  1. I was on a R32 (A) today, the rollsigns all were set to 168th Street and (A) Washington Heights - 8th Avenue/Fulton and I didn't any (A) to 168th G.O. today, thought I'd share that here. It definitely wasn't a (C), the flipdot was set to the (A), the rollsigns still said Far Rockaway, it ran on the express track, and as I said before it said (A) Washington Heights on the rollsign.

  2. Train is a train. As long as it ain't those God damn R68s, I'm cool. But I still do not see the point in the (6) and <6> downgrading into R62s.

Some line's gonna have to "downgrade". They might as well send them to the (6), whatever line they send them to there's gonna be people complaining so just make it easy and put them on the (6), after all these cars have the LEDs on the rollsigns.

  3. Buying it no doubt about it. I'm a Mac user and always wanted the iPhone, but I didn't bother with the iPhone last year because of the lack of 4G, so I went with the Evo Shift instead. Sprint caps 3G data but not 4G, so I don't take my chances lol, and even if the 4S was 4G it'd probably have been LTE and Sprint had no LTE at the time. They just announced that LTE is coming to the NY very soon a few days ago, and I'm due for my upgrade on October 1st, so I can't wait to get this!

  4. Update 4812 and 4899, as of 6pm today (seen with my own two), BOTH buses are sitting at Zerega, confirmed. 4812 is standard spec, 4899 is sporting some sort of a silver engine (report was it is a Detroit DD11...Need confirm on that).

Keepin' my fingers crossed for that DD11, THAT would be some bus! Take an already awesome bus and put a Detroit engine in it, that's a bus I wanna ride and/or foam over.

  5. No matter of what line the R62As are going.. One line must get the OTT's, and riders just have to deal with that.. What if (1) and (3) riders start to complain with R62's on their lines? What can be done? Nothing! The same applies to the (6). If (6) riders may dislike getting the old, (4) riders may also dislike it, but they just have to deal. Many lines have to deal with OTT's, they just ride on the train and do not complain. The train will bring you from point A to point B. Thats enough.

Exactly, it's public transit that you pay $2.25 to ride. If you can't deal with older cars on your line then take the bus, take another line, or buy a car/take a cab.

  6. Well, won't the new cars run in the same trainsets as the old ones? If that's the case, then the new motors will have to be compatible with the old ones.

R160 Alstom and Siemens can run in the same consist, so I'm sure they can do the same with these.

  7. Why are people expecting that the traction motors would be changed?

AC Traction motors are not cheap by any means.

They could be thinking that because the new cars will probably have different traction, but I don't see why the converted cars would need new motors to be compatible with the new ones.

  8. Alstom propulsion boxes on the bottoms of the cars have a nameplate with the Alstom logo on it. I don't know about the converted cars, but the new cars will more than likely have new traction motors as I'm positive Bombardier no longer makes the Adtranz propulsion from the 142As. Kawasaki has been building a lot of cars with Siemens propulsion lately (in the 160Bs as well as the PA-5s), so I'm expecting them.

  9. QJT stop hating on the damn MCAT so much. It's small and crappy, they use cutaway buses, but what do you expect a system with low ridership serving a suburban area where most people drive? There ain't gonna be no New Flyers, Novas, etc. or even Gilligs purchased by MCAT until they get much higher ridership. Stop saying NJT has to take over when there's no LOCALS who ride it DAILY complaining about it. Same with OceanRide.

  10. They're looking into DMU's or Diesel Multiple Units for scoot service, but really the truth is that the DE/DM30's suck, the LIRR should've gone with GE Genesis as Dual Mode Locomotives and PL42AC's Diesel Electric Locomotives instead.

If you want to read all about that DMU topic, look at this article below:

    http://www.thetransp...p-branch-lines/

LIRR DMs should've been catenary powered. The catenary is in Penn Station and the tunnels, and with that you won't have incidents like that one with the pushcart.
