R36 Preservation Posted February 27, 2011 Share #1 Posted February 27, 2011 The 1980s archives recently added at NYCSubway.org are a valuable reference. However the photos are undated. Doing some careful detective work and using clues and dates based in info in the images, approx dates can be made. Most appear to be from 1986-88, with some from 1989 and few from the early 80s (1980-81). One curious thing is when was the extension at Coney Island Shops built? It can been in this image under construction. Since some photos from the same period and series shot at CI Shop depicts R30s and R36 WFs being overhauled, I'd assume to be 1986, possibly 1987-88 at the latest or 1985. (On the flip side, many of the 207 Street shop photos, show Main Line R33s being repainted and rebuilt, placing them in the 1987-89 range.) I don't really know, though...
KTrainExp Posted March 3, 2011 Share #5 Posted March 3, 2011 This may be a bit off topic, but does anyone know why isolated those R11s (I think) in the picture? There are two of them and they're on tracks that are completely ripped out.

R36 Preservation Posted March 3, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted March 3, 2011 I can tell everyone that the cars overhauled between 1984-1986 were 110 WH R10s, 24 GE R27s, 162 GE R30s, and all 424 R36/36WF cars. Weren't the R33WF cars also overhauled during that time period? Yes, 39 R33 WFs were overhauled at CI, all except 9306. It's interesting that more than 47 years after delivery in late 1963, 38 of the 40 R33 WF single units still exist (all but 9321 and 9339)!
