  1. you got a couple of great instructors. You should do just fine. Best of luck to you, remember get your rest, pay attention and read that rule book. The one piece of constant advice that i have gotten, know your job! Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 2
  2. everything said is 100% on the money. I been on the 3 for the past week. The most important thing like he said, when you grab a break, hold it. Whatever you do, do not let it all out. If you do, you won't get it back in time and that 10 car marker will go flying by you. By your 3rd or 4th stop you should know what you got and be able to adjust. Most of them are actually pretty good, just need to get used to it. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 2
  3. Haha i figured that. I'm working the 3 line this week and I'm actually enjoying it. I think I'm liking the smee's better. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 2
  4. Its those things attached to the end of your arms I think he means a non new tech train. Aka smee equipment. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 2
  5. i got stuck at 96 for 2 and a half hours because of that 12-9. They cut the power and we had to sit there. Then sill had to go down to NL. I got to take that train lite back up to 148, that was fun.
  6. i hope they weren't all from my class. I know of one where the mc slipped out of his hand. What were the others?
  7. not sure anyone can answer that yet. This its something new that school car is doing. I suspect since you have to post at every yard, you will be bounced around from yard to yard during the 3 months. A word of advice, while working in the yards, don't pick up any bad habits from some of the old timers. It will eventually get you into trouble. Do things the schoolcar way and you'll be fine. 8. words to live by! Believe me i had no plans on complaining. They pay me to do a job so i do it when and where they tell me to. Besides it could always be worst. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 2
  9. we are off to the road. They put us on a job with another train operator for one more week. I can tell you one thing that wishlist they gave us is a bunch of crap. The only shift i didn't want, they gave me. The plus side is they gave me the highest paying job in the class with plenty of waa. I guess the breaks even out. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 2
  10. i spoke to the school car tss yesterday. There will be classes the rest of the year however as of today they don't have any dates scheduled. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 2
  11. Road practical yesterday. They changed the location on us from new lots to 242. There was much rejoicing! Happy to report my entire class passed, 10 strong. The supernatant was pretty strick but he let you know right off the bat what will fail you immediately. My first stop was a little short. After that my stops and operation were perfect. Project straight talk tomorrow then we are at the mercy of the crew office. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 2
  12. third rail jumpers are no big deal. I felt totally safe doing it. Funny thing is you do it in school car and then most likely will never have to do it again. They'll use a rescue train before using the jumpers. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 2
  13. A Div guys had our final today. It was a much harder test than our midterm. You really need to know your rules, they try to trip you up quite a bit on this one. Thankfully everyone passed. Road practical next week. We found out today the school car director is not giving it, going to be another super. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 2
  14. No one from my class, we are back in school this week. Final on Thursday and road practical next tuesday. Then they throw us to the wolves. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 2
  15. The November induction class was all people off the open competitive list. There were a couple of bus drivers and i think 2 conductors in the class but they all came from the open list not the promo list. I remember very clearly the first day when the tss asked who came off the promo list, no one raised their hands. Sent from my LG-MS770 using Tapatalk 2
  16. A div is actually 4 1/2 months not 3. Back in the day you had to work the yard for a year before they sent you down the road. 3 months is not that bad. This is a good thing, gives you a chance to really learn the equipment and eats up some more of your probation time. 3 months will fly. You got the next 25 years at least to pound the road.
  17. I i posted with a guy who had a year and a half in motors last week. He was able to pick while on probation. I have a feeling the same is going to happen to us guys coming out of school car now.
  18. drug test is a letter, second visit for the medical is a call
  19. Another 12-9 today at 86. Messed up the 3 and the 1 pretty good. I was still able to get 2 trips in on the 3, fighting those r62s the whole time. Midnights next week
  20. I was also there that day. Very interesting conversations, got a new perspective of the job. I also learned a good partner is like gold.
  21. congrats! We did group switching today mostly in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. R62 road day tomorrow then road poasting on tuesday for 3 weeks. Finally get to operate with customers... WooHoo!!!
  22. The word from a school car tss is they are going to have a class every month through the end of the year. Apparently they need to hire something like 330 train operators. I also heard some crazy figure, Apparently 70% of train operators are eligible for retirement right now. Not sure How true that it, sound nuts to me. you'll get A letter in the mail with the form to fill out for your first trip down there for the drug test. The letter will have everything you need to know, no need to type up anything. The second time around you'll get a phone call telling you when to report for your medical.
  23. I believe on your first trip down there, they want your ss card, hs diploma, and 10 years of work history. The second trip you bring back a 21 page book filled out that's given to you on your first trip. In that they want your work history going back to high school. Make sure all that info you give them is extremely accurate. They don't like folks who lie and they will find out and they will pull you out of school car and fire you. Also, as its been said many times before, make sure your medical is in order.

Failed a test? <br /> PS, how do I set up direct deposit? While in school car, will our checks come here or to our station we chose during picks?</p></blockquote> Once you get access to the bsc website, you can set up your direct deposit there. Until then your check will be at your pay location that you picked.
  25. <blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="poughkipsee" data-cid="638842" data-time="1359526491"><p> Wonder if anyone from here was on that schoolcar train that was at Van Cortlandt about 15 min ago, just before 1am. They got kicked out quickly</p></blockquote> Yea that was us, ta-19. We had to get out quick. Needed to make it down to NLY for our 3am clear. We just made it too. Work gangs everywhere slowed us up. Those r62's out of NLY got to be the worst in the system. Those breaks have a mind of there own. R62A tomorrow, can't wait.
