LexAveExp5 Posted November 10, 2021 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2021 https://gothamist.com/news/mta-secures-billions-federal-aid-last-minute-deal-nj-ct ... is this ADDITIONAL Covid relief money or is it the money the MTA already got this year for Covid relief just now being distributed? I can’t keep up with how many billions the MTA has gotten for Covid relief anymore. To be clear, this is for the operational budget

To be clear, this is for the operational budget This is additional money, so they got $14 billion IIRC, and now this $10 billion. Some of the funds is for infrastructure projects like the SAS extension and the Metro-North Bronx Project to Penn Station, and the rest is indeed for the operational budget. This doesn't bring them out of the woods, but they certainly can't use the excuse that they aren't getting funding to keep running the current service, because this will hold them for a bit at least until more permanent funding is found/finalized. This has allowed them to hire more bus operators and conductors and pay for overtime with the ongoing worker shortage. I would expect more to come down the line as long as Schumer has any say.
