  1. Do I see foam? You know that Westinghouse just like Budd doesn't build railcars anymore, do you?
  2. Wow! Nice catch m8 Thanks, Charlie rocks!
  3. Good seating arrangement is good there now. LIRR is the only commuter railroad I know (besides SEPTA) to have 3+2 arrangement, especially compared to Europe where nothing is 3+2 on commuter railroads. "Additionally, less seating and more standing room would increase capacity on any given train and reduce overcrowding." If you're travelling a short distance, alright. But let's say you get in in Ronkonkoma in rush hour and you need to go to Penn. Rnkkm is crowded in rush hour and with less seats, you may not find a seat. So that means you would be standing the whole time. I bet you can't barely walk when you exit at Penn. And that is only 1 branch, but there are several other crowded ones where you would have the same problem.
  4. Budd is around, they only don't make railcars anymore. Too bad, 'cause they made the longest lasting cars with a good design and of course the still beautiful Zephyr (both locomotive and rounded end car).
  5. We're discussing 2 things here: lines by length and lines with the most stops. has the most stops, that's a fact.
  6. Wow, you're bad at counting. I count 62, just like most people here that counted it.
  7. True, but that's only in terms of length. In terms of stops, the beats the .
  8. I highly doubt that ridership will be lighter. After all the media attention to the failing equipment, I'm pretty sure A LOT of people including the press will be there even when it enters service in a weekend. Btw, I was thinking: does someone have information about the annoucement system? Is it the same system as in the M7's (This station is, this is the train to etc.) and the same voice (Charlie)?
  9. Those things sure are beautiful But 3 doors means less seating and A LOT of people travel with LIRR daily and some lines already have a lof of standing people, so to have even less seating, seems a terrible idea to me. I think the manufacturer will be Bombardier again. They built the current M7's for the LIRR and the MTA and most passengers are loving them (the M7's).
  10. Mysterious2Train said in terms of STOPS, not in terms of length.
  11. @Rutgers Tube: But why would it run on the LIRR? The LIRR has relatively new DE-30, M7 and M3 and even the older M3-fleet is in pretty good shape. MNRR on the other hand has aging fleet with lots of problems. Plus, the LIRR already gets M9's to replace the M3's before 2015. So why the heck would the LIRR ever need to run an M8?
  12. The line to Jamaica is quite a distance too. But I dunno if it's in the top 5.
  13. That, plus that the LIRR already plans on buying M9's before 2015 to replace the M3's, so the M8's won't be needed anyway.
  14. It's just my opinion, that's all. I know I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, that's why I said AFTER I said the outside was ugly that the INSIDE of the M8's is beautiful.
  15. True. I've never riden on a Silverliner V, but I can tell by pictures it's ugly. And stop attacking me for that, 'cause that is just my opinion. The M8's front will always be plain ugly IMHO, but nevertheless, the M8's overall are waaaay better than the M2's already.
  16. Not true. I like different things, that's not the point. It's just the front of the M8's, that's my only point of critism. Further, they are beautiful. Those Silverliner V's are just plain ugly IMHO and I mean overall. But the M8's should've got a more beautiful front, why not somethings like a mix of the front of the M7 and R160?
  17. They screwed up the M8's. Have you seen that front of the M8's? Even the M1's and subway R32's look beautiful compared to that ugly M8 front.
