  1. Phew. What a day yesterday.

We took the X17C to the (A) to the (C) and went to the Museum of Natural History. Then we wanted to see a free "Shakespeare In The Park" show, but they ran out of tickets, so we sat outside and listened to the play (since the speakers worked really well). We managed to get some tickets during the intermission, though.

We had to leave early because we thought we had a chance at catching the 11:30 ferry. Unfortunately, we got to Bowling Green at 11:33, so we decided we might as well just wait for the X10, instead of waiting an hour for the next ferry. (On a side note, that (4) train was pretty crowded for a Saturday night). The bus came at 11:53, which was right on time (actually, I wasn't paying attention, but the last time I checked my watch, it was 11:49, and the X10 came a few minutes later, so I assume it came at 11:53).

We were supposed to have 3 transfers on the MetroCard, but it only took 1, so we decided to just pay the remaining $6.50 in coins. (It's a PITA to apply for a refund on the MetroCard and mail it in and everything). A nice woman gave us change for a few dollars, and then she said that she had a MetroCard with $2.65 and she'd give it to us for free. So we thanked her and paid the rest in coins.

We got home around 12:30, which was probably around the same time we would've gotten home if we had taken the ferry. In fact, I think I saw an S62 further back as we turned from Willowbrook Road to Victory Blvd (but it was dark, so it could've just been a car).

Damn, how many people were on the X17C yesterday? I was on the one that's scheduled to stop at the SI Mall at 4:49, bus 2152. Traffic was awful!

  2. Back to topic as R160s on the R has nothing to do with the title of this thread.

I can't understand why there are only 140 out of the 222 in service on the A. Only two sets of R32s could be used for work service while 220 out of the 222 can operate on the A. There are enough R32s to run on the A alongside the 176 R46. Why does East New York Yard even bother to give 20 cars of R42s to Pitkin Yard for the A?.... ._. This is just my opinion.

They can't run every single R32 in service, they need spare cars on standby.

  3. It's going to be the same for obvious reasons. The MTA is not going to replace all of the fully functioning traction motors on 380 subway cars, that's just a waste of money.

I'm talking about the NEW cars that are being built NEW. I'm pretty sure the R142A traction motors are no longer made by Bombardier, and Kawasaki hasn't used them at all for traction motors lately. For rapid transit cars, they've really only been using Siemens, except the R160Bs that have Alstom propulsion since they were built in a joint venture with Alstom.

  4. Wabtec Signs Contracts To Provide Components For 473 Subway Cars For New York City

Wabtec Corporation (NYSE: WAB) has signed contracts valued at about $34 million to provide components for 473 subway cars being supplied by Kawasaki to MTA New York City Transit under the R-188 option order. The cars are scheduled to be delivered in 2013-15.

Wabtec will provide the following components for the cars: Brakes, couplers and current collectors (Wabtec Passenger Transit), door operators and related equipment (Vapor Stone), and event recorders (Wabtec Railway Electronics). Of the 473 cars, 103 will be new, with the remaining 370 to be upgraded from existing vehicles.

"This is a significant project to expand and modernize a portion of the subway car fleet in New York City, and we're pleased to play an important role," said Albert J. Neupaver, president and chief executive officer of Wabtec.

Wabtec Corporation is a global provider of technology-based products and services for rail and industrial markets. Through its subsidiaries, the company manufactures a range of products for locomotives, freight cars and passenger transit vehicles. The company also builds new switcher and commuter locomotives, and provides aftermarket services. The company has facilities located throughout the world.

Now if only we knew what propulsion the new cars will have...

  5. I have a lot of friends who have Sprint and they have had signal problems and also issues with replacements. If i were you, I would change carriers if possible, but early termination fees can be a PITA, so buying a new phone may be your best bet.

This is why I don't have a carrier with contracts anymore.

I have MetroPCS and the LG Optimus M+ and I love it, although data is a bit slow sometimes.

We're not getting rid of Sprint. The unlimited data is a BIG thing for us. If it was just me on a single-line plan, I'd probably get MetroPCS, but Sprint's not that bad. The replacements are the only problem I've really had with them.

  6. Oh give me a f**king break! The one time Kawasaki isn't gonna be involved in a NYCT car order, and this happens! I swear if I have to hear that damn Alstom propulsion on these things I'm gonna flip!

I really hope Bombardier gets to keep this one. They still got the BART contract even after Alstom protested Bombardier getting the award.

  7. And this is why we have Sprint. If my family can have UNLIMITED data on a 3 line family plan for less $$ than VZ, why would we have them? Because (literally) everyone else does? I won't go near VZ wireless (or AT&T for that matter) until they have unlimited data and they lower their rates. Sprint really isn't bad like people say it is, coverage is fine, the 4G is pretty fast even though it isn't LTE (they are rolling out LTE too), I have no complaints. The only thing I'll use VZ for is FiOS.
