  1. SJ reshaping 405 and 404

404 replaces 457's segment between rte 38 and moorestown mall.

457 streamlined to stay on kings hwy directly to moorestown mall.

404 to haddonfield and absorbs 451 up untill virtura w jersey hospital.

    You probably mean:

405 replaces 457's segment between RT. 38 and Moorestown Mall

Don't forget to add service to Target/Kohls at Hillview Shopping Center across from Cherry Hill Mall

457 Streamlined to stay on Kings Hwy directly to Moorestown Mall

Drop Camden-Gloucester City segment [except for pull-outs and pull ins], route via Kings Hwy, Lenola Rd, loop on Nixon Dr, enter onto Ring rd to the main bus stop, then on Lenola Rd, Cinnaminson Ave to Palmyra RiverLINE station.

404 To Haddonfield and absorbs 451 up to Virtua W.Jersey Hospital

NOPE - 455 does that job OK, Viurtua W. Jersey Hospital is now closed, replaced by the new huge complex on Rt. 73 in Voorhees.

That hospital needs route to run to Voorhees Town Center and Lindenwold PATCO [proposed 458].

404 needs to go down Haddonfield Rd, Marlton Pike, Cornell Ave to Cherry Hill ACRL station.

  2. South Jersey ideas:

450/ Regular route from WRTC to Mt. Ephraim & Rt. 130, then via Rt. 130, Nicholson Rd [to serve unserved W. Collngswood Heights] then back on it's regular route to Rt. 70 and Garden State Blvd, turn into the shopping Center roadway [prefer the one closest to the stores], turn left at Wegmans go to Town Center Dr. Right on Town Center Dr, Left on Haddonfield Rd to Cherry Hill Mall.

451/ Shorten route at Haddonfield PATCO, Run via Haddon Ave, Rt. 130, N.Park Dr, Colonial Hwy, Browning Rd, N. Park Dr, Rt. 130, Haddon Ave, Ferry Ave to Ferry Ave PATCO, then to Camden using the 453 routing. [Merging the 451 with the 453].

452/ Start at the 36th St RiverLINE station, follow regular route to 27th and Westfield Ave, then Westfield, 34th, Lemuel Ave, 36th St into the 36th St Station. This would be a complete loop with 36th St RL Station as starting and finishing point. Clockwise trips would be labeled as 452, counterclockwise trips labeled as 454.

455 / Terminate route at Haddonfield PATCO. Route is way too long [Cherry Hill Mall to Paulsboro] Sunday service extended to Haddonfield [currently Deptford Mall-Paulsboro]. Haddonfield-Cherry Hill [with extension to Pennsauken] route would be route 465- Extend this route up Haddonfield Rd, Rt. 73, River Road, and Derousse Ave to the Pennsauken Transit Center RL/ACRL station. This route would take a more direct route [Kings Hwy, Grove St which becomes Haddonfield Rd at Rt. 70] to CH Mall - drop low ridership routing thru Kingston Estates.

456 / Mall Link. this route will link Deptford Mall, Voorhees TC, Cherry Hill Mall, and Moorestown Mall. Major roads would be, from Deptford go up Clements Bridge, Evesham, turn at Burnt Mill [going into Ashland PATCO], Laurel Rd, Echelon Rd, Haddonfield-Berlin Rd , loop thru Haddonfield PATCO, Kings Hwy, Chapel Ave, Cooper Landing Rd, Rt. 38, Haddonfield Rd, Go into CH Mall, Church Rd, then follow current 457 route into Moorestown Mall.

NEW 457/ Start at Gloucester City [drop Camden-Gloucester route except for pull ins and pull outs], Market St, Kings Hwy to Lenola Rd, turn south on Lenola to Moorestown Mall, from Moorestown Mall loop around using Nixon Dr, RT. 38, then back on Lenola Rd, Cinnaminson Ave to Palmyra RiverLINE station. Leaving Palmyra, bus would loop on Cinnaminson Ave, Temple Blvd, Main Harbor, and back on Cinnaminson Ave back to Moorestown and Gloucester.

    451, 455, 456. 457 woud work on a timed-transfer basis at Haddonfield PATCO.

NEW 458 / Start at Lindenwold PATCO, White Horse Rd, Evesham Rd, Kresson Rd, Rt. 73 to the new Virtua Hospital Campus.

459/ Merge with 463 Bring 7 day a week service to Washington Twp.

469 / Woodcrest PATCO - Pennsville. Starting at Woodcrest, via I-295 to Broad St, then Broad St, Delaware Ave, then follow 402 to

    Pennsville.

What do you think of these ideas? Since I live in the South Jersey area the route descriptions are more detailed than most ideas.

Ideas on interstate routes will come in a few days.

  3. Something tells njt is trying to make the 553 exact fare. 8 novas on the 553 today and its pissing me off. Wtf are they thinking? Ppl are bitching, drivers are bitching, and i got wrote up today because i refused to take a nova out and got sent home. Damn that! I lose a days pay b4 i take a nova out ON THE 553. I am not sitting on that shyt for 2 round trips. Kiss my ass! Damn you njt!

Do you have a shortage of MCIs in AC ? Did you notice any going up north to help out in the mess up there? That could explain the Novas on the 553. I remember years ago riding this line on a 1400 series Flxible. Rode the sucker from Bridgeton to AC, what a nasty ride.

It may be the same situation over here in Camden. I saw NABIs on the 317, and saw one doing the 409 Trenton trip as well. [Actually not so surprising, if you look at the 400 schedule it takes 2:30 to make the Philly Sicklerville run, how would you like sitting in a NABI for all of that time? Philly-Trenton is about 2:30 so a NABI isn't out of the question on that route.]

  4. how long would 406 be if it skipped east camden and went on rte 70 directly to toms river?

vs a non stop line via 295 and 195 and GSP?

I think we established how useless 419 is.

I'm all for the 406 skipping East Camden, it might get more people to ride this bus into Philly during rush hours, but once you get past Medford, you're definitely in the sticks and no customers in that area.

See my Trenton Commuter post for buses using I-195 cross-state to Toms River, etc,.

  5. Here's my ideas for commuter service to Trenton. With the RiverLINE bringing commuters to Trenton from the south [along with the 418 bus], the NEC trains bringing commuters from the North, there should be a bus that brings State workers commuting from Ocean County to Trenton. During many rush hours, I notice from my RiverLINE train traffic backing up on 129 and at times on I-195. I know a bus might not help out with the traffic but it would give Ocean County and Central NJ some travel options.

Each route [631-632-633] would have 3 or 4 trips inbound to Trenton in the AM rush, and the same number outbound in the PM rush, with one special midday route [630] making 3 trips looping around the major communities in the Central NJ area [Freehold, Howell, Toms River, Lakewood].

    The routes are:

630- Trenton/Toms River: 3 midday round trips starting at Toms River, then Lakewood, Howell, Freehold, then express on I-195 to Trenton,

631- Trenton/Freehold Direct Exoress to Freehold and maybe a trip to Asbury Park

    632- Trenton/Howell/Lakewood

633- Trenton/Toms River Direct Express to Toms River Terminal

These bus routes would use MCI buses based out of Howell Garage.

What do you think of these proposals?

  6. Not all bus lines paralleling the rails have failed.

    126- Duplicates the PATH's Hoboken-NYC lines

    409-Duplicates RiverLine

    551/554- Duplicates Atlantic City Line

The 126 really does not duplicate the PATH Hoboken-NYC service because it serves a different market, and different areas. It serves as an internal route in Hoboken [and a piece of Weekhawken], goes to PABT where people walk to Times Sq, Rockefeller Center, and the far West Side of Manhattan. The Hoboken-NYC Path goes to the Financial District, or through Greenwich Village, Midtown, Herald Sq, edge of East Side of Manhattan.

The 409 serves the strip-mall laden Route 130 from Pennsauken to Willingboro, areas a very far walk from the River Line. The segment from Willingboro to Burlington serves the Our Lady of Lourdes hospital outside Willingboro, but from Burlington to Trenton, it is very quiet passenger wise since many prefer the faster, cheaper, more frequent RiverLINE trains. In Trenton the 409 supplements the 603/613 on Broad St, plus the added benefit of being a full-service line, not exact fare like the 603/613. The line that parallels the RiverLINE between Camden and Burlington is the 419 and the ridership is DEAD. These buses run mostly empty except in Camden where is is an alternative to the ratchet 452.

The 551 serves a totally different market than the ACRL, starting at Philly's Greyhound Terminal, stopping at the WRTC in Camden, then the Avandale P/R. This bus carries a different clientele than the ACRL between Philly, Camden, Avandale and AC. Casino workers pack the bus between Avandale and AC, while a lot of people ride between Camden and Avandale, topped off by the day-trippers [and some commuters] from Philly. Avoid this bus on Summer weekends though, the conditions are miserable with all of the day trippers from Philly packing the bus before the NJ regulars get a ride on this line.

The 554 essentially fills in the gap to the infrequently-operated ACRL, this route's ridership also come in from the points in-between the widely spaced ACRL stations as well, it parallels the line but really does not duplicate it.

  7. Just saw #1136 on the 507 out of EHT... seems like more and more North Jersey buses showing up down here..

1136 came from Newton Ave. it was part of the 1132-1138 group.

I just spotted 5640 (Kean University Liberty Hall wrap) on the 59.

So those two went back home. I bet 5639 is back at Ironbound as well.

Hilton's 5797-98 are still at Newton Ave. Saw them in Camden today.

Good question. I was thinking Academy Perth Amboy, since there really isn't that much left. I'm sure Veolia will be last.

The Big Question is; After Community Transportation gets their allotment of NABIs, who's next to get the NABIs?

What about Egg Harbor, now that they got Newton Ave rejects down there?

  9. You have to change the Egg Harbor Roster big time. A lot of the NOVA RTS buses that were assigned to Newton Ave and were displaced by the 5900 and 6000 series NABIs have migrated down to Atlantic City. Saw 1201, 1206, 1207, 1251, and 1577 up and down Atlantic Ave, some of the buses still have their "Burns Honda" and "Cherry Hill BMW" ads still on the buses. A lot of the "baby" RTSs are still running too.

There may be more 1200's in AC as NJT probably moved the 14-1500s up north.

Get your picturs of them [i did and will post them tommorrow] because I don't know when NJT will suddenly put new NABIs in AC.

  10. i want to see the 406 have express trips via I-295 and Rt 42 in both directions in AM and PM peak to and from Berlin Twp, NJ

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND???? That routing takes the 406 miles out of the way.

First, during rush hours, I-295 moves as slow as molasses.

Second, the I-295/NJ42 interchange is ONE HUGE CLUSTERF#CK all G_Damn day.

Third, it would be quicker to dump the passengers off at Woodcrest PATCO and make them take the train.

The best express routing is straight up Rt.70 to Admiral Wilson. Try to bypass Camden at all costs.

That brings me to my idea on Marlton Pike:

406/Philadelphia-Medford Lakes- Buses run local Medford Lakes to Marlton, then limited stops to Camden WRTC [via Rt. 70 and Admiral Wilson Blvd], then into Philly.

436/Camden-Virtua Hosp Voorhees local- All stops from WRTC, via Federal, Marlton Ave and Pike, split routing through Greentree Rd and Marlton Pike, then on Rt. 73 to the new Virtua Hospital Campus.

That's a more logical routing change/idea than the one you suggested.

  11. Anyone from Southern NJ care to chip in on proposals that NJT has thought of?

Well, I'd love to see some major changes to South Jersey routes to make them ore effective to get people to jobs and improve connectivity to the main rail lines [PATCO and the RiverLINE]:

1]split the present 400 into 3 routes: 400 Express /Philly-Sicklerville: Start in Philly, stop at WRTC in Camden, express to Deptford Mall, stop at mall, then express to Blackwood, then local to Sicklerville. 420/421 local on Mt. Ephram/Black Horse Pike: Both routes start at WRTC, then 420 would serve Deptford Mall and the County complex at Lakeland, end at Cross Keys Commons. 421 would serve Bellmawr Industrial park, Camden Co. College main campus, and extended to Lindenwold PATCO.

2]Extend 405 northward on Haddonfield Rd, Rt. 130, Cinnaminson Ave to Palmyra RiverLINE station. Connects Cherry Hill Mall with RiverLINE without making people go into Camden to transfer.

3]Split 409 into two routes: 409 Robeling to Philly, and 623 Willingboro to Trenton. Thanks to the RiverLINE nobody rides the 409 from Camden to Trenton anymore [LRT is faster and cheaper], split the bus lines to turn them around faster.

4]Reroute 419 between Riverside and Burlington via Pavilion Ave, Fairview St, Rt. 130, Beverly-Rancocas Rd, JFK Way, Levitt Parkway, Willingboro Town Center, Woodlane Rd, and Warren St/Beverly Rd [rt. 543-River Rd] into Burlington. Cut out the 409 Country Club Plaza routing [now served by the 419], provide more internal service within Willingboro. the 419 runs empty outside of Pennsaulen, this reroute would juice up the routing.

    More will be coming soon.

  12. Newton Ave only. 417 and 418 variant of 409 and 414 is variant of 407

414 and 417 are interstate routes

    407, 418 are intrastate routes

The 407, as well as the 403, 405, 413, and 419, are still classified as INTERSTATE routes because passengers on these routes can still purchase trips through to Philadelphia on these lines, they get a 'Continuing Trip" ticket to a Philly bound bus. It works in reverse as well, if you board any NJT bus in Philly, you can pay the full fare to any destination served by the 403, 405, 407, 413, 419 bus and the driver will give you a "Continuing Trip" ticket to these lines. If NJT made them truly "INTRASTATE" routes, the designator [and policies that goes with the designator] would have to change.

The present situation concerning these routes is that they are "short-turned" at Camden. Keeping the through fare to Philly is an olive branch offered to riders.
