R46 End Caps getting painted?

I've been noticing a lot of "new" looking R46 cars, and then I noticed it's just really the ends that are extra shiny.

 

 

Here are a couple pics I've found that show what I mean.

 

 

Super shiny, looks like some silver metallic paint.

 

 

 

 

And the dull steel I'm used to.

 

 

 

 

 

 

I can safely assume it's paint. But isn't a car wash sufficient? Do all the ends really need a new paint job?

The R46's are going thru an SMS, That's why they have their end bonnets repainted

Ya know... I kinda knew the answer to my own question.

 

 

Cause as soon as I posted it I thought about the blue seats and thne went "Oh... SMS... right...".
