  1. Yesterday I had to wait for 4 (4) trains to pass before I finally got on. There were like about more than 10 minute waits for the (4) in the p.m rush. I checked the countdown clock it says that the next (4) train is about 13 minutes away thats crazy in the rush hour. Delays can mess up the Lex Av line.

  2. Nov 16/17...they restored the (Q) outage. So that makes:

    - (L) 8 Av-Myrtle

    - (4) 161-Woodlawn

    - (7) Willets-Main

    - (J) Chambers-Essex

    - (E) Van Wyck-Jamaica

    - (Q) Church-57/7

    -Various minor express runs

Note: The (E) Jamaica outage also occurs on Thanksgiving weekend. I predict some problems w/ AirTrain-bound luggage-toting passengers.

They still have the (A)  (J) for the airport customers.

  3. Today's scrap notes, 10/22/13:

R27 8145 and R30 8463 have finally left to New Jersey a little before 2pm this afternoon. Four trucks were used: two for the railcars and two for the cars' trucks and other parts. Both cars have been stripped of glass and windows it seems. As a gag, pieces of paper were put on the end rollsign windows of 8145 - (C) New Jersey. Like the school cars that left yesterday, 8463 still had advertisements up inside. Photos of this move will be up tonight.

In other notes, R40 cars 4280-81 and R42 4572-73 have joined up with the Arnines at 207 Street Yard. The R95 Revenue Collection Cars, I did not see their location in the yard (pehaps inside the shop?).

No cars next up on the scrap line at this time.

So the R40 and R42 may run on the hiolday train?!?!?

  4. How the (Q) relays at Chruch Av during this G.O?

Q.png No trains between Church Av and 57 St-7 Av

N.png R.png trains and free shuttle buses provide alternate service
    Weekend, 11:45 PM Fri to 5 AM Mon, Nov 15 - 18

Service operates between Stillwell Av and Church Av.

Shuttle buses operate between Church Av and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr,
making stops at Parkside Av, Prospect Park and 7 Av.

    Travel Alternatives

For service between Church Av and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, take the free shuttle bus.

    • Transfer between shuttle buses and N.pngR.png trains at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

For DeKalb Av, take the R.png (N.png overnight) instead.

For service between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 57 St-7 Av, take the N.png or R.png.

    Shuttle Bus Information:

  5. Hopefully the Queens Blvd FastTrack will have no effect on the hours/frequency of the Brooklyn R service (Court St to 95th St) this week.  Waiting for the R shuttle at 36th St is every Bay Ridge resident's worst nightmare: it can easily add 45 minutes to a commute (20 minutes to wait for a delayed D or N, then just missing an R, followed by 20 to 25 minutes for the following R shuttle).

The Brooklyn section of the (R) will not be affected by the Queens Blvd Fastrack.

  6. Cross-honor (which for MetroCards basically means ride for free) until midnight. There's actually no need to run extra shuttle trains, just have all trains make Forest Hills/Kew Gardens/Woodside stops.

Good idea. I know that using the (J) requires a tranfer coming from Midtown. The (J) is long but it can help a bit.

  7. What do you think of a (J) 57th Street - Jamaica Center?  Or maybe a (Z) full Broadway express. (I know the idea of a Fastrack is not to disrupt the rest of the subway) But the (E) and (F) are still well patronized until about 1am. Currently the (7) has the capacity for the existing fastrack, but an Eastern("northern") QB shut down may be too much for bustitution.

The (J) to 57 St/6 Av is a Wallyhorse idea. People would get confused.

Not going to work, too convoluted and takes too long. If any supplemental service is to be provided besides shuttle buses I would say LIRR shuttle trains.

The L.I.R.R is expensive and cost more than the subway?

  8. For a Queens Blvd East shutdown, I would do this.

    (R)(M) ends early

(E)(F) turn at Roosevelt: run the (E) every 20min from 10pm onwards and the (F) local if Roosevelt can't turn them both.

    (F) shuttle train Sutphin to 179th.

Local bus: Roosevelt (E)(F), all stops to Union Tpk.

Express bus: Roosevelt (E)(F), Woodhaven, Forest Hills, Union Tpk, Briarwood-Van Wyck, Sutphin (F), Sutphin (J), Jamaica Center (J)

    Extra Q44 service until midnight

I would also make the (J) run every 6 to 8 minutes during this time until midnight. The MTA should allow a free walking tranfer from the (J) to buses at 165 St terminal during this time.
