-centric storytelling to attract only extremely young kids rather than balancing the characterization, action, and adventure that attracted people young and old from the previous seasons. There are some successful post-season-seven stories, but most are just plain awful!

  4. I've got templates to help you out.

https://sites.google.com/site/midnightrts/home/luminator-fonts <--- This link shows what fonts you'll see in a typical MTA Bus sign. Sets 1-2 have the Luminator Horizon LED sign; Set 3 has the MegaMax flipdot sign.

https://sites.google.com/site/morninghybrid/luminator-signs <--- This link also has the MegaMax sign, but it also includes some of the letters and numbers found on the NICE buses (including the really thick characters).

  5. Rina-chan/MeleePrincess of the MLP:FIM/brony fandom is known for voicing the characters so well, whether it's main, secondary, or background. They are extremely accurate or quite close. (Her most well-known voicing is easily Twilight Sparkle.) Only a few can do it so well.

About two months ago, she began recording those voices on a new microphone and posted this video displaying her wide range. Here, she attempts to voice the characters and how close she can capture them in tone and personality. Have a listen to this great presentation! biggrin.png

  6. Over the past couple of months, I always plan to go to restaurants during the middle of the week instead of on Friday and Saturday. The reason is because during the middle of the week, just about every restaurant has delivered a fresh batch of ingredients while finishing or throwing out their previous ingredients. The food tends to arrive on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday depending on when the food is delivered. I can tell because the food tends to taste fresher whenever I order it.

  7. Bx7 doesn't need that musch service in Manhattan, though...

Probably not, but hey, this is mostly done out of pure fantasy, though.

Speaking of fantasy, a new idea I have is the B76:

    B76-1.png

This route combines the old B77, a portion of the Park Slope section of the B61, and a portion of the B23 into one route. In this idea, the B61 would be truncated back to the Ikea Terminal only, with the B67 extended to Flatbosh Avenue and Cortelyou Road to connect better with the B41 and B49.

  8. It's interesting how article comments blame Mangano, the Orion V's have always had break down issues, it just so happens that this time it happened crossing tracks.

They've had these issues, but the 2000 Orion V CNG's service has worsened considerably since NICE's takeover. I've heard the news surrounding NICE, read the articles, talked to passengers (and dispatchers), and listened to the buses' performance. They've all said the performance has been terrible. The 2000 Orion V CNGs are banged up and too old, and NICE is forced to operate them because they don't have any new buses to back them up.

The reason the people rightfully blame Mangano is because he ditched the MTA (which ran service okay in Nassau) for a private company (with a mixed reputation) that's been forced to run at a terrible budget. The budget is what you see in not only the service, but the performance of them, too, especially the elder Orion V's. If Mangano and the Nassau legislature helped out in giving NICE more revenue, then they can operate more buses, get plenty of new ones to retire some of the older fleet, expand service to neighborhoods that need them, improve bus performance, and maybe even advertise so people can ride the buses instead of just the LIRR, a car, or cab. There's been a severe trust issue between the passengers and both NICE and Mangano because service and the aforementioned budget have been deplorable.

  9. R44 CNG or IRT Bronx Express, I will not be available to make any Titans sign for the week or month because I'm trying to draw the Ulmer Park's local buses showing the sides (LFS, XD40, 3G), and I need to get ready for my 3 teeth to be pulled out for my braces and it's going to be a lot of pain...

    Thanks for understanding! :)

Echoing Threxx, I wish you the best of luck with your braces, too. I was forced to wear them for about twenty-two months, beginning in September 2007 and ending in July 2009. It's a bit difficult at first, but you start getting used to it. Good luck! :D

Meanwhile, I made a small revision in Threxx's requested flipdot. While reviewing it, I noticed that the "M" in the "M24" was twelve pixels high, when it should be eleven high. Therefore, I revised it.

    Here is the revised version:

  10. As the person responsible for creating this thread, I think it's time for me to get involved.

IRT, with all due respect, ThrexxBus didn't do anything wrong here, and he hasn't requested all THAT many signs. Prior to the one he requested to me, he only requested THREE signs, the previous one from a few days ago on the page before. He actually canceled one of them. After a few days, a reminder is completely okay here. I've had that happen to me before, and I've done that before. If it were repetitious or if he reminded us a couple of hours after he requested, then I can see people getting annoyed. But he posted the reminder after a few days. That's completely fine. I can understand feeling a tad agitated by a reminder, but I don't think it was warranted for this case.

To Threxx, I can understand you feeling a bit upset over IRT's response. You had every right to post that reminder. And I can understand feeling the anticipation, the excitement, over seeing all of us filling out the requests, whether it's yours or anyone else's. However, while you did nothing wrong, it is possible to be too eager and carry out too many requests too quickly, so be careful. :)

If you two wish to continue to talk about this little misunderstanding and resolve it, please do so via PM. Continuing it on here will merely clog up this thread, something nobody wants. Therefore, this will be my only public post regarding this. If anyone wishes to respond to my post or the posts before, please reply via PM; I will ignore any public responses on here.

Now, as a blanket reminder (and this is to everyone, myself including), please remember that at times, we may be fill in a request on a timely basis. We try, and often, we all succeed. But not all of us can guarantee it. We all lead really busy lives, and not all of us have the resources to fill them in. I can only do MegaMax flipdots and Horizon LEDs; I don't do Titans or Flipdot+'s, but others can. In addition, I don't accept THAT many requests in comparison to a few years ago when I first initiated the thread, but I definitely can occasionally.

To Threxx, I CAN do your request for the M49 and M50 as a normal flipdot like the M24 request I filled out earlier, but not a Flipdot+ because I don't fully have the tools to do it yet.

Right now, we continue on with our normal programming. :)

  11. Some more signs here! :D

I had these signs prepared, but I never got to import them into Photoshop to animate them. But now they're here! :D Check them out below!

Many of these are real signs by either observing them myself or via other people's media such as pics and clips on here, Subchat, YouTube, or Straphangers. With that, I give you credit for this. Others like the second N93 and N95 are based on fantasy.

  12. Jackie Gleason is one of the coolest...

    I agree on Spring Creek...

Jackie Gleason has always been one of the greatest depot decals. Clean in design and really speaks "Jackie Gleason" with the writing and composition.

Another one that I've always liked is the Mother Clara Hale Depot. It doesn't have a bus on it, but it doesn't need it. Mother Clara Hale caring for the child is all that it's needed to create the decal. The one I would change is either the green or the red because it makes the decal a bit busy, but in composition, it speaks a lot.

And a huge guilty pleasure despite a couple of issues:

    Westside.jpg

It was a much better decal than the 100th Street Depot decal when 100th Street was remodeled. The missing "W" in the compass followed by the older typeface makes me think of a company going forward and reminding people of the old times. It's a great typeface and doesn't resort to Peignot (found on the 100th Street and Fresh Pond decals) or Helvetica.

If I were the designer, two things I would work on are these:

    1. Better stroke separation between the compass and "s" in "Westside." Currently, the "s" blends in a little too much.

    2. Adjust the kerning between the "W" and "e." There's a big gap between the two letters, making it appear as "W estside Depot" instead of "Westside Depot."

  13. Speaking of the "least imaginative" decals, most of the decals from MTA Bus are incredibly samey in composition. The only ones that looks different are Spring Creek and Yonkers, but they each carry two separate issues. Spring Creek's is WAY too busy with the flowers, skyline, and flag in the background. Yonkers's fishbowl is too small; and the skyline on the top, Statue of Liberty, and flag look slapped on.

Yonkers's logo would look MUCH better if it were just the fishbowl and direction arrows to dictate where the main routes would go. It would look cleaner and not so busy. Spring Creek needs to scream "Spring Creek" while keeping it clean and not to cramped.

My most favorite MTA decals come out from Brooklyn:

    Jackie_Gleason.png

    Fresh_Pond.png

  14. Speaking of depot decals, Flatbush desperately needs an overhaul. It's just a yellow logo (with type around the edges) and the front of an RTS. It doesn't speak "Flatbush" one minute. Maybe a bus like an Orion VII NG or an RTS riding on top of a bush with a flat top will do.

BTW, has anyone beside me ever noticed that the Quill and Tuskegee depot decals are different size in comparison to the others? Quill's is bigger than the designated size, and Tuskegee's is smaller.

  15. He really wants to kill off the 20......

Killing off the M20 would be a terrible idea. While that route doesn't run well, it's the only one to serve Battery Park City and South Ferry via Tribeca and West Village. It's a lifeline for the West Side riders, and the MTA can't afford any more anguish from them now.
