  1. Thought I'd jump into this thread.

I have been told from an excellent source that our speculations are true: R62As are coming to the 6 train. In the future, approximately three sets of R142As will be removed from the 6 and replaced with R62A cars from the 7 train. At the moment, no more than three sets can be confirmed in a switch.

I was also told something that may raise a few eyebrows:

A slight problem in the conversion has arisen, I've been told. A set of R142As has been outfitted with CBTC: the set, however, is performing quite badly. Teething problems, yes, but the test phase is being increased to understand what's going on. This has raised qualms amongst TSSes regarding the new R188s as pure retrofit cars, and has delayed the process. Purely what I've been told, again.

Hope this will help understand some of what's going on in the way of equipment changes in the future.

    Where is that set testing?

  2. WTF!!! R36WF at Marcy ave????FTW!!!.The chick in the third Marcy pic is thick!!! Look at the T/O staring.LOL

Yeah, yo! I'm looking like dang, who that!? It's not to often I'm feeling somebody in an old pic. BTW 71st Avenue (EE) pretty much looks the same. It's just brighter now.

  3. Nice. the 8th ave (K) train will be rememberd.....

But let's put our minds on the Idea of "the Kalila Ave line" K/P train. much more AWESOME! nice friendly and cute female populated riders , a Elevation of beautiful lilac purple skies by day and dark purple skies by night or when it's cloudy. a diverse fleet of R32s , R44s , R68s , R68As , R160As and R160B alstom and siemens the K/P are the whole package people.

:o I don't even know how to respond to that.

  4. The M7s have the same trucks as the M7-As with a tiny adjustment on the Third Rail shoe and voltage.

Yeah, I see that the shoe is mounted by way of the axles, which I think looks cooler. You can see the axles spinning on an A since the shoe is mounted to the truck itself, though.

  5. I forgot to answer this question earlier.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation owns all (I think) of the R.O.W. that Metro-North uses right up to the New York state line. While mainline operation costs are shared 65% CDOT and 35% Metro-North, operation costs for the three branches are covered solely by CDOT. Our former Governor, John Rowland, was a Robert Moses of sorts, someone who cared little for mass transportation and the state budgets that were submitted during his tenure of 1995-2004 will support that statement. It's interesting to note that the last new order of New Haven Line railcars were delivered during 1993-94, the years before he assumed the gubernatorial position. The current governor, Jodi Rell, who unfortunately will not be running as the incumbent in the next election, has been a great proponent of mass transportation, supporting the purchase of the M-8's, an upgraded operating system (new ties were recently installed on most of the Wtby branch, and some of NH Mainline, and the catenary system continues to receive a huge overhaul and replacement), additional parking for commuters and improved safety and accessibility at stations. John Rowland was too busy using those funds to pay the contractors at his house. :P

Hope that explains a few things.

    LOL

  6. I'd like to see M8s on the LIRR, how come Metro-North gets all the diversity lol.

LIRR only has 3rd rail electrification or none at all. Metro north has 3rd rail and catenary overhead electrification or, none at all.

  7. I want to say that I read something from the Connecticut Commuter Rail Council stating that initial testing can take approximately three months, and basically consists of running the railcars at all speeds in all directions at all locations in all conditions, basically to test the limits of the new equipment. I would imagine that once the initial delivery is pushed hard and no issues have be noted, the subsequently-ordered railcars won't require as rigorous of a testing period, though I'm not certain about that. Please remember that these are the first new cars on the New Haven line in 15 years, and are a radical departure from the current rolling stock, so testing the first batch delivered is crucial.

I'm interested to see how the updated catenary system holds up.

On a somewhat-related note, does anyone know if ATC cab signalling identical to the M2/4/6's is being used?

    That's what I think, too.
