  1. Next: Due to long-term construction the CPW express tracks are not usable. (This applies from 125th St, to just after the first local/express switch north of 59th)

At the same time, due to budget costs, the southbound local (C)(E) track is disconnected, from Canal Street, to just after the 8th Ave/6th Ave connecter @West 4th.

Make a LONG-TERM plan for the above.

And while the above is occurring, work is being done at 14th St, and 34th St, so the southbound local (C)(E) track is not usable at those stops ONLY.

Southbound (A) trains must also bypass 14th, and 34th Sts.

Make a SHORT-TERM plan for the above.

    (A)(D) via CPW local

    (C) suspended

    (E) downtown via 8th Avenue express

  2. (N)(Q) trains run to 71 Avenue via 63 street/Bdwy Express NB and 60 street/Broadway Local via Whitehall SB

    (R) Alternative trains terminate at Atlantic Avenue- Pacific Street via 4 Avenue Local

    (B) Run on 4 Avenue to Bay Ridge-95 street via 4 Avenue Express

    (D) Rerouted to use Brighton Line

    (N) Alternative trains run via West End (frequencies will double on both lines)

Maybe I didn't phrase it correctly, but the simple solution I was looking for was just (N)(Q) via Broadway local and via the tunnel...

  3. NEXT: TRANSIT STRIKE! Operators at CI-Avenue X yard refuse to work. You can send peeps from other yard to work the trains at CI-Avenue X but you can not have IRT workers on BMT/IND and vice-versa.

I have absolutely no idea whatsoever at all about what this means. Just run all trains at reduced headways using as many available employees there are.

    NEXT

All switches along the Broadway line between Canal and 57th (including the crossover north of it) are set to the STRAIGHT position and cannot be changed. This means that trains going up Broadway via the bridge must go to 63rd Street, and no switches along Broadway may be used to terminate trains. Reroute the (N)(Q).

  4. Next:

All northbound switches at 149th Street are set in favor of White Plains, and all southbound switches are set in favor of Lexington Avenue. Reroute the (2), (4), and (5).

Do not put all three on the Lex express, this is over 40 TPH and will cause insane delays. It's not possible, no matter what it may seem.

A few months back I rode a (2) from 86th to Brooklyn Bridge and it was one of the fastest rides downtown ever.

  5. Which is pretty much exactly what I put. Notice I said pretty much, not completely.

    NEXT

Due to power problems, both 53 St and 63 St are unusable.

A bit vague; I'll assume that you only mean the tunnels underneath the East River.

    (E) runs between Ely Av and Jamaica Center

    (F) runs in 2 sections: Jamaica to 21 St-Queensbridge and 57 St to Coney Island (I'm not running any via the (G) because at a time like this, the last thing you need is delays due to excessive merging)

    (M) runs to Broad Street

(I guarantee that Wally will send M trains to 168th... just wait)

  6.

I know I get flak for sending the C to the Eastern Division on these, but I find it does allow Fulton line passengers coming from Manhattan to keep their one-seat ride if going to Broadway Junction and helps reduce overcrowding on the L, shuttle buses and other lines that would affected by such situations.

Let me explain to you why this isn't a feasible solution.

    1. (C) has to merge with the (F)(M), which brings it close to, if not over, 30tph

    2. (C) and (M) have to merge with (J)(Z), which is just under 30tph or so

All of this unecessary merges will without a doubt causes delays. ONLY THE A/C/F lines are affected. Your solution delays the (A)(C)(E)(F)(M)(J)(Z), and possibly the (B)(D).

Well I guess that means that (B)(Q) have to run 4 Av Express?

Have a closer look at the Track Map.

"The (D) and (N) tracks are set to the Brighton line."

That makes no sense because those tracks don't connect. That's like saying that the 60th Street tunnel tracks are set for 6th Avenue; there isn't any connection.

  7. (B)(D)(N)(Q) all via Brighton?

You said that the (D)(N)must use Brighton...

In that case, (D) via express, (N) via local. (Q) runs via the normal (N) route in Brooklyn and (B) runs via the normal (D) route in Brooklyn.

Your "scenario" makes no sense whatsoever.

  8. How on Earth is this a solution?

I am pretty sure it was you who said something about the switches on the CPW Local being in favor of the Concourse, the Express to UWS.

How to solve it? Use your brain.

You solved it yourself already. (D)(N) run via Brighton.

  9. I didn't want any trains going into 2 Av, but fine, I'll give it to you today.

    NEXT

Due to switch problems, Coney Island bound (D) and (N) trains are forced to run on the Brighton Line. Again, because of an incident on 8 Av, southbound select (A)(C)(E) trains are terminating at 2 Av.

You're supposed to give a scenario about which stations are closed. You provided a solution; what am I supposed to respond with to this?

  10. Next:

Due to an unforeseeable situation, trains can run through the Coney Island station (and stop there as normal), but CAN NOT use it as a terminal. This affects the (D)(F)(N)(Q).

Running trains through Coney Island would cause a lot of delays due to the track layout. It's designed as a terminal, not a thru station.

    (D) terminates at Bay 50th Street

(F)(Q) terminates at West 8th Street

    (N) terminates at 86th Street

  11. Do you really think people are that stupid? The idea of the (C) to Broadway Junction (J) platform in that scenario is so passengers going east of there on the (A) / (C) (plus some going to Ralph, Rockaway or even Utica Avenue) are NOT overcrowding shuttle buses at High Street in Brooklyn. It keeps shuttle buses for the main purpose, to transport people in Brooklyn between High Street and Utica Avenue without all the extra passengers. As long as the (C) is R-32s (and eight cars), it CAN run on the (J) and in that scenario I take full advantage of that.

It all goes back to what people are supposed to do when riding the subway, and that is paying attention. Doing that would do a lot when emergencies and other things happen, as I try to keep the subways running in as efficient a manner as possible.

  12. NEXT!

7th Avenue is impassable between south of 96th Street and South Ferry/Atlantic Avenue. Treat this service change as a fasttrack, as it is long term.

Treat it as a FASTRACK, as in late night closure only?

    (1) runs between the Bronx and 96th Street: running express between 137th and 96th Street downtown

    (2) runs between the Bronx and 96th Street

    (3) runs between the Bronx and 96th Street

    (5) operates late night between the Bronx and Flatbush via Lexington Avenue express

  13. The Whole IRT New Lots Line will be closed for rehabilitation works. Reroute the (2)(3)(4)(5) .

    Duration: 10 years

PLEASE BE SPECIFIC AND SAY WHICH STATIONS ARE AFFECTED. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU MEAN BY "IRT New Lots Line"

I'll assume that you mean the (3)(4) after Franklin

    (2) unaffected

    (3) runs to Flatbush Av at all times except late night, when it runs its usual late night pattern

    (4) runs to Flatbush Av and replaces the (5) at all times

    (5) runs to between the Bronx and Bowling Green at all times besides late night when it runs its usual late night pattern

    (3) trains run at reduced service as to not overload Flatbush Av. In addition, some (4) trains may terminate at Bowling Green.

  14. The (L) line had a complete structural failure between 3rd and 8th avenues.

Create a long term soloution, because 14th street is impassable

    - (L) runs between Bedford Av and Canarsie

    - A single track shuttle runs between 1st Avenue and Bedford Av.

    - Increased M14 service

  15. My plan calls for the (J) to replace the (C)on 8th Avenue at all times, since Essex is not really a suitable terminal nor is anywhere else before 168th, especially for a long-term detour such as this. For this, all available R32s and 42s could be transferred to the (J) while the (C) gets other cars from other lines for a Chambers-Euclid run (and remember, you would need fewer (C) trains because of the shorter route there). When such service interruption is over, such cars borrowed from the (C) for an extended (J) service can run to 168th and then simply go back to being in (C) service.

The reverse-peak skip-stop in Brooklyn and Queens can be dropped, I only stuck it in there because of the extended route of the (J) in this case.

    No. Just stop it.

  16. I love the What-If thread, so I am gonna make another problem.

    Year: 2020

Bowling Green station will be closed for retrofitting it with full-height platform screen doors and installing escalators to the platforms.

    Reroute the (4)(5)(6)<6> .

Note: Bowling Green in my scenario is now a hub for the Lexington Avenue Line trains.

If your crazy fantasy can handle all those trains, then the (4)(5)(6)<6> can all terminate at Brooklyn Bridge. Have the (2)(3)(9) and whatever else you want handle Brooklyn with a transfer at Fulton.

I'm not really enjoying these future scenarios, mainly because it's really unclear on what the service patterns and what the track configurations are.

  17. Your still overloading the local track by running 4 train lines on it. The only solution is to reduce service on Queens Blvd. by one line.

    ok, here is my scenario:

The express AND local tracks along Central Park West from 59th St. to 125 St. are impassable due to a loss of power.

    (A) runs in 2 sections:

    1. 207th to 125th via local, skips 135th street downtown

    2. 34th Street Penn Station to Rockaways/Lefferts

    (B) runs between 42nd Street and Brighton Beach

    (C) runs between 34th Street and Euclid Av, via express in Manhattan

    (D) runs in 2 sections:

    1. 205th to 125th via local, skips 135th downtown

    2. 42nd Street to Coney Island

  18. Too many TPH on one track.

NEXT: Manhattan bound (E)(F) express track at 65 St is impassible. Rules: don't overload the QBL local tracks, and Manhattan below 42 St must be served with the same number of TPH as usual.

    (E)(F) via local.

Some Queensbound (E) terminate at Queens Plaza, some Queensbound (F) terminate at 21 St Queensbridge.

Better to have some delays than to force people to make extra transfers are have extreme overcrowding at those stations.

  19. ...

    NEXT:

All switches between 125th Street and 145th Street (A)(B)(C)(D) are set to the STRAIGHT position. This means that any train that enters 125th Street must go to 145th Street top level on the same track they started on, and vice versa going the other way.

  20. Good solution.

    (7) : Two sections; Manhattan-bound trains change to the express track before 61st Street, they skip 52nd, 46th, 40th, and 33rd. Then they turn around. Trains run TSQ to Hunters Point Ave. Shuttle train runs from 33rd Street to 45th Rd.

    (E) : Uptown train run 6th Avenue local and run via 63rd.

    (G) : Limited service from Bedford-Nostrand to Court Square, half (G) trains terminate at Bedford-Nostrand.

    (M) trains run via 8th Avenue to 23 St.

    What.
