  1. That is impossible. I'm sorry, but 40 TPH on one track? No.

(E): Some trains via 63rd Street, some via 60th Street to Whitehall St. This cannot be avoided.

    (M): Via 63rd Street.

Please, there's no need to bring delays to the (N)(Q)(R) as well.

I do believe that (2)(4)(5) during the height of rush hours exceeds 40tph but whenever 7th Avenue gets messed up they send those three lines down Lex and I have never noticed any substantial delays. I assume that this scenario is a freak accident that happened, and you have to scramble. If this was a planned that those switches would be set like that then sending the (M) line to Broad would be a no brainer, but there's already a bunch of trains out carrying thousands of people to work in Manhattan and you gotta do what you gotta do.

Would it really be more efficient to have a thousand people from each train pour out into a station to switch trains?

  2. NEXT: All switches west of 36th Street are set in favor of 60th and 63rd Street on the Queens Blvd line.

Reroute the (E), (F), (M), (R), and others as necessary. (That phrase doesn't give you licence to confuse riders.)

    (E) runs via 6th Av local, 63rd Street

    (M) runs via 63rd Street

    Please expect delays.

It's most important to get people where they need to go without confusing them and forcing them to make multiple transfers, which would make their commute take longer than with delays.

  3. OOPS!!

    Add to what I wrote:

    (3) suspended

    (1) and (2) run in two sections:

    (1) replaces the (3) in Brooklyn and runs New Lots Avenue-34th Street Penn Station

    (1) also runs 96th Street-242nd Street

    (2) runs Flatbush Avenue-34th Street Penn Station and 96th Street-241st in the Bronx

Shuttle buses operate between 33rd Street Penn Station and 96th Street. Select M104 buses also operate to/from 33rd Street-Penn Station instead of 42nd Street-1st Avenue.

LIMITED Shuttle train service operates in both directions on the (1) between 50th and 96th Streets on Broadway.

How about no. Just the typical: confusing the hell out of people trying to get to Brooklyn as well as leaving South Ferry without service. Also screwing up the M104 bus.

    Well... at least you're consistent.

  4. Next one...

A (B) train derails in homeball alley (between 135 & 145 if you don't know where at) rendering that whole area impassible. What do you do?

    (A) runs between 207th and 168th and between Columbus Circle and Rockaway/Lefferts

    (B) runs between Bedford and Yankee Stadium and between 125th St and Brooklyn

    (C) runs between 125th and Euclid

    (D) runs between 205th and Yankee Stadium and between 59th and Coney Island

Any (A)(D) north of 59th terminate at 125th.

  5. NEXT: There is a switch problem on the 7th Avenue Line where all uptown and downtown express trains are routed via the layover track between TSQ and 34th Street-Penn. One downtown train cannot run with one uptown train. Avoid a head-on collision and don't go over 30 tph.

The (2) has around 7-8 TPH and the (3) has around 13-15.

Uptown (2) trains run via the (5) between Brooklyn and the Bronx

Uptown (3) trains run via local between 14th Street and 72nd Street

Downtown (2)(3) run normal service via the layover track between 42nd and 34th

(If anything screws up on 7th Avenue, the MTA always runs the (2) via the (5), even during rush hour and there's never any extra delays)

  6. Next:

The switches between 71st Av and 75 Av are stuck in the straight position and cannot be changed. Basically, if a train enters 71st Av, it must continue to 75 Av on the same track it was on. This means that (R)(M) trains cannot terminate properly, and (F) trains cannot merge onto the local track.

  7. The stations are fine, the switches are impassible.

    Still confused.

So basically trains cannot go from the Lexington Av line to the (2)(5) line? Or are the switches between 149th Street and 3rd Av not working? And not working, or trains physically cannot pass by on the tracks they're connected to? Same with Atlantic Av, are the switches unable to be used, or are trains physically unable to pass by on the tracks they're connected to?

Here's another scenario for anyone else waiting:

Due to 12-9, only the Coney Island bound track at Kings Highway (N) is unusable. All other tracks are unaffected.

  8. Here's what I'd do:

    (R) runs in two sections:

    71 Av - Whitehall St

    95 St - Court St

    (4) runs local between 14 St-Union Square and Brooklyn Bridge to provide a transfer at Canal St

Your idea to suspend the majority of the (R) line isn't good because not only is there nowhere to put those unused trains, but you've also screwed up Manhattan and Queens riders needlessly.

There is absolutely no need to screw up the (4)(5)(6) line. The (4)(6) combined tph is well over 30, and any unnecessary switching delays the trains even more. Leave it running express and have riders transfer at Union Square, and for the few riders that board south of there and are getting off Downtown, they'll just have to deal with transferring to the (6) and then the (4)(5).

  9. There's something else there besides the (N)(Q)(R): the (D). You'll see it on the track map.

It's a mess over there so I might be missing something, but from what i see the (D) only shares track with the (N) and never the (Q)(R), however the (B) merges with the (Q)(R) to stop at DeKalb. It would cause small delays because of timing, but it's not impossible. And surely a few minutes of delays are better than forcing riders to make unnecessary transfers.

  10. The catch is that the rush hour (N)(Q)(R) can't all run on the bridge for a particular reason, which I think you'll be able to figure out from looking at the track map.

    :)

The can run fine through the 60th Street tunnel, so they can run through the bridge.

  11. NEXT

Due to separate incidents, the West End from 9 Av to Coney Island is unusable, the Sea Beach from 8 Av to Coney Island is unusable, and the Brighton from Parkside Av to Coney Island is unusable. The switches at Prospect Park (B)(Q)(S) are usuable, and the Culver (F)(G) is also usuable.

    (B)(Q) terminate at Prospect Park

    (D) terminates at 9 Av

    (N) terminates at 59 St (Brooklyn)

No, and I'm not sending the (B) or (D) down Culver because that would completely delay the (F)(M) as well. If those timings get off then it will cause delays on the (E)(R), which in turn would delay the (A)(C)(N)(Q).

  12. Rush Hour: an M60 crashes into a support on the Astoria Line, leaving it unusable and as a precaution, trains cannot use Queensboro Plaza. Meanwhile, a terrorist threat in long island city means that the (E)(M)(G)(7) cannot use the respective stops south of queens plaza and north of the queens-brooklyn border. Reroute away.

    (7) runs between 33rd Street and Flushing

    (E) runs via 63rd Street and 6th Av. Trains on 8th Av terminate at 53rd/Lex

    (M) runs to Broad Street. Any trains on 6th Av or Queens run via 63rd Street to their terminal and terminate

    (G) runs to Nassau Av

(N)(Q) run between 59th/Lex and Coney Island

    (R) runs via 63rd Street

    Expect delays on (E)(F)(R) trains.

  13. Agreed.

    NOW FOAMERS GET OUTCHA CAMERAS

    (B) Re-routed Via Mountage, Broadway Express, 63rd St, QBL Express to Jamacia-179th St

    (F) Re-Routed via CPW Local, and depending on the time, Concourse.

    (Q) Re-Routed Via Mountage

    Stop. Just stop.

  14. No, you can run them on the Broadway Line, and change the signs to (Q) at the terminals if need be. I guess maybe the most logical thing would just be to run the (B) between the Bronx and 2 Av, and lay up the (B) trains in Brooklyn along the express tracks.

    This is an unnecessary reroute.

Wow, I don't know what I was thinking; I forgot about the tunnel.

  15. NEXT: the Manhattan bound track connecting the Brighton Line to the Manhattan Bridge between Atlantic Av and DeKalb Av is unusable. You have to account for all trains, and you can't cut the (B) to one borough only.

B trains can't be cut to only one borough then? Well then expect delays on (B)(D)(F)(M) because there's no other logical way.

    (B) runs between the Bronx and 2nd Av.

Manhattan bound (Q) runs between Coney Island and 59th St (Brooklyn) via the (N), between 59th St and Dekalb via the (R) and then regular route over the bridge. Any Manhattan bound (Q) trains running on Brighton terminate at Prospect Park

  16. 1. Only 3 scenarios can be posted within a 24 hour period. That's more than enough, and it prevents people from spamming scenarios for a high post count.

There's people who care about high post count? I honestly don't even know what my post count is.

And really, we should just have someone post a scenario, then another person solves it and posts their own if they want to. Turning this thread into a discussion sort of ruined it and I'm not really enjoying this thread any more.

  17. Total: 0. If you just ran the (B) to Whitehall St, you'd actually have a great solution; maybe better than mine.

    (B) to Whitehall would be awful. Not only is it confusing but it causes switching which could delay the (R)(Q). The (B), which only has about 7-8tph, to Prospect works perfectly and wouldn't really get in the way of (Q) trains that much. If need be, terminate (B) trains on the Brooklyn bound local side; it crosses over the opposing tracks but takes less than a minute and causes no delays.

  18. The west side hwy is not slow enough to warrent a HOV bus lane. The M37 will be a LTD like manhattan's version of B103. Bxm18 via west side is a compromise to speed it up without forfeiting the midtown stops so it won't anger via 8 at all plus the stops can be on the piers. I admit I never made anything detailed reguarding MTA lines cause it indirectly has to do with NJT and NICE. I left out info that backs many of em so ppl like brett and joel up front got severly mislead.

I have no idea what you just said. Please take the time to write out your posts in English.

Again, I say what is this M37 plan you have? Where does it run to? What streets will it use?

  19. You have to experience it for yourself you will be shocked how many ppl take cabs on it. But then again M37 may cut into their revenue stream lol. M20 again is shunned. West side hwy has many piers that would generate ridership. Most buses inmanhattan that do very well do not fully duplicate the subway except for M18& some former routes. Besides most ppl I spoke with at those piers also wondered why there is no bus. If you can hail a cab you can wait for a bus. Those DH runs that turn to X1 using west side hwy should be converted into X31 reverse trips. Bxm 18 may reach downtown faster if routed over bxm2's route till 72nd (1)(2)(3) then goes down west side hwy.

Absolutely false. People take cabs because they want to go somewhere fast, without having to deal with the crappy public transportation network we have. And people who are taking cabs on the West Side Highway do it because they're going 40-50mph with only a few red lights, whereas a bus would be doing 25-35mph and stopping every few blocks.

If I'm on 90th and York and want to get to 72nd and York, I hop in a cab; I don't wait for the slow and unreliable M31.

And regarding the BxM18, it would be much faster if it went via FDR Drive and 1st/2nd Avenues, but it also serves Midtown via 5th/Madison Avs, and you don't want to upset you-know-who.

Also, where would a bus stop on the West Side Highway going downtown? You certainly can't block a lane of traffic, and there's no room to build a shoulder because the bike path is right there and the park is right next to there. There's also bus routes every 10 or so blocks that connect to the subway: M8, M14, M23, M34, M42, M50.

Also, you said something about a long and detailed plan for an M37? I don't even know what the basic idea of your M37 is (unless I somehow skipped over it), but could you post or message me it? If it really is a thorough and detailed plan then I'd love to read it.

  20. I was just using the <R> designation so people would know the route, the trains wouldn't be in service...

What the heck is the <R>? That's a route from the 90s, and this is 2012.

That's like if something happened and (F) trains needed to terminate at 2nd Avenue, you wouldn't make them (V) trains even though that doesn't exist, right?

  21. Did you read, I said clearly, NORTHBOUND. Downtown (2) runs 7 Av Express. Downtown (4) runs Lexington Av Express. Downtown (5) Lexington Av Express to Bowling Green/Flatbush Av. Where is the problem there?

The uptown (2)(4)(5)(6) would still share one track between Bowling Green and Brooklyn Bridge. Track Map

    Anyways, here's a new scenario:

    The following are unusable

    - Entire Bowery (J)(Z) station

    - Middle track Essex St (J)(M)(Z)

    - UPTOWN express track at West 4th Street (B)(D)(F)(M)
