  1. Just an FYI for everyone else going through the process:

Do NOT worry about direct deposit until after you qualify, discard (recycle, preferably) the form. My personal recommendation would be to Log into Business Service Center after General Information day and input in the information online. I received direct deposit on my third paycheck.

For those TA bus operators intending on going to Staten Island, if you go to Union Day at Transport Workers Union Local 100 headquarters in Brooklyn, my personal suggestion would be not to sign anything other than attendance paper (Regardless, I would personally advise to review your benefits plan with spouse/domestic partner/beneficiaries/pet rock before making decisions). Staten Island bus operators will have a different orientation with  Amalgamated Transit Union Local 726, there is even a credit union (Division 726 Federal Credit Union). Again a personal suggestion as there are some differences.

  2. So they dont check ur medical history is what ur tellin me correct?

Oh ok thanks for ur help...

This was answered in your PM. For others who are interested. There is no "central" database (except possibly for VA/Indian Affairs etc), due to federal privacy regulations, you would have to fill out a form for every doctor/practitioner/hospital to release that information to the TA medical team.

  3. Hey wass up everyone any one knows by any chance when u do ur medical with mta do they pull up ur medical records also? Or do they just go based on there procedure and results? Any help will be appreciate thanjs

There is "no" real centralized medical records.

While at 180 Livingston on Medical Day you will fill out an computerized questionnaire asking questions about your health. See Medical Examination Report of Driver Under Article 19-A  Section 2 for what they ask.

NOTE: The below was specific to my experience - yours might differ!

On that day you will report for medical you will wait in the area for pre-employment for about one hour, wait behind the initial reception area for another hour or so.  Then you'll be called into a smaller room, the TA's medical staff will be walking around randomly around you and call you into different rooms where you'll be tested for:

    - Hearing

    - Vision (I recommend getting a vision check before going into medical!)

    - EKG/Blood Pressure

    - Piss Quiz (for excess protein/excess sugar/blood)

Once all the above is finished, you'll wait outside in the area behind reception, there you will be called by the actual physician. Here you will be in a room similar to a traditional doctor office. There the physician will discuss your answers in the questionnaire (I did answer YES to two of the questions) physically examine you (you will be undressed except for undergarments - folks wear business casual clothing! suits and formal clothing are completely unnecessary). The doctor will do their checks and will clear you or will tell you what you need to do to get cleared (See Post 3773 for some information).

  4. How long does it take to receive uniforms?  Got measured for them the last week of November.

I got measured in the middle of November.

A week ago, I received a light jacket, sweater (both technically "fit", but feel "off") and a tie for almost every day of the week.

  5. Passed DMV I'm finally in officially

    sent from my note4

    Congratulations!!

Hey everyone just have a question I know the current contract expires in january if someone gets hired after the current contract expires if the mta hasnt signed a new contract will they be hired under the old contract or will they be hired and have to wait until mta signes a contract to know what they are entitled to if anyone can answer me ill appreciate it thanks..?

I would believe your Date of Appointment (Day Zero - Zerega) would determine this.

You just came in with the class that started line training last week? Where you training out of?

Yes, I'll send you a PM shortly.

Were you sent to SI or did you pick it?  How is it compared to the rest of the boroughs you drove in when qualifying?

Volunteered to Staten Island as I live there. I drove in Manhattan on a commuter / express coach bus before I joined the TA.

The main consideration is safely operating a bus while reading and dealing / "negotiating" with traffic and "knowing the bus you are in" as we have different methods of buses. There are a lot of two way, one lane roads on Staten Island = tight squeeze. Other operators have told me that Queens can be worse.

  6. I've yet to pick. Tomorrow is my our pick day. I believe only Manhattan is open for us. Not sure if that is true or not.

Please let us know what was available and if Staten Island and Queens was available (I am there already - SI).

Keep in mind we are in the system pick so wherever you go, you might be there for a short time and go/be forced somewhere else, I believe January 8.

  7.  You're welcome. Any feedback on the handouts? Just curious...

I found them helpful (Thank You!), but as a bus driver prior to joining MTA, I knew for the most part exactly what the handouts were talking about and actually doing them, the El pillars for example made those concepts "come alive". For those new to driving a bus, the concepts might not be so easy to digest strictly on paper.

When my Supt. told me to secure the bus and walked out the bus, made a call and turned to me and said, "welcome to the family, you've qualified", I broke down with joy and happiness , the cloud over me has broken and my life can come full swing.

    Congratulations Isael! :)

They dont do medical and final processing in the same day anymore. Now once you pass your medical you have to wait for them to contact you again to come back for final processing. At that point they will tell you to bring that 21 pg packet.

Lets see what happens with future candidates, maybe this is a "one-off".

  8. Do u have long on medical hold if u dont mind me askin.. is it hard to come off it?

Depends on the specific condition and individual.

If you are put on medical hold immediately seek medical evaluation/treatment and bring documentation acceptable to the MTA medical department (they will specify) as soon as possible. According to the documentation received (and which you will sign) on Medical/Final Processing Day (partial):

If the Medical Department was unable to complete your examination for any reason, you are considered to be on "Medical Hold."

You must clear this medical hold ASAP .... a position will not be held for you.

If you are not appointed to a NYCT position, your name will be removed from the list and you may request restoration to the list at the [NYC DCAS].

MaBSTOA and MTA Bus Company candidates who are not appointed should contact NYC Transit's Employment Center.

Common reasons for a medical hold are high blood pressure and vision issues.

  9. The people you train with are on the bus with you. In the order you start the qualifying course you find out in front of those same peopLe you trained with. Once you qualify you get off that bus and go train on the other type buses like Nova or RTS. Then the next person then tries to qualify and so on until all had a turn.

Here is the experience from the October 31 class:

If you qualify on Days 6 & 7 (typically a Wednesday & Thursday) you'll get sent to Jamaica on Day 8 for RTS training.

Those qualified on Day 9 (typically a Friday) join their classmates who passed on Days 6 & 7 in Harlem and they did RTS and Nova bus training that day.

Those who qualified on Days 6 and 7 or Day 9 went to Jamaica on Day 10 (typically a Monday). We went back to Zerega and picked up the Day 10 people who qualified. The Day 10 people who qualified did their RTS and Nova training at Zerega.

As for road tests, some of the people who qualified on both Days 6 & 7 did their DMV skills/road tests on Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. Those who qualified on Day 9, I believe did their skills/road tests Wednesday or Thursday. The remainder and Day 10 did their skills/road tests on Thursday.

All of the students who qualified on the October 31 class who wanted Staten Island got transferred to Staten Island. Nobody got to go to Queens (Casey-Stengel, Jamaica or Queens Village) and the depots available to pick were Jackie Gleason, Quill, Kingsbridge and Tuskegee and a few others .

  10. this is the latest from the class of 10/31/16 there r 64 students 4 of which just transfer to TA from mta bus or OA. 20 passed on day 7 and 12 passed on day 9 tomorrow is day 10 for the 28 that's left. good luck hope everyone make it.

So do I... Best of Luck! and see everyone else in Jamaica tomorrow.

so I'm guessing I won't be let in tomorrow without my paper. there goes my opportunity

    sent from my note4

Get there extremely early and hope for the best.

  11. Hi Everyone! I am happy to say that I qualified yesterday on Day 9 !

Congratulations sergio1221 and to everyone in the 10/31/2016 class that qualified on Day 7, 9 and who WILL qualify on Day 10. Don't be too nervous, call out everything and scan your mirrors.

Best advice for everybody going in on Monday:

    - Don't bring coffee/drinks/food into the classroom.

    - LISTEN to instructions.

    - Do NOT be late, on time is late - I planned to be an hour early to all my assignments and two days, I literally slid in with minutes to spare.

    - If you drove before, you have to drive the way your instructor wants - including mirror setups!

    - Do bring a copy of the pre-employment application (the 4 page form you initially got in the mail, if you didn't make a copy - don't worry, just write down the dates and places of employment for the past 3 years, dates/locations of accidents within the past three years and know dates of conviction of ALL convictions traffic and criminal. Bring this everyday until you qualify. You will be filling out multiple, redundant Article 19-A forms throughout the week.

    - Qualifying on Days 6&7, Day 9 or Day 10 is still QUALIFYING!

    - Support and encourage your co-workers on your bus!! You have a job waiting for you and so does everyone on your bus - this is not a competition! Give them feedback. Keep the positivity.

Just a note, the 10/31/2016 class had people from TA Exam 2613 in it, they get to pick before any of us 4600 folks.

  12. I have to go into my appointent, it says no restrictions on your license. I've had my CDL but only used it in the state of NY so I have A3 E and K restrictions. As per the DMV website, "The two restrictions together will verify to law enforcement and USDOT representatives that you are not required to have a USDOT Medical Examiner's Certificate and that your operation is limited to New York State only." I don't want to go there and be denied and miss the opportunity because of this.

If its an issue, will I be disqualified or will they just send me to get it done correctly if anyone can shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, maybe just my instance but I got the letter Friday evening for a Tuesday Morning Appointment. Make sure you have all your documents nearby and up to date on your prior address and job history because I'm still struggling to remember.

Don't worry about A3 or E. They may have something to say about the K restriction.

Likely scenario: When you show them your license, they'll tell you to go to DMV and remove it and either come back later in the day or the next day or two. My suggestion - get to 180 Livingston early.

FYI, There is a TA class on Monday October 31, 2016.

  13. Cool, I believe I have copies of that form from another city job that I had to reinstate myself on. It was blank when they faxed it to me so I made copies for future use.

I made a few clarifications on my post in case anyone else has the same question. I will amplify to anyone that you have to send letter.

I tried the fax option and it didn't work for me.

In any event, you can expect a 1-2 month wait once you get that confirmation letter from DCAS.

  14. What should I do if I want them to come back to my list number when I am ready?

    Simply disregard the letter.

I had to decline the first time.

When you are ready to reinstate call 1 212-699-1357 Option 2, listen to the instructions for renewal, mail a letter requesting reinstatement to the address mentioned in the phone message. Wait for letter in the mail from DCAS (you'll get this up to one week later) confirming your name has been reinstated..

This will take between 1-2 months for the MTA to send you another letter to come into pre-employment/drug test.

You will have two more chances to reinstate if for whatever reason you decline again or have some issue.

  15. So I am list #87* and I was originally called in August but I didn't have my permit. Came back in 3 days and they said processing stopped. Well I am here today at 180 livingston hoping to get in next training. The house is full and I heard there is a training on 10/31 and 11/14.

Cool. I got called in for a drug test/pre-employment on Tuesday and it was a very small group. My list number is less than 250 (I reinstated).  I await the e-mail to come on in for medical.

  16. I called the MTA employment center today and it looks like it's way too early for them to disclose any info on 6601. That, plus the female who answered the phone wasn't too big on customer service. Nothing has been established with 6601 as of yet. I'll see you guys here after Christmas. I'll be trying to survive with my shit job in the meantime.

It is way to early to expect any action on 6601.

The current Conductor list from Exam 8094 was extended to February 16, 2017. After the Conductor list terminates, then the Promotion Exam 5716, as of the last post in this thread Promotion to conductor 5716 they are still awaiting their list numbers. The TA has to go through all those candidates and close the promotional list before anyone from the open competitive exam gets called.

Also keep an eye on the MTA website MTA NYC Transit Conductor, Exam No. 6601

Keep in mind waits can be long, I got called for Bus Operator Exam 4600 in March 2016 and applied for that exam back in August 2013.

  17. Does any know if there will be an October class for sure?

Nobody but the TA would know for sure. Classes are held every two weeks, today a class started:

10/03 - This is an MaBSTOA (OA) / Bus Company (BC) class.

We need to watch the forums for activity (that is people receiving letters and what their experience is) my speculation on how it may play out:

10/17 - If any TA candidates are in it, likely they cleared medical holds or had some small issue to clear up. If new candidates or people who reinstated were to be placed in this class, people would receive letters this week then.

10/31 - If any TA candidates are in it, they would likely receive letters this week or next week. People who reinstated would likely get called first.

11/14 - If any TA candidates are in it, they would likely receive letters this week to three weeks out. People who reinstated would likely get called first.

  18. DCAS updated their system. Last eligible certified is list # 1973 and last list # appointed is 845

Great! Keep eyes on your mailboxes folks. Unless they really need bus operators - I think we can realistically expect the TA to hire for a 10/31 class.

    Congratulations dac9050!

  19. @161my wat happen Friday? Also what is your list number for 4105. Can't believe they stated calling after just establishing the list a week b4 I got a report letter

@161my can I tell us ur list number

I'm not on the 4105 list - I was following up with Ramsay who posted on both the 4600/4105 topics as I had some questions.

  20. Weekly Status Update

    Here is the weekly update.

    LIST UPDATES

Again, same information is being played on the DCAS line.

    RECENT FORUM ACTIVITY SUMMARY

Several NYCTF members have indicated on this topic that they received letters - however, they were for the 3101 and 4105 OA Lists.

Another two NYCTF members have stated they received letters - however and surprisingly there were from the 8094 Conductor list. For those new to the site, many people on the 8094 Conductor list have received letters inviting them for bus operator positions (this was back in the early 2010's).

    OTHER

We do not see any indication that there are any TA candidates in the 10/03 Class. This appears to be an OA class as of right now.

No one else has received letters since the very beginning of September/late August.

  21. I received a letter Saturday to report on Friday the 23rd for OA 4105. The ticket isn't in the system yet. I was going to fight it. So you don't think they would hire me. I haven't been convicted of anything as yet. Thank you for your answer NYC 161

You are welcome and Thank you for reply! On the application for they sent in the mail, they require you to list all pending violations. When I went back in March, they told me that everything has to be resolved before moving forward. Again, they allow you to have up to four points, but no more (defensive driving does not drop points off).

I would not try to hide anything from the TA.

The list was just established for the boss test on September 14.. well I'm 912..looks like I won't be driving anytime soon.

You would be surprised at how fast the list will move. The TA 4600 list was established in January, people were called in March and they are up to 850 in September. The person above this post just got a letter for 4105. Keep an eye on your mailbox. OA moves faster than TA because there are more depots.

    Good Luck to Everyone!
