Rutgers Tube Posted February 17, 2011 Share #2 Posted February 17, 2011 Why does Metro North Gennie have a escape hatch on the front section of the engine unlike Amtrak gennie? Because the Park Avenue tunnels have such little clearance, the egress hatch was installed in the nose so that an engineer would have a fair chance of escaping a burning locomotive. HomeBall Posted February 23, 2011 Share #4 Posted February 23, 2011 It takes less time to die from smoke inhalation than to open that hatch.
