  1. ^^ Are you sure that was a banana peel you slipped on and not a hot fetid, stink steamy pile of...
  2. Its been disputed here many times but I will reiterate the fact that there is a provision there for a station if the needs arises for it in the future. They didnt necessarily build a station shell as they should have (limited on funds), but they built the benchwalls in that area as such as it will allow for fast cut and cover construction.
  3. I figured thats what you meant so I just took that as a typo. It happens.
  4. Well the big problem is how to retain service when the Hudson tubes will need to be shut down for major reconstruction due to saltwater corrosion damage? Standard IRT cars cannot handle the capacity of commuters coming from NJT or Amtrak. But its also about money... NJ politicians have already dropped the 7 to Secaucus idea which was reconsidered after the MTA laughed hard at Bloombergs proposal. The MTA with good reason refuses to get involved after Christie caused NJT to lose millions of dollars when he diverted funding from the original ARC project in order to address these needs effectively killing the project. Therefore the MTA heads watching this do not want to get involved ion a project which carries a huge amount of monetary liability along with it (In other words: Getting ripped off by New Jersey give their history as of late). Now they seem to be directing towards a complete activation of the building of the Gatway tubes. They better hurry up with this because the Hudson tubes will not last even 30 years according to Amtrak.
  5. Yeah but the only thing is that a mistake on the part of the train crew would not in itself call for a barring of an entire fleet of cars from opening its doors on the outer loop. R142s can handle the sharp radial curve. So while I am not doubting at all the incident that has occured, it happens, there might be a bit more to this.
  6. Well I take no pleasure in announcing this but the reason I was completely absent from the forums for a week was because someone broke into my apartment last week while I was not home. Took everything except one of my laptops and my stereo. Yep they got my camera also. At one point I was in tears, all my shit I've worked so hard for -- gone! The NYPD cannot track it down with the receipts off the serial numbers because the burglers sold it off on the black market and its nowhere to be found. Good news is: 1) One guy was caught and charged with one count of felony grand larceny and one count of credit card fraud. The NYPD detectives caught him off security cams from another apartment. Hes doing time in Rikers until the trial date comes. His bail was set at 20,000 dollars so he isnt going nowhere. Dont feel sorry for the punk one bit. Apparently he is a junkie who is hooked on pills and heroin I was told by cops. 2) All my cash assets are intact. He couldnt do anything with my bank cards, luckily the bank I work with locked my account as soon as they saw what was going on. That evidence puts the man at two felony counts, not one. 3) I'm working while going to school, so I will be tight financially but I anticipate that I will recover financially by January. With a new DSLR. That said I am thinking about moving out of the neighborhood. Seems crime is on the rise here and I am not in the mood to become a target for criminals. As it is it seems I am in the middle of a robbery spree of crimes in my area. So Im leaving by the end of this month. I am considering moving back into the Bronx.
  7. The challenge is its construction. There will be alot of utility relocation necessary. We already have a huge network of subway lines in Lower Manhattan which will prove to be incredibly difficult for engineers even with TBMs. Then again aside from South Ferry it will only produce a redundant service pattern of sorts. The service wont exactly be necessary. The R since the tubes reopened hasnt been exactly that busy lately, even weeknights when I am commuting home from Downtown Manhattan - its very quiet until it hits Whitehall Street then Court Street. Its also too far away from Penn Station so its usefulness for reverse commuting also lacks potential. By that I dont mean a 7 extenion to NJ which is a really stupid idea for the NJ politicians to even propose vs the Amtrak Gateway project, more to do with the geographic location of 34th Street/Hudson Yards
  8. Yes thats true. The 6 requires more cars then the 7 to run efficiently. The 1 can accept R142s only when the new South Ferry Station opens in 2017 (The R142 cars will not line up with the platform gap fillers on the loop). So I guess I digress, we might still have some R142As on the 6 after 2017, but we'll see.
  9. Its possible that with the fleets it can indeed be a full swap is because there are more R142As then you realize that will become converted sets. So the process of the conversions of the 7000 series R142As is actually continuing and not complete. 7401-7590 needs to be rebuilt as new R188 cars by 2017. In fact the R62As will become surplus cars on the IRT. Im expecting the 6 to have all in all exclusively R62A cars.
  10. We used steel from Pittsburg, PA that proved to be flawed in terms of metalurgic tests. That was evident during the last derailment. The 100LB rails we now used that makes an unusual sound? Thats Asian steel.
  11. Saw one R160 today, two more late last night...
  12. I think they start with 7 minute headway just to see how it goes while the R211s are manufactured and testing by the time it comes once bidding is complete and awarded.
  13. Theres the one at Rego Park, Elmhurst Avenue, then Roosevelt, 36th Street, along the 63rd Street connector into Manhattan. I believe so from what I remember.
  14. Its really cool though to see how CBTC works on Queens Bvld, I know GOs back to back and.... but in the end it may prove to be an technology leading subway line in the nation. They can even remove timers from the express tracks since it was done already on the L.
  15. With the change in CBTC plans as listed in the busget, as CBTC is installed on the QBL and manhattan, its possible they can bump up thre TPH to allow for Culver expresses. However they may have to convert several R160 cars with kits, as well as many R211s they can afford to assign to jamaica which they should.
  16. We they can max out the L to I believe 26+ trains per hour. So they might be able to do the same on the F.
  17. I guess they must be adressing complaints about the F with the delays that is almost constant on that line. That must be the reason for the change from installing CBTC with the E in mind. F to 2nd Ave? Well unsure if theire are plans for the SAS and CBTC. Too early to tell, havent heard anything on that one.
  18. This is actually the smart thing to do. Having a dog in a backpack is legal according to MTA rules. Even though its a pit bull. Kudos to that man for his ingenuous way of getting your dog with you in the average subway commute! Credits: Justin Myrick/Tickld More on Queens Bvld CBTC. The have shifted from installing CBTC on the 53rd Street corridor and 8th Ave to 63rd Street and 6th Ave as well as the QBL: http://web.mta.info/capital/pdf/Board_2015-2019_Capital_Program.pdf
  19. Thw 2015-18 captial budget plan has been released, feel free to check it out: http://web.mta.info/capital/pdf/Board_2015-2019_Capital_Program.pdf There is a slight update on the R211 order: It is to be 60' cars. Thats all there is to it. Screenshot:
  20. I dont either, but apparently its chargable to Car Equipment even though this is a Track and Signals Division problem. So say if a R143 is stalled even though its probably attributed to a server crashing on RCC which is what usually happens that counts as a car equipment failure, with exceptions I'm sure. Unless it is the computer hardware on the R143 itself that causes the train to stall but I am not clear on that.
  21. Yeah whats getting me from the latest MDBF statistics is that overally with the exception of the R188s (It has not been in service that long) the performance of all car fleet types dropped. Well surprisingly the R42s performance increased 25% if that brings any solace. The R62s performance improved dramatically and I believe that may be due to a E-Cam upgrade this particular type of car recently received.
  22. LMAO! This guy is still at it interrupting newscasts! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riCQVBUyeGg
  23. The September committee materials are now posted on the mta.info site as of this morning. In the materials contains the absolute latest on the MDBFs throughout the entire fleet. The icebreaker in this is that the R160 is no longer the top performing car. It is the R188, which has the highest MDBF which is excellent: http://web.mta.info/mta/news/books/pdf/140922_1030_Transit.pdf The complete list of publications for this month can be found here, which includes updates on the SAS and other megaprojects as well as performance stats by subway line. I'm still reading all of them: 1) Full list: http://web.mta.info/mta/news/books/ 2) CPOC meeting, Sept 22nd 2014: http://web.mta.info/mta/news/books/pdf/140922_1345_CPOC.pdf
  24. @ 4:29: Why is she washing clothes in the toilet? Man this seems like your worst nightmare come true...
  25. I know why now. I missed the fact that in the previous service pattern, the Nassau Street M will not hold up trains as severely because it will dip right into Broad Street clearing the signals. In this case we have three Broadway services squeezed into Whitehall Street, so that is the reason for the horrendous delays.
