Tracks of the NYC Subway cover picture contest winner

I'd also like to take the time to thank other entrants for their great work. I normally can decide on a cover within a day or two of the contest ending. It took me 2 weeks to get this one, and I had to pass over many others that were shot with digital zoom or weren't lit well, or had framing issues. I loved about 16 images out of the many received, and I mocked up all of them. In the end, it came down to images that were shot at high resolution, could be easily wrangled to fit my printed-image frame, and most of all, that looked GREAT. I'd like to personally thank Zach Summer, Anthony Maimone, and Trevor Jensen. As time allows, I'll try my best to put up the runner-up images on this thread during the next few days.

NOW the hard work begins, as I start editing the 2018 edition and getting it ready for press. Once again this year, that's where you come in. I need new material. Any track or signals changes, and new signal plans, rolling stock fleet/roster updates, car and yard assignments, long-term General Orders and anything else that is relevant to the scope of the book are gratefully accepted. Please email nyctrackbook at gmail dot com. Major contributors will get their name on the inside cover if they wish. The 2018 edition will roll off the presses during the first week of December, and pre-orders should be sent out no later than December 9th--although, as usual, I will try to make it earlier if I can.

As promised, here are the runner-up entries. Like I said initially, this year I had some positively great submissions and it came down to the little things in the end. I honestly loved each and every one of these, and if I could do multiple covers a year I would use every single one of them. And who knows...if I get a year with less-than-stellar submissions, I still might use one of these for a front or back. They are presented in no particular order. My personal favourites among these were the first one, the snowstorm and the 7 train at dusk. That one would have won if the resolution would have been higher. It looks great on screen but test prints showed some pixelation.
