  1. Instead of wasting a ton of money on giving the (T) it's own line in Downtown Manhattan, only for it to end there, why not route it through the only 4 tracked line in the system to run 10TPH?

I propose running the (T) through the Nassau Street Line from Bowery to Broad Street, and then continuing through Montague and the 4th Ave Local (The (R) doesn't share tracks through Dekalb, and only runs on 10TPH, so it can work) up to 4th Ave-9th Sts, where it will continue to 15th Street, where it will branch off in time to clear Prospect Avenue Station, and run under Prospect Parkway to a new station between 5th and 6th Avenues, where the train will terminate, without interfering with other trains. Since it's being built on a city owned ROW, tail tracks could easily be added.
This would require a reconfiguration of the Nassau Line tracks (shown here (with a street overlay of the Bowery-Chrystie connection here)) and ideally an extension of the platforms, but is not required. The separate station at Prospect could also be cut, but that would require running the trains to Bay Ridge, which seems like vastly overserving it unless you cut all ®'s to Whitehall. This would also mean being forced to use 60ft'ers on the (T), but it seems like a small price to pay for getting the (T) to Brooklyn while still saving money over the original plan.

  2. The 63 Street tunnels must be closed to do repairs need to be done to the tunnels after hurricane Pad. This will take at least a year to fix.

    Reroute!

    During rush hours:

    M To 57th St

F Via 53rd St and QBL

J Extra service to encourage passengers to take it over the E so that there's more room for the overflow F passengers

Other times, normal service except the (F) still goes via 53rd St.

    And now:

A sinkhole develops on 34th Street between Madison and 5th Avenue, exactly halfway between the Lexington and Broadway/6th Avenue Lines.  This is growing and there are enough concerns to close the Lexington line & Broadway/6th Avenue lines until this is fixed.

This is during AM rush hour and is expected to take almost a week to stabilize and make it so service can resume.

    From Brooklyn:

Send as many 5's as possible via the 2, just cancel the rest

    4 to Bowling Green

    J Z Replaces R

M Replaces B Q (Runs via local to CI)

    N Suspended

D Every other train via Sea Beach; Runs to West 4th

    F To West 4th

    From Queens/Bronx:

Send as many 5's as possible via the 2, just turn the rest at E 180

    4 To 86th St

    6 To 86th St

    N Q To 57th St

    R Suspended

    F To 57th St

    M To 57th St, Via 63rd

    B Suspended

D Via Concourse Local, To 59th St

    In both directions;

    A Delays

F Some trains run via the G

G Is suspended as a result

And as you can imagine, run as many shuttle buses as you possibly can

A regular weekend G.O. has closed the entire Jerome Avenue, (except 138 St-Grand Concourse) and Nostrand Avenue lines, as well as Harlem-148 St and 145 St stations.

Therefore, I'm looking for a simple reroute/suspension, which has been on my mind for a while now. What do you do?

2 To New Lots Ave; Extra trains

5 To Crown Heights-Utica Ave (During late nights as well); Extra trains

    3 Suspended

    4 Suspended

  3. Very nice proposal, LTA, however there are two things that caught my eye, that I would like to point out.

Your first avenue line goes straight through tudor city, which is landmarked, so IIRC you can't build that there. Also, I may have missed something here, but why build a new line a block away from an exsisting one instead of just using it's structure?

  4. I'm just going to list all of the NYC transit announcers. That way, we don't get ten questions of "Who does the announcements on X line?"

    Annie Bergen: (7), (S) -42nd St

Kathleen Campion: (A)(C)(F)(S) - Rockaway Park, Franklin Ave

    Catherine Cowdery: (B)(D)(E)(G)(J)(L)(M)(N)(Q)(R)(V)(W)(Z)

    Jessica Ettinger: (4)(5)(6)

Carolyn Hopkins: Flushing, B-Division next train arrivals

Charlie Pellett: "Stand Clear of the Closing Doors", other PSAs

    Dianne Thompson: (1)(2)(3)

Bernie Wagenblast: A-Division next train arrivals

With the exception of Bergen, each of the on-board announcers' voices pop up on other lines in random spots.

Speaking of, why did they get rid of the Annie Bergen announcements?

  5. Breaking TA rules? Please... Funny how you think it's "harassment" if a B/O turns around and starts taking photos of you when you initiate the harassment, but you can snap photos of the B/O when they clearly don't want photos taken of them and then yell harassment, as if they don't have a right to be left alone in peace. Talk about double standards... Way to justify selfish behavior.

And if the shoe was on the other foot and you didn't want your photo taken, you would find any reason to justify that. What a surprise. Kudos to the B/O for exercising his right to be left alone in peace.

He was referring to the fact that he took out his phone wile driving which is against regulation

OK Mr. G so you're ok with the op breaking the TA rules to get his phone out to start harassing the guy taking pictures? Or how about the driver stopping short and jumping out of an in service bus to demand they delete the picture? (that's happened to me in NJ a few times)

I'm in public and I'm gonna take pictures of what I want. I'm not trying to take a picture of the op anyways and if he thinks so there's not much he can do anyways, it's public. I can walk through Times Square and expect to end up in some tourist's pictures even though they're not trying to take my picture.

Unless it's a special find, or you went out for an hour+ just to get that one, why not just let them be? Yeah, I don't like it when drivers are rude about it, but in a lot of places it's still considered weird, and people don't know about the hobby. Personally, I think it gives a better impression to all of those drivers if we just stop when they ask. Most of the drivers up here have never heard of such a thing, but when they tell me to stop, I do, and explain why I was doing it, and it generally works out better between me and the drivers, and it helps alot whenever I need to get CDTA involved. And not just here, I do it for other agencies too.

  6. only saw them once in person. It was on the Bx12 SBS and they all invaded the bus and shook the passengers down so to speak. but that was the only time i ever saw them

    That sounds horrifying.

And I've never seen one of them, literally ever

Even one of the first days of operation on the BX12SBS, the op kept saying that one was coming on, then sure enough we got to 207th and they never came

  7. Few questions here

Is Meredith a senior depot or a rookie depot?

Are it's trips on the 10,11, and 14 the ones that do one then are off until the afternoon, or the ones that start at 5-6 and do 2 trips? Does it vary? If so, why are the specific runs out of there, from there? After all castleton does a share of the 12.

Do their buses also use quill?

Is there a shuttle they run from quill back to the depot? (They do that with Yonkers, I think?)

How often do they mess with the routes out of there?

I'm assuming it's the smallest in terms of runs since it's rush hour only?

On holidays, do the drivers get sent to other depots, or do they just get the day off? Same question also applies with Charleston, assuming they're closed on holidays too

    General question

Does transferring from an ATU depot to a TWU depot in NYCT effect benefits, seniority, etc?

If so, is your union determined by the first depot you do, or is it determined at hiring?

  8. The new Gilligs we are getting (the ones that are replacing the LFS's, not the NABI's, 4114+, the bus I was on was 4128 so quite a few are gone) have a different seating layout then the other 40' Gilligs in the fleet, with the seats on the front half of the bus being spread out for much more legroom (yay for tall people) and the wheelchair space now only takes up the front bench and not the row of seats behind it as well. I don't have any pictures as I haven't gotten used to the commute yet, so until then i'm not bringing my cameras.

Oh, also related, I haven't seen a 30XX LFS in a while, so i'm pretty sure those are all gone, at the very least the schenectady ones are, cause the BRT's and 30's are making appearances on predominantly LFS routes, and we also have quite a few hybrids from Albany now. (Which are running on the 351 now instead of the BRT's ) When i'm in Albany, I still see a decent number of LFS's though, so if you wanna see em, that's the place to be, and I think most of the LFS's are from '00, so we should have until next year for those.

  9. What I would do myself:

    Rush hours:

    (F) between two sections: Jamaica 179th to 2 Av, Coney Island to Jay St using York St crossover to turn trains

    (F) Bus runs between 2 Av and Jay St via Houston, Essex, Canal, Manhattan Bridge, and Flatbush Avenue

    (M) Alternating trains from Brooklyn run to Chambers, Metropolitan Ave bound (M) trains bypass Essex

(J)(Z): Give passengers a voucher to ride B39 for free from Marcy Av to Essex St. Place additional buses on B39, including LFSAs

    Nonpeak

    (F) Jamaica 179th to Coney Island via Cranberry (A)(C)

    rest would be the same

???? If nonpeak is a weekend, you have to put the (M) somewhere else, because it certainly can't turn around at Essex

Also why does the (M) go to Chambers during the week?

  10. Situation: Stalled (F) train on the Brooklyn bound track due to track fire. Because of the ongoing evacuation and FDNY activity, the Queens bound track is not usable to terminate trains coming from Brooklyn. (J)(M)(Z) trains must bypass Essex St as well.

    Weekend:

    (F) Via (A)(C)

    (M) To Chambers St

(M)'s do not abide by their schedule, with trains spending the larger percentage of layover time at Metropolitan

    High frequency time:

    (F) No service 2nd Ave-York Ave, w/ shuttle buses replacing service

  11. The NCAA championships are taking place in Madison Sq. Garden tonight. Plan for the extra crowds!!!

    Run the (C) until 1.

The (E) will run on rush hour headways until 12:30. The extra trains will go to 179th St.

The (3) runs to New Lots until 1.

The (2) and (3) will run at their rush hour headways until 12:30.

The (1) will runs every 6 minutes until 12:30.

  12. All at once...

A train derails at 14th St making all of the 8th Ave Line unusable there, while simultaneously, Rutgers is flooding, and there's a stalled train switching between the manhattan bridge northbound tracks. (This means only the Dekalb local track can be used, and ONLY to 6th Ave)

    Go :)

  13. I saw on the CPTDB Wiki that there are two order for Gillig 40' buses (4 HEV and 16 clean diesel) due for October 2013. Have they been delivered and what fleet numbers do they carry? I'm thinking of doing the 4-plus hour drive down from Montreal to Albany for a day of fanning there maybe this summer. Last time I was there, it was for a snack stop and quick walk back in '96 on my way to Cooperstown.

    Thanks. :)

They are all delivered and in service in Albany. (4093-4113)
