Received an email to take an exam to for Metro north ticket seller. Does anybody have information on this position. Is anybody currently in this role that can tell me what their current job duties are

When me and another person applied on here, we didn’t get any emails and it says the position was closed and filled a long time ago. When did you apply to this posting?

No it came to my general email.

@2ride I applied externally. I was just recently hired with mta New York City transit on.  3/28/22 through a civil service test I took in 2016. Idk if that had anything to do with it. I definitely applied prior to being an employee directly on the mta website.

Could you describe what the process was with getting hired off a eligible list? As in, how long the process was from them calling, then interviewing then what occurs? Do they present a formal offer letter for employment?

And after you accepted, what's that process? Do they have some sort of on-boarding over at 180 Livingston? Thanks for any info in advance. Their hiring process is a bit mysterious.

@Alucard  i was hired for a different position with mta.  I’m going to do the exam for metro north in a few weeks. I will update you with the process if I pass.

Yeah, I was hoping you could share what that "getting" hired off the eligible list experience was like. So the interest was more towards, the position you got hired for, and not directly in relation to the MN Ticket Seller exam. There are some individuals that are at the interview stage & really are not sure what the next process/steps & timing are, so thought you could share. Glad to see that a exam from 2016, has paid off, things do take a while :) Good Luck!!

Okay so they basically send you a text and call which is automated to come in 180 Livingston for preemployment. You have to show 3 forms of id. You’ll fill out a packet with job history and other things and submit your documents ie. proof of vaccine, high school diploma, birth certificate & social. Everything has to be the original . Then you’ll be waiting to do your drug test. Once you finish your drug test you’re done for the day. Then when they’re up to your number to put you on the next class for whichever title, you’ll receive an email conditional offer with a date to go back in. When you go in the second time you Do another packet which has to match exactly what you put on the first packet(jobs have to match with no gaps) the email will tell you to bring a blank money order of a certain amount for fingerprints and you’ll get sworn in. then you’re just waiting for your first day

Thanks so much for the insight Lexy, seems like it's a procedure than comes in phases. And I guess at each phase one has just provide them with what they request, then wait, and give them anything else they require until it gets to that point to get appointed/sworn in on the position/title. Happy to see that even after 6 years, that the exams can be productive towards a full time in title position. I guess at the final stages of getting say employee IDs, start date etc they also provide that worker benefit MetroCard? Or is that integrated into the Worker ID?

Again, thank you for the details. I'm sure many will read it & get a better understanding of the process & maneuverings once the ball starts rolling. Good luck with the new position & the future exam.

No problem. Yes I was absolutely shocked I was even called. So you’ll get take your picture  on the second preemployment day that they call you when you go get sworn in. One of the papers in the packet there’s a place for you to indicate if u would prefer LIRR or Metronorth. You get your id in training

Great to hear, some of these exams seem to sit dormant for years before they even get to be an established list. So much can change in the long duration, but it's certainly good to see positive outcomes that emerge eventually. Seems many say the hard part is just getting in, if the major challenge is that, then you are well on your way. Thanks for all the nuggets of info.

what was the duration of time from the 1st pre-employment day, to the 2nd/final pre-employment day? and then to your 1st day starting/

Thanks again.

From the 1st date. They called me after a week to come in to do the second part and the date of the next class scheduled  was literally a few days after  but I wasn’t vaccinated so it delayed my process. It’s different for everyone depending on your list number because they have to have a certain amount of ppl for the class.

Interesting info, so it's possible that on the first call to pre-employment one may not have had the vaccine at that point, but they allow time for someone to get it done.

I was wondering about this, if you have to show up at that first pre-employment with vax credentials, or if they would allow for you to get it further down in the process.

I guess with the 1 shot, J&J it's probably the quickest turnover to get "fully" clear of that requirement, but there's been some notable cautions with that particular vax.

I see most of the job postings state that the requirement has to be cleared prior to one's start date. So that perhaps gives the flex in time through the pre-employment process.

Good info again, Thx!
