  1. So you're justifying keeping a route because it's faster than the alternative.  That would be great argument if people actually rode that bus.

     

    The X29 and X90, two rush hour only buses that were faster than their alternative subway lines, had better weekday ridership levels than the BxM4 yet they got cut.

    Weekend ridership: 240 (This is COMBINED saturday + sunday)

     

    On the weekends, an average BxM4 bus has 3.5 passengers.

     

    There are so many rush hour only express buses that have so much more ridership than the BxM4.

     

    In terms of average riders per bus, the BxM4 ranks last for both weekdays and weekends.  Besides for Woodlawn, the rest of the route directly above the subway.

If the MTA took over the route, they would have to run it for the same hours every day regardless of the sabbath or else it would be as if the MTA is appealing to a specific religious group, and there would definitely be some people somewhere getting offended and saying that it's discriminatory to non Jews.  Those empty bus runs would then turn into a net loss for the MTA, which in turn would cut certain runs throughout to save money, which would result in protest throughout the communities the bus serves and then they'd start their own bus service up again or boycott it.

  4. Due to an over-usage of power in Brooklyn, the (2)(3)(4) and (5) trains east/south of Franklin Avenue cannot run at all due to all those tracks not having power. Also the switches from Franklin to Nevins are in straight.

  5. Next, a bunch of terrorist is claming that they will blow up stations from 72 St to 14 St on every line, reroute every train in this situation.

     

     

    If you're taking the threat seriously:

     

    - Suspend the entire subway

    - Evacuate the area

  6. next, due to a derailed <A> train between W4th St and 14th st, stations from W4th to 14th st are closed, also due to another derailed (A) train, stations are closed between 14th St and 50th St. Reroute (A)(C)(E) trains. (Note, this is long term so the MTA can fix the Street and the Tracks because both (A) trains are exposed on to the street.)

     

     

    (A) runs via 6th Avenue local, and local in Manhattan

    (B) trains run between Brighton Beach and Whitehall Street (R) ONLY. (They do this with (D) trains during certain overnight GO's, so this isn't too far out of the ordinary. Better than suspending it, and shouldn't cause any delays)

    (C) runs between Chambers Street and Euclid

    (E) runs via 6th Avenue local

     

    (M) runs to Broad Street

     

    ---

    (E) runs slightly reduced service as to provide minimal delays with the (A)(F).

     

    Summary:

    6th Avenue express: (D)

    6th Avenue local: (A)(E)(F)

    CPW express: (D)

    CPW local: (A)

  7. Ok I forgot buses can't use it northbound between 42nd and 63rd. 63rd and 53rd buses can't use it northbound. Or are you talking about southbound?

     

    Are you saying between 63rd and 53rd street buses CAN'T use FDR southbound? I am talking about southbound so confirm kay.

     

     

    Buses and trucks are banned from the FDR between 20th Street and 125th Street, although the QM buses almost always illegally use up to 34th Street despite the 8000lb limit and no trucks signs. The reason is that the lanes are so narrow and there's many turns that are too sharp for a bus to be able to stay in one lane.

     

    Buses fulfill the height restrictions with the exception of northbound 53rd-61st, but they are banned from using the FDR between 125th and 20th.

  8. true but there is a low very low one at 61st southbound that can only be avoided by the 63rd street entrance to the FDR southbound.

     

    Northbound 42nd to 63rd I think but since you live there you can confirm.

     

    Possibility for express service along that corridor improving.

     

     

    No, trucks and buses are not allowed because the lanes are extremely narrow and there are tight curves that would require a bus to take up more than one lane. That would be an extreme safety issue and there's no way that the MTA will restore any express service up north.

     

    As a driver, I find it really annoying when a full sized school bus is illegally driving down, and has to use two lanes between 63rd and 53rd in the tunnel like structure.

  9. My extremism in general was always a weakness of mine. I did learn that buses can physically use FDR southbound all the way until 71st street exit to avoid that low clearance then get back on via 63rd. Northbound after re looking it over till 63rd between 42nd and 63 buses can't fit. Does 42nd have a bus lane?

     

     

    What does this have to do with anything?

     

    And southbound I'm pretty sure buses can physically fit the entire way. Clearance is 11'8" by 90th Street.

  10. Q63 CO-op city to green acres via clearview with stops at northern blvd and supplements Q50 LTD but reverse direction then hillside and via 212 st to hempstead ave then cross island one exit to linden blvd then via hook creek blvd to green acres.

     

     

    So let me get this straight, you want a route that will connect Co-Op city with the middle of nowhere in Queens/Nassau county, that runs on the highway for most of the time and makes stops at random exits?

  11. A crosstown subway route? Is that really what your solution is? Why not replace every single bus route in the city with a subway line while we're at it. More subway routes are beyond fantasy; there's no way that any more routes can possibly be built with the way the MTA is going now.

     

    Just look at how long it's taking the MTA to build 3 measly stops along 2nd Avenue. It's pathetic.

    due to a switch failure that determines wheither you go to the bridge or the tunnel has failed at all the following places atlantic ave barclays (D)(N)(R) and the (B) AND (Q) dekalb is also affected trains are routed on the bridge BUT They are routed via 6th ave..

    So all Manhattan bound (B)(D)(N)(Q)(R) trains would be forced to go across the bridge and up 6th Avenue?

    (N) runs in 2 sections: Astoria to Whitehall - Barclays to Coney Island

    (Q) runs between Astoria and Whitehall via local

    (R) runs via 63rd Street, 6th Ave express, bridge, stops at DeKalb

    You just said that the switch right outside Pacific wasn't affected, so (N) trains will switch there and run via the (R) through Lower Manhattan

     

    Is the switch north of Atlantic Av (B)(Q) affected? If not then the (Q) can run via Lower Manhattan. If the switch is affected, then Brooklyn bound (Q) trains will terminate at 34th Street.

  15. Has to specifically do with the way the track switches are set up. The Midtown and Downtown track maps show this.

     

    Coming out of Penn Station, there are switches on the downtown express track that would in this scenario allow the (E) to access the uptown express track, allowing the (E) to run wrong-railed to Canal Street and use either track on the uptown platform to terminate since the switches are NORTH of Canal on the uptown side as opposed to SOUTH of Canal as they are on the downtown side.

     

    The key to this is Chambers Street having no power. Since that is the case, I would think that it would make it impossible to switch south of Canal, which is why I do it the way I do.

     

     

    Yes, I'm well aware that the switches do in fact exist, but that doesn't mean that you have to send something down there, especially when there's already uptown (A) trains heading up from before the incident occurred.

     

    There are perfectly good and working switches right south of Canal. The problem says that "there will be no power at Chambers Street-WTC" only; nothing about any switches not working.

     

    Logic is your friend. Don't defy it just for the sake of defying it.

  16. (E) operates normally to 34th Street, stopping on the express track at 42nd and 34th Street, then operates to Canal Street via the uptown express track. Returning to Queens, the (E) operates normal service between Canal Street and Jamaica Center ( (E) trains stop at Spring and 23rd Streets in the uptown direction ONLY, (A) trains will stop at 23rd Street going downtown).

     

     

    Downtown (E) trains run via the uptown express track? What's wrong with the downtown express track, or for that matter what's wrong with the downtown local track?

     

    This is beyond retarded.

    Because of construction along 4th Avenue and West End, all switches are unusable between 25th Street and 59th Street, and on the West End line to 62nd Street.

     

    Reroute trains.

     

     

    (D) runs via the (N) between 36th St and Coney Island

    (D) shuttle runs between 62 st and Coney Island (runs express between Bay Pkwy and 62 St northbound)

  18. Due to a strange blizzard, both branches of the WPR are impassible north of 180th. Same with the (6) Manhattan-bound local between Zegera and Castle Hill Avenue.

     

    (2)(5) terminate at 180th Street

    Manhattan bound (6) runs express between Pelham Bay Park and Parkchester

  19. it is my fault made a mistake. I meant to say the switches at hammels wye are jammed to rockaway park to where trains coming from far rockaway can only run up and down the Rockways(Far Rockaway to Rockaway park) reroute away

     

     

    (A) trains terminate at Broad Channel

    (S) suspended

     

    Take the Q22 to the Q52/Q53 and transfer for an (A) at Broad Channel.

     

    Switches jamming seem like an unexpected emergency, so shuttle buses can't magically appear out of nothing.

    The Lexington Avenue line is closed between 14th Street and 96th Street. The LOWER level of 86 Street may be used to relay trains. Reroute service.

     

     

    (4) runs in 2 sections: the Bronx to 86th Street - Brooklyn Bridge to Brooklyn

    (5) runs via the (2)

    (6) runs between the Bronx and 86th Street via Lexington Av express

  21. Another hard problem - and it's hurricane related again.

    Hurricane Valerie which was a Category 1 had the power to destroy parts of Brooklyn Bridge - City Hall complex, the whole BMT Archer Avenue line, and the BMT Jamaica Line to Broadway Junction.

     

     

    (4) runs in 2 sections: The Bronx to Grand Central via Lex local - Bowling Green to Utica Av

    (5) runs between Dyre Av and E 180th St

    (6) runs between the Bronx and Grand Central

     

    (E) runs to Jamaica-Van Wyck

     

    (J) runs between Essex St and Chauney St

    (Z) suspended

  22. Guys, right now the plan is to finish Phase I and then stop. Back in 2007 when they started, their original expected completion date was end of 2012, and now it's pushed back to 2018 and probably won't be done until 2020. There is no money, nor is there any intention of completing any of the other phases right now.

     

    Also, much to my surprise, construction on Second Avenue was up and running yesterday, so the hurricane doesn't appear to have affected it.
