Starting on Monday, Take the Train to the Game!

Having made quick work of the Minnesota Twins, the Bronx Bombers are set to bring their battle with the Texas Rangers back to the Bronx in the American League Championship Series. Now it's the MTA's turn to step up to the plate, making the trip to Yankee Stadium and home again as smooth as Robinson Cano's swing. MTA New York City Transit and Metro-North Railroad provide easy access to Yankee Stadium.

 

Take MTA NYC Transit from Midtown Manhattan or the North Bronx via the No. , (, or trains to the 161st Street Station. Metro-North Railroad offers plenty of direct, fast, convenient "train to the game" service via the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven Lines. Either way, Yankee fans are a short walk to the gate.

 

Of course, extra attention is paid to Yankee playoff games with capacity crowds of more than 52,000 fans requiring additional trains and train crews. After each game, No. , , and trains are queued along the center track of the Jerome and Concourse Lines and then called into 161st Street and filled one by one until the last Manhattan-bound customers are on their way. This system will be in place for night games on Monday, October 18th and Tuesday, October 19th, (both games start at 8:07 p.m.) as well as the scheduled afternoon game on Wednesday, October 20th (4:07 p.m. start if necessary).

 

Also providing Yankee fans with a little pre-game fun, the four-car "Nostalgia Special" is scheduled to leave 42nd Street-Grand Central approximately one hour before game time for all three games.

 

The cars, originally operated by the Interborough Rapid Transit (IRT) system, entered service in 1917 and worked into the early 1960s. They aren't air conditioned like the rest of NYC Transit's 6,300 subway cars, but there will be plenty of fans on board—Yankee fans, that is.

 

Metro-North also provides frequent shuttle service from Grand Central Terminal and the Harlem-125th Street Station before, during and after all playoff home games.

 

Special schedules will be in effect. On the Harlem Line there is one "Yankee Clipper" train that departs Southeast at 5:40 PM, stops at Brewster, Goldens Bridge, Mount Kisco, Chappaqua, North White Plains, White Plains, Hartsdale, Scarsdale, Crestwood, and Bronxville, then goes direct to Yankees - East 153rd Street Station at 6:55PM.

 

On the New Haven Line, there is one "Yankee Clipper" that departs New Haven at 5:26 PM, stops at Milford, Stratford, Bridgeport, Fairfield, Stamford, then goes express, directly to Yankees –East 153rd Street Station, arriving at 7:05 PM.

 

Harlem and New Haven customers also can take any inbound train and connect to the game shuttles at the Harlem-125th Street Station.

 

Since the Yankees-East 153rd Street station is a regular Bronx local stop on Metro-North's Hudson Line, many Hudson line trains, both northbound and southbound, will make a special stop at the station for both games. Check the website for specifics. In addition, there is one extra Hudson Line train that departs Croton-Harmon at 6:29 PM, makes a stop at Tarrytown at 6:39 PM and arrives at Yankees – East 153rd Street Station at 6:58 PM.

 

The station, which opened last spring, has proved popular with fans and was used by more than 4,000 people to get to and from each home game during the regular season.
