  1. You do realize ALL countywide bus services in NJ are funded by NEW JERSEY TRANSIT!!!!!!!!!!! Read the fine print on the schedules. You can not escape NJT you never will. B35 is right the counties will not improve those services to acceptable levels as they run based on funding they get from NJT. However NJT is not the only statewide operation DART first state is another and the broken CTTransit yes county services in CT are in fact indirectly controlled by you guessed it CTTRANSIT.

One more thing NJT's 600 series 700 series and 800 series except MCM were former countywide services operated by the individual counties themselves before they backfired and NJT came to the rescue via takeover. Burlink lines are administered by NJT every form of transit in New jersey runs through NJT first it is impossible to sidestep them. Counties aren't going back to that except ones that never had service to begin with guess what sussex transit and cape may fare free is funded by drum roll please New Jersey Transit. I am willing to bet that 100% of those RTS vehicles are used exclusively on the toms river connection the only Ocean Ride route that ppl can actually use. The only line that doesn't run like an atrocity and funded by NJT. Just saying based on the facts carry on.

I completely understand that, and I have no problem with NJT funding county buses as without state funding the systems would likely shut down. But not every service needs to be OPERATED by or under contract to NJT or using NJT-owned buses. In NY State systems where state funding is received, the bus system orders their own buses, and that's how I think it should be here. That's how it is with Somerset and OceanRide at least with their RTSs, I believe MCAT owns their own buses as well.

NJT should just be responsible for funding the various transit systems in the state, and maybe operating the commuter rails as well or hiring contractors such as Veolia to operate them. They should also be a quality control agency to ensure the systems operate safely and on-time.

  2. At least OceanRide has some RTSs that aren't owned by NJT and actually have some decent specs IIRC (Detroit/Allison or at least one of the two, again IIRC).

I personally don't like the idea of statewide public transit, after all NJT is the only statewide transit system in the nation. I like how some counties are trying to start up their own systems, they just got to improve on them. Look at Somerset, they got Millennium RTSs up there, so obviously they found that there was enough ridership for 40-foot buses to be used (I never rode their system so I don't know how their ridership is). Plus, with individual counties (or multiple counties forming a regional MTA-like system) running their own buses, there'd actually be variety in the bus fleets throughout the state, not everything would be NABI or whatever NJT orders, but that's just from a busfan's perspective.

  3. I've seen a few sheriff cars crusing around these past few days. I know SI is spread out, but it's not that spread out. :o I always associate sherriffs with rural areas out in the West or something.

In most states there's a good amount of municipalities that contract with the county sheriff for police services. They also usually patrol any unincorporated areas of a county. Now as for the NYC Sheriff being out on SI, I can't explain that. Don't they do evictions?

  4.

When buses are in black and white, they are destined to the scrapper

Academy used black and white RTSs at EWR, I believe for employee shuttles not the parking lots which use the Port Authority's Orion VII OGs, but IDK if they were NJT-owned or not. I noticed that the employee shuttles there are now operated under Golden Touch (still technically Academy) with cutaway buses like they use on the NYC Airporter. The parking lot/AirTrain shuttles are still under Academy but use O7s exclusively, so IDK what happened to the black and white RTSs but they could still be in Academy's possession. Also Academy has directly-owned RTSs numbered in the 1000s (which may include the EWR shuttles I mentioned), so those buses weren't necessarily NJT buses.

  5. As far as I know you could try the Canon Rebel T2/T3 (NOT the T2i/T3i as those are more expensive, body alone they're just at or under 600 but with the kit lens you're pushing 700)

I just got the T2i, $600+tax with a free bag at Best Buy. Came out to $649 with Texas sales tax, it'll be a bit more in NY though. If you really want to save on that go to the one in Jersey City by the Newport Mall for 3.5% tax. I'd go to Best Buy and see if you can still get that deal, you should be able to but you might have to order it online and go for in-store pickup or have it shipped.

  6. Does anyone know what route they are getting shipped down? I know it's not for awhile, but I would love to catch some photos of it a few hours before it hits the city.

I believe orders coming from the Plattsburgh plant make their way (by rail) down the Hudson Line all the way through CSX and MNCR territory into the city. I forget which yard they are delivered to, but I believe Livonia since I know it has a railroad connection. They probably come down the Hell Gate line to get there.

  7. "They might just use the same number pattern as the rest of the NJT NABI's just with "3" in front of it (like instead of just 6100, it'd be 36100, etc). Kinda how they did with the Novas.

This might sound weird but I really cant wait to see how the 24/44/31 look with orange LED destination signs. Lol I been seeein them with just the green flipdots for so long"

Well, the R&Ts and the one(s) in service with Newark Airport Express don't have the 3 in front like the Novas, but that could change. This is Coach USA after all.

  8. The Woodbridge - Staten Island route would have to be NJT Operated. Just have the passengers dropped off at a station once inside SI. Honestly, too many legalities with MTA to have both companies operate one line. Think about the operation of the 139 with Academy. Academy tickets are not accepted on NJT buses. So, if MTA was to operate it, 100% that MTA will not accept NJT tickets and vice-versa if it was MetroCard on NJT Buses.

Thing is, NY residents would probably benefit more from that route (like the S89) so it could be (MTA) operated. Like I said before, a route that benefits both states' residents should be run by a PBL with equal funding from both sides IMO, but if one state benefits more that state should operate the route. If a lot of NJ residents end up using the route, then NJT should subsidize its operation or a PBL should take it over with equal funding from NJ and NY.

  9. yes it goes thru the station at kawasakis then to 34st st pen station and it will make it self thru the old south ferry loop then you had acess to the (2) or (5)

No, Kawasaki's plant is connected to the Metro-North Hudson Line. If you're thinking the trains go from Kawasaki down MNR/Amtrak to Penn that still isn't possible, there's no track connection in Penn from Amtrak/NJT/LIRR to the subway system. Subway cars are never at that plant unless they are being assembled or having major work done on them.

  10. i guess academy is out, so coach usa should operate the route. NABIs or MCIs?

Something to the Woodbridge area should be operated by Academy, but for the Newark area Coach USA is already the main PBL so they should operate a route that goes there. I'd honestly go RTS/NABI, though for a route that goes to the airport MCIs might work due to the overhead storage. But then again, NABIs can get luggage racks, so I really don't know. Academy has some Nova LFSes (ex-Rutgers) that I'd love to see on any route they operate, they probably won't brand the SI-NJ route(s) as NJT so they'd have to either brand some NABIs/RTSes as Academy or just bring out some buses they own directly like the LFSes for operation on a directly-controlled Academy route. They also have D60LFs from Rutgers as well, maybe if the route(s) get(s) good ridership they can use those.

  11. Joe Lhota has stated that he wants transit agencies to get together for the railroads but what about bus service between Staten Island and New Jersey? That would be a good place to start the cooperative process by working with New Jersey to provide service to and/from Staten Island.

The service was needed, is needed and will be needed now and in the future, not only for the Woodbridge Mall but for Newark Airport and Newark Penn Station and other points as well. I cannot tell you how many times good ideas has been proposed over the years and were shot down, for one reason or another. The agencies need to cooperate as revenues have to increase as funding on all levels is continuing to decrease and service will continue to deteriorate on all levels.

The members are making excellent suggestions and the time has come for the agencies to start thinking outside the box.

Smart ideas. Port Richmond to Newark Penn via Jersey Gardens, IKEA, and the airport. That'll get a ton of ridership. I personally think that on routes where both states' riders will benefit, they should be operated by one of the PBLs (in this case probably Coach USA) with equal funding from both states.

  12. But why extend the S56 via Woodbridge Mall when the SI mall is closer

It's a much larger mall than SI with different stores (like 1 additional anchor than SI, 2 once Boscov's opens next year in the old Fortunoff), and there's a ton of SIers that go there. Half the cars in the parking lot there on any given day have NY plates. If they run a bus there from SI it's likely to get good ridership. It'd also probably boost the amount of people that shop in the mall, since there's probably SIers that won't go over the bridge nowadays thanks to the Port Authority's ridiculous tolls.

  13. Yeah, I was joking around. Like I said, I'm not spending hundreds of dollars on sneakers.....

Hey, I enjoy camping out in the Queens Center Mall and causing riots over my spot in line for those expensive show-offy sneakers! *sarcasm*

Seriously, I can't understand why people camp out for those. Camp out for the new iPhone or something like that, fine, but sneakers?

  14. 440: Woodbridge-Staten Island-Rt. 440 Express.

Hell yeah! Central NJ needs a public transit link to Staten Island, one from Woodbridge to SI would probably get great ridership because already a lot of people from SI shop at the Woodbridge mall. They could probably operate it middays and weekends too instead of rush hours only like the S89. Though I don't know if it should be NJT or MTA operated. I guess NJT, since the MTA already has the S89. I'd love to see more Orions on the streets of Jersey, but I guess it'd also be interesting seeing RTSes./NABIs on Staten Island.

  15. Speaking of South Jersey.

ACY Atlantic City International Airport. This airport needs NJ Transit bus service!

I took a flight out of there in May 2011 and I walked four miles from Black Horse Pike to the terminal (319 PABT to 502), rolling suitcase in hand.

That airport sucks, as well as the airline that serves it.

Can I hear it for JFK AND JETBLUE?
