  1. Next: There is a sinkhole from 33 to 38 streets from Lexington to 7 th Avenue, Reroute everything, even buses

Okay, I don't feel like doing the buses...But trains:

    (B) Coney Island - W 4 St

    (D) runs in two sections; 205 St - 2 Av (F) station via 8 Av local, Coney Island - W 4 St

    (F) runs in two sections; Jamaica-179 St - 47-50 Sts, Coney Island - Delancey St

    (M) runs via 8 Av local

    (E) runs via 8 Av express

    (1) 242 St - 96 St; trains skip 103 St, 110 St, 116 St, and 125 St.

    (2) 241 St - 96 St

    (3) 148 St - 96 St

    (1) single-track shuttle trains run between 96 St and 59 St-Columbus Circle (for transfer to (A)(C)(D))

    (4) runs in two sections; New Lots Av - Brooklyn Bridge, local between Utica Av and Atlantic Av, Woodlawn - Grand Central-42 St (uptown trains run local from Grand Central-42 St to 125 St)

    (5) Dyre Av - 125 St

    (6) Pelham Bay Park - Grand Central-42 St

    (N) runs in two sections; Coney Island - Atlantic Av, Astoria-Ditmars Blvd - 57 St/7 Av

    (Q) suspended

    (R) runs in two sections; 95 St - Whitehall St, 71 Av - 57 St/7 Av

    (N) special single-track shuttle trains run between Canal St and 28 St

    Whew! That was hard.

  2. 2. At Bowling Green, the train said "transfer is available to the 4 train" as if it were terminating at BG; I guess the explanation for that is that they did not update the announcements after they began sending the (5) to Brooklyn during midday hours a few years ago. But even weirder was that Dianne Thompson's voice was saying "transfer is available to the 4 train!" It was the same announcement that the (2) makes at Nevins Street when the (5) is not running to Brooklyn and is probably the same one made at 149 St-Concourse during overnight hours when the latter is not running south of E 180 St. Although some Manhattan-bound (2) trains have Charlie Pellett's voice say "transfer is available to the 3 and 4 trains" at Nevins Street even though the (3) was already announced at Franklin.
I've noticed that Brooklyn-bound (5) trains always announce the (4) at Bowling Green...I was quite surprised the first time I heard it...

    Anyway, here's my random thought:

Isn't this R62 (4) train making a really weird noise? I've been wondering about this for a while...(Go to 00:40 in the video)

Kind of like a jet engine. Well, this video's pretty old. Did all R62s used to make that sound?

  3. A slight bend that obscures vision. And between Christopher St and 14st is the location in question, not the station itself.

I see. I still think it should be at least GT35...I'm pretty sure that those timers clear at 25-30 MPH. Are there a lot of visibility-related timers (I sadly think of W 4 St n/b on the (A) in our near future)?
  4. In the good 'ol days pre 2009 as far as I remember from '97 or '98 to 2009 the trains to ride were the R-32,38,40S/M for the B division IMO they could all hit mid to upper 50's even 60+ in those hot spots along the (B)(D)(A)(F)(N) as far as I remember.

50 is sometimes possible in those areas, but definitely not 60 MPH...

In any case, the answer to my quiz was the (3) train, going at 42 MPH. The (D) train went 40-41 MPH. Still, it's close. I thought I could trick you guys into thinking that the (3) was much faster, as shorter cars generally look faster (because each car, each window, and each door pass you more quickly). That's part of why people think that 75-footers are so slow...

Okay, here's the next SPEEDy video for you guys:

  5. BTW, in the IRT pic the trains don't reach their top speed until they've actually enterred the curve as it is slightly uphill until they enter Houston than race downhill (and its still amazing how TA never timed the curve).

Yeah, that's one of my favorite express runs, with that "surge" of speed going down the hill...I don't see why they would ever want to put in timers, as it's only 40 or so MPH. What I really don't understand is the timers at Christopher St...
  6. Because of the (6) running in two sections, all (6) trains running between Brooklyn Bridge and 149th St - Grand Concourse are using Jerome Yard sets, which means R142s and R142s from the (4) are running on the (6).

    FOAMFOAMFOAM!!!

No, seriously, I hope someone gets some videos of that...

  7. The R40. All the way. But then again, you have to consider that the T/Os must have to follow the speed limit, so they could both be going at the same speed. But if I had to say, the R40.

    I guess 29MPH for the R40 and 31MPH for the R68A

Okay, the answer is that they're both going at the same speed, 30 MPH.

    Here's another one:

    Which train is going faster:

  8. (B) via the (F) to Kings Highway.

    (D) via Prospect Park Express, Culver Local (w' peak-direction express), to Coney Island-Stillwell Ave.

    (E) Runs local east of 71 Ave.

    (F) To Church Avenue. Some trains are extended to Kings Highway.

    (N) Terminates at Whitehall Street, or *Times Square-42 Street via the (R). Some trains run via the (R) to Forest Hills-71 Ave. (* via Broadway Express)

    (Q) Terminates at Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center, or *Canal Street (* via the (R)) Some trains run via Queens Bl Express to Forest Hills-71 Ave.

    (R) Terminates at Jay Street-Metrotech.

    (S) Suspended.

    Short list:

    Queens Bl Exp: (E)(F)(Q)

    Queens Bl Lcl: (M)(N)(R)

    Prospect Park Exp: (D)

    Prospect Park Lcl: (B)(F)(G)

    NOTE:

    [F] Uses the Jamaica Yard.

[N] [Q] Uses the Queens Bl express tracks (east of 71 Av) to layup.

[Q] Uses the City Hall layup tracks.

That was hard, but I'm sure there's more mistakes in there! Correct me if I'm wrong! ;)

The one problem is that the Culver Line from Ditmas Av to Coney Island is a BMT line.
  9. (B) 205 St to Pacific St (Grand CC/CPW/6 Av/4 Av Express)

    (D) 36 St to Coney Island (West End Local)

    (N) 59 St to Coney Island (Sea Beach Local)

    (Q) Prospect Park to Coney Island (Brighton Local)

    (R) 71 Av to Lawrence St (Queens Blvd/Broadway Local)

    (S) Pacific St to 95 St (4 Av Local)

    (S) Astoria Ditmars to 34 St (Broadway Express/Astoria Local)

    NOTE

    (B) Skips DeKalb Av.

Shuttle Buses replace Sea Beach Service.

    (S) 4 Av Single tracked Shuttles. Trains leave every 10 mins from terminals.

I think you misunderstood my post; ALL BMT lines south of Atlantic can't be used:

NEXT: all BMT lines in Brooklyn are unusable south of Atlantic Av. Atlantic Av station can be used. RULES: no trains can exit service to go to yards located in unusable areas, which means that some routes cannot be suspended/have their TPH reduced. The yards can still be used for storage; trains just can't access them.

  10. (N): Whitehall Street-Astoria, via Local

(Q): Pacific Street-57th Street, via Express & Tunnel.

    (R): Suspended.

    (B): Suspended.

    (D): 2nd Avenue-205th Street via Local

Assuming this includes the Culver EL & Franklin Shuttle:

    (F): Terminates at Church Avenue.

(S): Terminates at Botanic Garden, single tracking.

Where are you going to put the (B) trains that aren't in service?
