lilbluefoxie Posted February 3, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 3, 2012 Back in the day when the (6)/<6> had the R29/33s and R62As, what did they do during the week to set the signs to or since if the one end had that sign it would be wrong when it came around on the city hall loop. At Pelham Bay Park they would have more time to go around and set the signs right.
TwoTimer Posted February 3, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 3, 2012 Sometimes trains would go up and down the road all day with wrong signs. Generally speaking, the Pelham trains stayed at Pelham, the Parkchester trains stayed at Parkchester (which means the had wrong signs going north, but everyone understood the express was in the peak direction). The destination signs were how passengers found out whether it was a Pelham or Parkchester train, and also would figure out the express/local based upon the time of day. You just knew once you became a "straphanger" that there's no n/b express until 1pm, and after 9pm. Obviously s/b is an easier determination.
