  1. I applied and I am going to study the material that is used in the NYPD exam. http://www.nypdrecruit.com/exam-center/exam-tutorials
  2. True, it should be one of the lesser priorities. Though I should really get out more
  3. My prediction is that we will see some activity towards the middle of the year, April - May if List 2613 goes really fast and they need a lot of bus operators.. As we start 2015 we should start evaluating when to get the CDL permits (particularly if you think you achieved a high score) and to make sure we address any health issues before we go for medical. Also start getting together past work histories, disposition for any previous charges and make plans to address any outstanding legal issues or anything else. We may only get one chance. Most importantly keep driving safely! Also, I think that if you have an unfamiliarity with a borough, you should begin to look at bus maps just to get a sense of the routes. Being from Staten Island my knowledge of Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx is limited I think it be best for me to get some familiarity. We are not guaranteed to get the depot of our first choice; so doing this might help.. Best wishes for 2015 4600!
  4. Yesterday Sunday (about 14:30 -> ?) the x17/x1/x10/x27 bypassed anything below Vesey Street due to road closure on Broadway. Buses went Park Row -> Frankfort -> Pearl ->Water -> State and resumed at Battery Place, no mention on Bus Time or on MTA website. Anyone on Broadway after Barclay was SOL in the afternoon unless they had signs posted (which they typically don't).
  5. I, like a lot of people walk through midtown or downtown almost everyday and I probably appear in other people's pictures. Keep in mind it's all about context, the intent was to photograph the bus on a street, the B/O was simply incident to that picture. I can recall one recent instance in Little Italy/Chinatown, where this puny 20-something tourist literally walked up to this elderly Chinese woman and snapped a picture, boyfriend or male companion didn't do sh-t. Now that pissed and still pisses me off as that was clearly inappropriate. Yes, I do get a little annoyed in instances where I am in a photo whilst walking on a public street or elsewhere in a public venue (as in having to walk around folks at the most really), but am not going to get bent out of shape over it. Also, I have never seen anyone going off on anyone taking a street scene picture, either here in New York or any of the hundreds of US and cities worldwide either. I've even visited former Soviet Union countries and never had or seen a problem.
  6. The BO began taking pictures of you? On Duty? On the bus/driving??? BTW, it is a public street as long as you weren't obstructing the sidewalk or in traffic, there is absolutely nothing wrong with what you are doing as far as my understanding of the law is. Keep doing what you are doing! As a possible future BO, I'd have no problems with it.
  7. The 2015 Examination Schedule (January - June) for MTA is out: http://web.mta.info/nyct/hr/appexam.htm No bus operator exams. FYI. Conductor and station agent are listed.
  8. This afternoon's ride in: x17 -> via 8th Avenue from Houston to W 57... However, console ops came on and told all uptown express to avoid 8th Ave and take 10th Ave . Kinda sucks if you have to be in East Midtown (Madison Ave) and be dropped off on 10th. Stayed on until 23rd and rode the uptown. Tonight's ride back. At 19:00ish I checked Bus Time across from City Hall, there were three x17's way uptown at the beginning of the route. The x10 flew past me completely packed. (I can't remember if I checked the x1 on Bus TIme, but saw no x1 from Barclay to Bowling Green) So I decided to take the SI Ferry to the s74. When I got off the s74 (Woodrow & Arthur Kill) the first two buses just completed their routes (Huguenot & Woodrow), so I only lost 25 minutes.
  9. They are about 2/3 of the way of all candidates having some interaction (drug test/medical/training) with the post-exam hiring process. Candidates have been called since Fall of 2013 and please read the update from YoungNYCSubwayFan (who among many others has helped us tremendously in this process shared the following post: There are 3617 eligible candidates. In my opinion and if we are optimistic at the earliest we can see a list be published at about late spring or early summer 2015. Keep in mind that there are folks who have removed themselves from the list and put themselves back on, OTOH, there are people who chose not to take the position, have driver's license problems, problems at their current job, folks with unresolved legal matters etc.,. Additionally, we have to wait and see how many current B/O's apply for retirement (January is a month where many do), which us prospective new hires will replace. Please follow the Exam 2613 thread for insight: http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/topic/34980-bus-operator-exam-2613-questions/?p=808233 See Official MTA HR website for 4600 candidates: http://web.mta.info/nyct/hr/4600.htm
  10. For almost all South Shore routes there are plenty of wooded areas near terminals and along routes for one to discretely answer nature's call even during the day. The ETC has employee only restrooms which get usage from the B/O's during their scheduled stop.
  11. Mods: Please move to the Employment Section. OP: The filing period for MTA B&T Officer, Exam 5606 was between Oct. 1 - Oct. 21, 2014. http://web.mta.info/nyct/hr/pdf_exams/5606.pdf http://web.mta.info/nyct/hr/5606.htm In addition, there really is no dedicated forum within NYCTF for this topic however, you can use this topic for this exam if you wish. I have signed up for it and maybe a few other folks here have.
  12. Since I am a little FUNderemployed at the moment after my meetings in Midtown I did a little train/bus fanning, my day was as follows: x24 (Academy) Staten Island to Midtown via NJ Turnpike & Lincoln Tunnel -> @ 34 St.to Midtown Meeting -> 53 Lex -> Q53 LTD at Jackson Heights Broadway/75 Street to Rockaway B 116 Street (Walked to B 90 along the shore) to B 90 Station to Broad Channel, then after a LONG wait to the to Chambers and finally x19 home.
  13. Exam 2301 was for MTA Bus and other applicants who have "failed" BOSS have received similar notifications for OA and Bus Company. I am not sure if that applies to NYCT, per the e-mail "MTA Broadcast" regarding the 4600 BOSS Exam: I worry that if I or anyone failed we will not be notified by the MTA that we specifically "failed" the exam, but will be subject to that pesky (drum roll) "1 in 3 rule" and dropped from the list. With these personality exams, I get a little nervous.
  14. Random musings: My Sunday commute from Staten Island to Jersey City, NJ! What is wrong with the picture? Time removed. Yes 2 x17's back to back, there are 30 minute headways in between buses. Times/Locations slightly distorted. 10:00 x17 Woodrow/Huguenot 1st Stop 10:00 Departure: No Bus Arrives 10:15 x17 Woodrow/Huguenot 1st Stop bus arrives at 10:15 10:57 x17 Bus is nearly full there were some riders using bus as a local 11:00 x17 10:30 departure bus drives past nearly empty flies to Brooklyn 11:01 x17 B/O receives call, possibly from Console OPS? 11:20 x17 arrives Bay Ridge, drops off six PAX, traffic checker (?) gets on counts PAX, filling out blue paper 11:35 x17 arrives to WTC 11:50 NY Waterway (WFC) After brisk walk I arrive to World Financial Center - PATH Ferry 12:00 NY Waterway (Paulus Hook) Jersey City, NJ - PATH Ferry 12:05 Jersey City Taxi to JFK Blvd. & Montgomery Ave 12:20 Arrival to JFK Blvd. & Montgomery Ave I have made it from Staten Island to Journal Square under 1.5 hours many times! Though due to the PATH closure at WTC on weekends this is not an option for the time being. There was no reason why it took 1 Hour + to go from Woodrow/Huguenot to the last SI Stop, where it should take 30 minutes, even with the late pullout. Anyways, getting back. PATH (JSQ ->Grove St) walk to NY Waterway Ferry, M5 to SI Ferry to s74 was no problem.
  15. I'm from Staten Island and I'm probably going to do the CDL training in Queens or Brooklyn. Reason being, I want somewhat of a "controlled" "shock value" of being in an unfamiliar vehicle and being on unfamiliar streets. If I did it on Staten Island, I could probably drive with my eyes closed . I can't wait till we hear something!
  16. I have a gut feeling that they're going to finish the with the 2613 list in the late winter and start calling 4600 at about that time, maybe sooner, but thats purely my speculation.
  17. I'd like to do away with the s89 in its entirety and want the MTA to run weekday peak express bus service from Downtown Jersey City to Staten Island. Jersey City is still growing as a major employment center. If the MTA won't do it, perhaps NYC could partner with Academy to run buses this way, similar to the x23/x24 routes and accept Metrocards. As I've said previously, the (22 Hillside) 10 should have some trips beginning and ending at Forest & Richmond Avenue. Since the PANYNJ is running shuttle vans between Bayonne & Staten Island shows that service is warranted.
  18. Hello. Could you please link us to that post? Just Curious as I can't seem to find it. There are folks in the 1190's still waiting for their first D/T.. http://www.nyctransitforums.com/forums/topic/34980-bus-operator-exam-2613-questions/?p=775185 Still waiting to hear about the BOSS exam.. I'm holding off on using any of my vacation time and traveling until I take it until October then its either use it or lose it 'til year's end.
  19. According to Post #3441 on the 2613 thread, one contributor who's number is "119X" took a drug test on March 26. This is encouraging, that means there are a little more than 600 folks away from the half-way mark which had some type of interaction in the post-examination, hiring process.
  20. Maybe. If for some reason I can't do 4600, i'm seriously thinking about NJ Transit, they are working without a contract so maybe some new goodies will come through.. They are up to 500's on 2613. FYI.
  21. Congratulations Young! I hope to see you on the road in a year or so
  22. Congratulations to all that passed! I got only one wrong, so a 98.33% The question marked wrong was #13, where c was chosen incorrectly. This was the Saturday AM session. Are there any top scorers here? Or are they just being modest
  23. There is no residency requirement for this position. Your D/L or CDL must be valid in the State of New York for three years prior to appointment. So as long as you have driving privileges from any jurisdiction recognized in accordance with New York law, you should be good to go. At Yukon on Staten Island, there are B/O's from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. From the job announcement (which everyone should keep a copy): http://web.mta.info/nyct/hr/archives/pdf/4600.pdf
  24. All is well at the moment. Just playing the waiting game for the proposed answer key. Also, keeping an eye on the Atlantic Express to Academy transition on the x23/x24 routes on Staten Island. I'm also thinking about when the BOSS exam will come up. I'm taking a gamble on one weekend in April. If the BOSS exam comes up then, i'm just going to forfeit the flight (less than $100 bucks).
