Inter County (former SCT) Facility 187 Days Later

I got to take a stroll around Babylon on Friday (187 days, a little after 6 months from the SCT contract went to EBT on 1/1)...

Here's a pic I snapped of the yard...

You'll notice McCarthy Tour buses in the lot, the Bauman & Son school Buses are still there. There are also about a half dozen coach buses with casino logos on them, I remember shortly after the 1st of the year I looked at intercounty's website and it seemed they were trying to get into shuttling people back and forth to the casinos. I tried going to gointercounty.com today but, "access denied." When you Google "intercounty" & "babylon" gointercounty.com is the first result and the description of the page says "copyright 2011-2012 Ground Transamerica Inc., which I believe is the Coach Bus/Tour business.

Ground Transamerica Inc is the ticket agent for Inter-County's old coach routes, which are outsourced to other companies to run, which is why McCarthy Tour buses are probably in the lot.

Those School Buses should be John Bosch Inc school buses, which is a sister company to Inter-County Motor Coach and has offices right next door to ICMC, and not Baumann & Son. Baumann & Son's does have a base in Copiague,

like right next door to EBT Inc, but nothing in Babylon.

Inter-County according to state records is still an active company, but what its doing I have no idea, I do know that its Parent Company Babylon Transit was shut down right before ICMC lost their contract with Suffolk.

Yep they are John Bosch buses, I must have had Baumann & Son on the brain....

The last time I was intercounty's website they were selling and looked like they were rebranding the business into casino line runs. The business could be active and doing nothing, or they could have leases, contracts still in that name.

It's hard to see on the photo I posted but on one of the buses with it's back to the photo has a vynal on it that has the mohegan sun logo with Ground Transamerica Inc and ground transmerica's logo under that, with Ground Transamerica's phone number under their name... Leading me to believe Ground Transamerica Inc is booking and providing their OWN transportation to mohegan sun.

These logos are on older Prevost buses, totally different than the McCarthy buses. I thought maybe inter county was providing paid parking, and other maintenance services for coach bus owners. I thought that's why I always saw a New York Trailways bus parked there? Unless you know of another reason why they park there.

I'll see if I can get around and check out the DOT numbers. Anyone in Babylon?

Last I knew, Inter-County only had the County bus Contract. I know that they stopped operating Coach lines because the cost of Insurance had gone up and that was back around 2005 when they re-branded their website with Ground Transamerica Inc.

I Heard Ground Transamerica Inc wass a booking agent because a couple who used them because they got hit after stepping of a Horizon bus on a Casino trip which they had booked with Ground Transamerica Inc. In the lawsuit Ground Transamerica Inc said that they only sold the tickets for the trips and contracted with different companies to operate the routes. However since Inter-County lost their County contract they could of decided to start operating Coach buses again either under Ground Transamerica Inc or Inter-County's name.

Yea I was reading that lawsuit, I found it online the day I posted the original thread. They sued Babylin Transit (and another company with a very similar name), inter county ground transamerica. I think from reading Babylon Transit were dismissed as defendants because it was proven their sole business was "operating transit buses under a contract with Suffolk County.".

If thats the case I wonder why the buses always had "operated by inter county" instead of saying "operated by Babylon Transit" on the side.

Anyway, about the lawsuit. I wonder what happened with it? Someone gets hit by a car crossing sunrise hwy and not only sue the tour bus company that they rode (that had nothing to do with the accident), the booking agent, and to top it off the sister company that runs transit buses, and retail store of lot they parked in. Sue anyone in the area that may have money, they might not have had anything to do with the accident. Just in case the driver is worth nothing, somebody, anybody should have to give you that big pay day.

Well considering the buses say Ground Transamerica, I'd assume they're operating under Ground Transamerica. Sure they could be selling tickets under Inter County and contracting out "their sister company" for legal reasons. But that wouldn't make much sense since they put their company logo, phone number and casino logo all over the bus. If I wanted to take a casino trip and saw the bus I'd prob say hmm and call Ground Transamerica to book my trip.

Babylon Transit was the parent company of Inter-County Motor Coach, the Son-In-Law of the owner of Babylon Transit started Inter-County Motor Coach. In 1981 both Babylon Transit and Inter-County both operated routes and received buses from Suffolk's first bus order which were 1981 New Flyer D901A's. Its unclear as to when Babylon Transit stopped operating for the county or at least stopped using their name. I only know that the next two orders in 1982 had none going to Babylon Transit.

The contract could have been in the name of Babylon Transit but they used Inter-County's name since they were doing coach runs it was easier to use their maintenance employees, instead of hiring different people when they were sharing the same space anyway. Suffolk Bus Corp does the same thing I believe, according to reports SBC's contract is in the name of Suffolk Transportation and yet all the buses operated by them say Operator Suffolk Bus Corp.

I just know that in September 2011, around the time the Suffolk should have agreed to contracts, Babylon Transit closed its doors or at least according to State records. (I say according to because State records has Coram Bus Service shutting down in 1992, however someone was still paying insurance in the companies name up to 1999)

They could be planing on using Ground Transamerica as a coach business, since they don't have to worry about Suffolk's Contract, they could probably afford Insurance for coach buses. (Ground Transamerica, Inter-County Motor Coach, John Bosch Inc, and Babylon Transit were all owned by the same family)
