  1. I received a speeding ticket last week. I was called for Mta bus driver position the other day. Would they hire me with a pending ticket over the speed limit by 14 miles?

Hi Ramsay - Did you get called for OA 3101, TA 4600 or did you receive a letter for OA 4105? What was your approximate list number (example 899 = 89X or (between 85X - 89X) ? When did you receive the letter to be called?

The answer to your question as I had started the process initially:

Will they hire you? No, they wanted all pending tickets/matters resolved.

If you have more than four points - then you won't be hired until those points go away. Defensive driving does NOT count towards MTA hiring purposes.

Obviously, please confirm with MTA as information is subject to change. They will let you know when you report for the drug test. If not, then you will have an opportunity to reinstate when points go away (if this is for TA) OA & BC may have a separate hiring process!

  2. I have a question. Received a speeding ticket with the radar gun 3 weeks ago. That's 14 miles over the speed limit. I'm gonna fight the ticket because that's 4 points. I'm have a interview with transit Monday will they still consider me for the bus driver position with the ticket pending?

@Ramsay What is your approximate list number and when did you get the letter?  Please Use 84X or "between 82X - 85X" (as an example). When I went they told me you have to have everything resolved. I believe you can have no more than four points - so if you want to resolve it then you should be OK.

@DueceDrives - This is for OA Bus Operator 3101 right?

  3. Question i had taken i pre-employment drug test and i am waiting on my result about 3 months ago i had on to California and starting experiencing pain from a surgery that i previous had and was prescribed medical marijuana for pain i should be clean by now but IF it were to show up would it blow my chance of employment ?

Your answer is in here. This was actually discussed with my previous employer during orientation as someone asked:

    https://www.transportation.gov/odapc/medical-marijuana-notice

  4. I got the same letter would assume about the Boss exam. I never took that test, and I'm already training. I'm starting Monday from exam 4600

    DAC9050 - Did you take Exam 8094?

Before a mass panic ensues and a little context - Many people from Conductor Exam 8094 were offered TA Bus Operator positions when TA Bus Operator exams 8006 and I think 2613 were active. If correct, I am shocked they are still doing this from an exam held in 2008!

Both DAC9050 and Far Rock Depot, did either of you take OA Bus Operator Exam 4105? We have official confirmation from +Young+ and the MTA that those numbers went out on Saturday.

  5. -------------------- WEEKLY STATUS UPDATE --------------------

The DCAS automated line has been updated as of September 18, 2016. However, we still hear the same partially incorrect information:

    Last Certified 1024 (may be true);
    Last Appointed 95 (false)

You may call the DCAS automated line and find it useful if you recently requested (in writing) to restore your name. If it went through, you will no longer hear the information to restore your name. DCAS will contact you by mail when you do this as well.

The number to call DCAS is 1 (212) 669-1357 (Option 2), the automated line is 24 hours - and is usually updated on Sundays. Only the MTA will know when people will get called.

Classes are typically held every two weeks. The next class begins Monday September 19, 2016.

According to forum activity, the last approximate list number to be invited to a class was 850. Nobody above this number has received the pre-employment package, to my knowledge.

    --------------------------------------------------

If anyone has been scheduled for an October class for TA 4600 please let us know!

Congratulations to everyone who has qualified - best of luck for everyone on Day 10!

  6. I spoke to a live agent at the employment number and my number is in the early 1000's

I'm so confused with what number they are up to with employment when I called earlier they said five and change and  when I just called employment just now they are saying 850 I don't know if its whoever answer the phone or what

Thanks for the information! 850 looks like a more realistic number based on the forum activity.

Keep an eye on your mailbox, we should be in the next round of invite letters. My list number is below 200 - I reinstated.

  7. I understand that but as per this forum there were people who successfully completed training but the employment line is saying only 567 hired

What is your approximate list number? (Example: 9XX or 10XX)).

I called DCAS automated line a few moments ago, where are you getting this 567 number - a live agent?

As of September 11, 2016 They are still giving me 95 appointed /1024 certified - since forever. (We know this is incorrect)

    Please let us know.

  8. i was on medical hold i went in to Livingston to clear it. then i call back the next business day. i got connected to a nice lady who does the hiring for 4600 that's when she told me that i need to go down to 1 center st to put my self back on the list. r u sure ur back on the list 161newyork? i would double check by calling Livingston a month seems long after u got reinstated since they still hiring.

Yes, I called DCAS - they explicitly said that I was "removed from the list" for the period. Then when I got a letter from DCAS, I called back and everything sounded ok. Keep in mind I was called back in the first round of letters for this list. Maybe TA worked with you if you cleared your medical hold quickly. If I see people getting letters and I do not get one, then I will be concerned and will follow-up.

  9. hey everyone it seems that the list is moving pretty quick that's good we just need to be prepared.. QUICK QUESTION HAS ANYONE WITH A LIST NUMBER OVER 1000 RECEIVED PRE EMPLOYMENT LETTERS YET OR THEY STILL HAVENT STARTED SENDING LETTER  TO THOSE NUMBER YET? I SEE THAT GUYS IN THE 800'S ARE ALREADY GOING TO BEGIN THE TRAINING SO THATS WHY I ASK ANYONE HAS ANY INFO THEY CAN SHARE PLZ.. DID THEY SENT LETTERS TO THE LOW 1000'S ALREADY?

Hopefully soon. I restored my name more than a month ago (list number below 200) - Still haven't heard anything. If the TA queries the list from DCAS - maybe the next "block" of names will be called in 100/200/250/500 increment ( that is 25, 80, 111, 242, 393, 850, 851 etc.) for pre-employment.  What is your list number - use 10XX format to give you some form of anonymity.

  10. The s56 is fine the way it is now.

There is no need to reroute it from it's segment from Arden Avenue. The area from Woodrow Rd/Arden Avenue to SI Mall is where the bulk of the ridership is outside of school days in addition to the Hylan/Seguine + Princes Bay SIR station. What would be needed is to extend service until 8-9pm. (Weekends would be nice too!)

In order to serve College of Staten Island students an easy fix that should have been done the opening of the Eltingville Transit Center would be to extend the s61 there. I'd also discontinue to loop around the depot unless a switch out is needed between BO's.

The s73 does not appear to be needed. The s74 works fine between Bricktown Mall and Eltingville Transit Center. It also now has half hourly service round the clock.

I use the s56 and s74 frequently as they are in my neighborhood.

  11. Mine and Invzo's class had list numbers ranging from 140-300+ if that helps anyone...

Thanks. I do appreciate it. This list is going fast, particularly if they were going to place candidates in the 800's in this month's class.

  12. Congrats!! So I went back today as told with pemit and was told they stopped processing. Now I have to wait to be called again when someone fails the processing or other operators move up or retire or die, their exact words

Did they specifically tell you whether you had to write to DCAS to restore your name?

I ask because based on what you told us "wait to be called again", MTA might report to DCAS that you missed the interview and you have to go through the restoration process. Then once the next group comes you would have to wait until candidates who have put themselves back on the list get considered first. Example List Numbers 50, 101, 202, 500, 790, 850, 851, 852 - then following through).

Keep that in mind. You can call (212) 669-1357 + Option 2 and hear your status - which is updated throughout the month. The automated system will specifically tell you (when updated) if you have been removed from the list, whether you can restore your name (or not).

    Congratulations to everyone who qualified!

  13. Hey i know this is off topic but what are the twu-100 depots??

Direct from the TWU 100 website:

OA: Tuskeegee Depot, Kingsbridge Depot, Manhattanville Depot, Michael J. Quill Depot, Mother Clara Hale Depot, West Farms Depot, Gunhill Depot, Zerega CMF (Central Maintenance Facility) [Source]

TA: East New York, Flatbush Depot, Fresh Pond, Grand Avenue, Jackie Gleason Depot, Ulmer Park Depot [Source]
  14. So, there is MTA qualifying, then a DMV road test? As I understand the process, it's get CDL permit->pass MTA training->get CDL license->. And if you get the license before training, better for you; but you still need to pass MTA training, correct?

If you have a NYS CDL permit, you must pass both MTA qualification/training, then pass the NYS DMV skills/road test. Once the NYS DMV skills/road test is passed you will be hired by the MTA.

When you have a CDL license you simply have to successfully pass the MTA qualification/training program to be hired permanently.

  15. I personally have an issue with the 3-5 that i have to get over. In my experience it simply isnt enough time, i count it out n by the time i look left for 5 secs then front then 5 secs later right somehow i cant seem to focus on the front. That issue is minimal, the running of the yellow light and if anyone can, explain pivot points in some detail please.

Checking mirrors 3-5 seconds: It takes practice, but it can be done. Turn off music and don't talk to people.

Yellow lights: It depends, obviously keep an eye on the countdown clocks on both sides of the intersection. If the green light is "stale", don't push it.

Pivot points: I'll try to explain it as I understand it. I drive 45' buses almost exclusively (but once in a while I've taken a 40' MCI D4000 somewhere). On a MCI D4500 the pivot point between the dual rear tires. You pivot around objects, curbs etc.

    nly0kw.jpg

Look at this bus going up the ramp at the PABT. The bus operator positions his bus so that the tires do not mount the curb. Again, the pivot point on the D4500 would be midpoint the rear tires. For folks new to driving a bus, you have to remember that your front tires are behind you - this helps, or really is essential in angling the bus in such a situation like this.

  16. Thanks for the response. I understand, we all have certain hurdles to get through, such as myself.

All we can do now is pray that everything works out in our favor..

    Anytime.

If you haven't already, get some lessons.

If you drive a car everyday, start checking your mirrors every 3-5 seconds with two hands on the wheel using push-pull. Make your turns, cross checking your mirrors and for example you are making a right turn be sure to know your pivot points.

Get vision checks everyone! Don't wait until the TA docs tell you that you need glasses before you start driving a bus! If you need glasses for driving start driving with them on! It will take a week or two to get used to. Make sure you get a spare pair or two. Get the cheapest pairs you can get - this isn't a fashion show unless you have the money to spend!

  17. As of today, according to DCAS, the last eligible certified is list # 1024. With my list # in the 1700s, what's an educated guess before they reach me. Am I looking at about 6-12 more months?

It has been like this for quite some time. They are going to start catching up with people like me who re-instated their names on the list or who cleared medical holds and fixed license problems. My list number less than 150 - not sure if they are going to take me though (keeping this private for now)...

Maybe 6 months may be realistic in your case.

  18.

Not to criticize you in any way, however you physically have to go to DCAS to get your name reinstated? Cause a good friend of mine told me that he just wrote a letter to DCAS, mailed it, and then a month or two later, his name got reinstated...interesting.

Everyone - You can mail, follow instructions as per DCAS main automated telephone number 1 (212) 669-1357 Option 2. I know this from personal experience. It will take 1-2 weeks to receive a confirmation letter from DCAS.

The fax option did not work for me. FYI.

  19. Only 55 out of 200 passed in my class, it's not as easy as some might think.

Quick question, why do people hide their list number? Ive seen people post "my list number is 12xx" any particular reason?

Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

Just out of curiosity, when was your class? A class of 200 seems like alot, especially, as I understand it 4-5 candidates are put on a bus and would suggest there were 40-50 training buses on the road during a two-week period.

  20. The license shouldn't have any restrictions except the a3 restriction.

Per multiple prior posts, the A3 is fine. If you were to remove this restriction, you will have to see a US DOT medical examiner and get a physical completed. If you intend to work for another bus/trucking company while you wait to be called, you will have to get this A3 removed and have a physical completed.

If you successfully passed the CDL skill/road test on and after June 2015 you will receive the "E" restriction, "E - No Manual Transmission Equipped CMV" unless you took your road test on a Class B vehicle with a manual transmission.

  21. In your opinion, what is the difference, if there is any, between a rear engine school bus and a transit/coach bus?

There should be no difference in principle. The turning radius for each vehicle will be different for every make make/model and even model year. It is important to know what vehicle you are in, "getting the big picture" and know how to set your turns up.

In Woodbridge, NJ, I thought I saw a rear-engine school bus (or possibly the bus was just there at that time) that was used for CDL training. However, I think that the new federal regulations might not allow anyone with a NY Commercial Learners' Permit (CLP) to enroll in an out-of-state training school. If I see that bus again, I will let the NYCTF community know what company it was with.

congrats. whats ur list no mastap? any idea when will they send out 2nd wave of employment letters for 200 and above?

They are still working with the first 200 candidates. I am in the first 200, however, I will wait until possibly the end of the year to reinstate (though I haven't made any formal (written) statement to that affect and not sure how that exactly works).  Apparently, they are still working with the candidates in the TA Bus Operator Exam 2613 Questions . If section above the topics is accurate (updated monthly), then the last candidate for TA Bus Operator Exam List # 2613 appointed is 3,371 and the last certified is 3,621. From my understanding, no-one from Exam 4600 may be hired until Exam 2613 is closed. Per the information in multiple posts from other candidates who went to Zerega for OA Bus Operator Exam List # 3101, very few TA candidates were apart of the overall bus operator class with candidates from all three divisions BC, OA and TA.
