EE Broadway Local Posted June 17, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 17, 2010 These days, street signs are pretty much a standard white on green, but did you know that when I was a little one, New York had colorful street signs that were color coded by borough? The Code: Manhattan: Yellow with Black letters and numbers The Bronx: Blue with White letters and numbers Brooklyn: Black with White letters and numbers Queens: White with Blue letters and numbers Staten Island: Yellow with Black letters and numbers These signs began being replaced around 1990, but some still survive. My favorite? The white and blue of The Bronx. This great page at Forgotten New York remembers our colorful street signs and shows examples in each borough. Enjoy! MTR Admiralty Posted June 17, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 17, 2010 In FiDi you do have the white on black signs. I believe the maroon signs in Central Park follow the same scheme as that of the National Parks, they have maroon highway signs.
7LineFan Posted June 17, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 17, 2010 I haven't checked in several months, but there's an old one near my house above a standard green one.
