  1. Wow, 6 pages worth of posts on the R143 (J) in the last 12 hours.

I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised when a CCY R68 ran on the (B) on Monday and the conquestors got so excited that they SET THE TRAIN ON FIRE (or last year when an R32 was on the (R) and they decided to steal the rollsign box from THAT train).....I can only imagine what kind of damage is being done to that R143 set right now....

There's that. Also, aren't tower controllers responsible for setting the switches? The T/O may have been at fault for not clearing this up with the tower (DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT PRETEND TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT RTO OPERATIONS, I AM MERELY GUESSING BASED ON WHAT AVAILABLE INFO I HAVE), but he has no control over the actual positions of the switches.

A wrong lineup isn't considered a wrong lineup until it is accepted by the train operator. There's a reason that home signals have different aspects depending on the direction of the switch.

  2. ^^^^ True. They'd rather have the crew take the train out of service than touch ANY circuit breakers on a NTT. On the older trains, conductors and train operators are trained in circuit breaker troubleshooting, but are forbidden from touching the NTT circuit breakers for ANY reason.

  3. It's not like they filled it in or something or built something in its way. They didn't complete the Sandy work (like they did ont he main tunnel), and have apparently put it off for some reason, but they should get to it eventually.

Fixing the Nassau connection is about 9998 on the list of things that need to be done, especially now that no revenue service uses that tunnel. Unless an extra billion dollars magically appears in the budget, it will continue to sit OOS indefinitely.

  4. This is another reason for expanding the Eastern Division Stations in Manhattan to handle 10 cars or 600' trains.  If they can lift the 75' ban on the Nassau Line in Manhattan, then perhaps you can use the Nassau line in an emergency to re-route (B) trains to, at least to Essex Street.

NOBODY can use the Montague-Nassau connection. It's gone and it probably won't be coming back. Keep dreaming. And get that fantasy crap out of this thread.

  5. 145 can barely turn the (B) on a regular day. You're all being unrealistic about how many trains these terminals can turn, especially on the latter end of rush hour where every other arrival at 207 is a layup to the yard (which means that one of the tracks is going to be occupied for at least 5 minutes while the train is cleaned out) and those uptown (B) were supposed to stay in service to Bedford so they could layup in Concourse. You can't send two services to 207 and two services to 168 and not back up the entire CPW line. Remember that at 168 ALL trains must be cleaned out before they can relay. Also remember that when a train gets sent to a foreign terminal there is no crew to take that train back out, and the crew who brought it in is not gonna want to do an entire extra trip without getting a break first ESPECIALLY if they're an AM crew who was supposed to finish uptown.

And yes Daniel, we did send some (D) to 168 or Dyckman, but they went out of service at 125 and continued lite there. I'd love to know where all these customers trying to get to the Bronx went though. That's the one aspect I didn't get to see last night.

Nevermind, I just worked through this whole incident last night, I don't know half about running a railroad as the members of this forum do......

  6. York and Lafayette towers aren't manned except in GOs so trains CAN NOT be turned there during unplanned service changes.

As for the incident tonight, there were WAY too many trains on the road to start turning all B and D service at 145/168.

  7. The conquestors were on the fan trip today...

    Were they arrested??

Looks like the MTA replaced the (4) strip maps again. They took off the B46 and M86 SBS off, and the "black stickers" are not there either.

They should take ALL of the SBS's off. They're really getting into Silver Lie territory, and at least THAT has in-system free transfers!

  8.

An official Brighton/Broadway express from Coney Island should be able to make the trip in 40 minutes average (A.K.A.: scheduled) and 38 minutes fastest. A whole 10 minutes of time is nothing to sneeze at. Runner up: a Sea Beach local/4 Avenue express/Broadway express can do it in 46 minutes. And during Sea Beach renovation, it should be interesting how fast the (N) can travel from Coney Island to 34 Street during AM rush for the trains that run express along Broadway.

Are you factoring in the time you're going to lose when the Coney Island-Brighton Express has to sit at Brighton Beach while the local on A3/4 crosses in front of it to A2, and then waiting for the train to clear the circuit and THEN waiting for the lineup to A4 gets established? Ain't gonna be a 40 minute trip that way.

  9. Putting the remnants on the (B) would be nice.

It's a moot point since the ONLY place we'll ever see the R32's run from this point forward are the (A)  (C) and (J) , but the 32's and 42's are banned from running on the following lines:

    (B)(D)(N)(Q)(R)

Try to figure out something that these lines have in common for your answer why.

  10. Holy crap. I'm not reading through 8 pages of people trying ANY which way to justify the R32's showing up anywhere other than on the (J) .

#1 The subway is not your playground. We don't put trains on certain lines just so YOU can ride something different. We put trains on lines based on yards and what sort of equipment is NEEDED on certain lines.

#2 The (M) runs OPTO service on weekends and nights. This alone will prevent anything except the R160 from running there at ALL times.

#3 207 Yard is now equipped to handle NTTs. The R160's sent over from ENY are here to stay until the 179s start replacing the 32s.

#4 Get in your photos/rides on the R32 (A) NOW. It's going to go away very soon, and will most likely be replaced by an extra 68/68A from Concourse. No, there will NOT be an R160 or R42 or R44 set running on the (A) .

  11. Trust me, I was at Essex Street and I saw a (C) train coming in for what I thought at first was a R32 (F). I just thought that's what it said on the website.

Yes, there WERE some downtown (A) and (C) sent via the (F) from W4 to Jay on Sat afternoon due to a condition at Chambers, however they all returned to their regular route entering Jay. Furthermore, Kings Highway CAN'T be used as a terminal on weekends because the tower isn't staffed. If this train continued down the (F) line, it would have been turned at Church, Ave X or Stillwell, and there is no record of any (C) train getting turned at any of those places on Sat. Are you still saying that the MTA website claimed that "Very Limited  (C) trains are running via the  (F) line to Kings Highway" or did you just make that up?

  12.

Very Limited (C) trains are running via the (F) line to Kings Highway

This was on the MTA website? (C) are running 15 minute headways this weekend, so that's what, one (C) an hour via Rutgers/Culver? Must have happened when I was at lunch, because I didn't hear about ANY (C) getting sent that way tonight.

  13. The word I've been hearing from the 207 yardmasters (who themselves don't know the whole story, but this is what they've been hearing) is that we'll do one more swap this summer, and then 207 Yard is going to be getting the proper resources to maintain the 160's (as well as getting ready for the similar 179's) and any 160's sent over here will stay year round.

  14. The vandal who filmed this is obviously the same one who pulled the box off of an A train and threw it down there. Youtube and Facebook are law enforcement's best friend. I hope he goes does for terrorism charges for trying to blow up a train this time so that they'll throw away the key.

  15. Um, did somebody re-add the negative feedback button on the site?

Aww hell yeah. Wallyhorse, I DARE you to mention the pols one more time.

Oh, thank you for clarifying that.

Does anyone know what happened to the R143 set that overshot the bumper in Canarsie Yard?

It's in the north end of 207 yard and will feed spare parts for the other sets.
