  1. I took the (N) to Coney Island from Chinatown Tuesday night just as split service started. The dispatchers sent the 8 Avenue-bound (N) on its way right before the (N) coming from Manhattan came to a stop. Some folks were very pissed as they were watching this. The train operator, conductor, and dispatchers were lucky they were not around to take "questions" from these folks.

Yep, that's how Murphy Tower rolls.

  2. How about the R32 (A)?

That's a wild card. As long as it makes it back to 207 in time to get cut back to 8 cars for the next morning, they can do whatever they want with it. It will most likely also be used for one or two Lefferts trips in the PM rush (no set schedule, it will vary day to day) and then get laid up early enough that there's no danger of it ending up as the shuttle train. Also you can forget about it ever being used for a Rock Park trip, since all of those trains lay up there upon arrival.

  3. Won't happen. Almost did today, but the 207 T/D's decided to send two Lefferts trains in a row followed by two Far Rock trains in a row in order to prevent the 68 from going there. The crew that does that trip from Lefferts to 207 with the 68 is the same crew who takes it back to Concourse, so they need it to be sent to Lefferts for that crew to get on it. Since this is borrowed equipment which HAS to get returned that same night, there's no messing around with this supplement.

  4. I know this is probably last week's news now, but if anyone is still dying to ride that R68 on the (A) , it now has an official supplement - it will make one round trip each weekday, on the 1853 out of 207 to Lefferts, and the 2003 Lefferts to 207, and then runs lite back to Concourse. This is expected to last until the end of the year, or until we get some R179's, whichever happens first.

  5. Mega-foam if it stays in service through the yard to Brighton Beach. Avenue X, Coney Island, West 8 Street, Ocean Parkway, Brighton Beach

Will NEVER happen. We aren't authorized to carry customers through Coney Island Yard. It will go out of service at Kings Highway or Ave X. Sometimes a train will remain in service straight to Stillwell on tk 5/6 and then will swing around north of the station to get back to tks 1-4 if it was a (B) or (Q) . In the case of the (D) , it will just next make its next trip to 205 from 5/6.

And yes, you can get from Ave X to Brighton Beach via the yard without reversing direction.

  6. Really...WOW

yeah it got borrowed from a re-routed (F) ... I almost got to work it. The C/R came to me to ask what the Luminator code for (D) to 205 was though.....

Can confirm that at least one (E) got rerouted to 168 yesterday, not sure why. (E) to 168 is another R160 program that doesn't exist, so it has to get changed to the regular (C) program.

  7. That R68A (Q) is still out there, it's at Queensboro or Lex by now heading to Coney Island.

I saw that train laid up in Stillwell Yard earlier tonight. Man, these R68As are EVERYWHERE this pick.

Did anyone happen to catch the 4 car R68-4 car R68A set this morning on the (B) ? If that were to end up on the (A) , I don't think some of you would be able to survive that.

  8. There are announcement programs for almost any service pattern available in the B Division.

Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it in my opinion.

Yep, unless you want to run an (F) via 53 St and then local in Queens. There's no program for that. But there is a program for turning at Ft Hamilton Parkway for some reason......

  9. What's the reason behind putting the hippos on the A anyway?

New daily schedule calls for 40 PM sets, up from 38 last pick, which is more than the (A) has readily available on most days. The (B) and (C) both have one set they can borrow, since their PM requirement is one less than their AM.

  10. I was told an R68/A might pop up on the (A) during the PM Rush. Not sure how true it is. Don't take my word for it (meaning don't waste your time by standing at one of the (A) platforms for 3 hours). If it's true it will be there all pick.

There is some truth to this. In fact, there's a very good chance that yours truly might be operating it tomorrow, since I'm scheduled to do a put-in from 207Y. At the least, I will ask the yard dispatcher what the whole story is.

And yes, I know some of you will take this rumor alone as enough reason to stand all night on the platform waiting for it. I can tell you one thing - EXPECT to see an R68A on the upper broadway line around 9:45AM tomorrow morning.

  11. BTW Lunch is scheduled for anywhere from 30 to 70 minutes, depending on the job and lunch location, and will always be during a scheduled time between your 3rd and 6th hour after the job starts. As lunch is paid time, you do not have a RIGHT to your full lunch break if you come in late or the road is blown up, but you will be paid a 30 minute bonus if you don't get at least 20 minutes of your scheduled lunch break. So always come to work with snacks and NEVER make plans on your lunch break.

  12. Wait but why would it run via Culver?

In order for a (B) or (D) to reach Grand St (and thus the bridge and Brighton/West End lines) it MUST arrive on tk B3 (the southbound express on the lower level) at W4. If it gets rerouted down 8 Av, that train CAN NOT access B3 at all, and will either get turned at 2 Av, or continue via the Culver line (through either Cranberry or Rutgers) to Coney Island. Futhermore, if a (B) or (D) gets rerouted down the 8 Av express, it can't even get to Broadway-Lafayette and MUST continue on to either Canal St (where it can be turned back north on the spur track) or through the tube to Jay St where it can be put on the Culver line. If it's a (B) train, it will likely drop out at Ave X and then run lite through the yard in order to get to tks 1-4 at Coney Island so it can get back to Brighton Beach. (D) trains can just arrive on 5 or 6 at Coney and then do their next N/B trip from there by going out the back.

  13. BTW, there is this one set on the <6> that's been pissing me off. Lol but I was riding an R142A (6) one day and that one set for some reason when this set is at a Manhattan stop, it says "This is a Manhattan bound.... (6) Train. The Next STOP is.... (Astor Place)". Why and what is causing this to happen?

There's nothing to be passed about. Brooklyn Bridge ststion is actually in Manhattan, not Brooklyn, so there's nothing wrong with the announcement. Now, the Brooklyn Bound F calling itself a Manhattan bound F express train at Roosevelt Island, THAT you should be angry about!

  14. Maybe your side of things should set them properly so they're not in that position, like the (B) . It says 145th in one car and Bedford Park Boulevard in another. I mean, isn't that what (MTA) officials get paid for?

Nope, they cut that job last year......perhaps we should hire volunteers from this forum to change signs at Brighton?

BTW - I've worked plenty of (B) trains where entire train was set to 145, I made appropriate announcements coming into 59, 125 and 145 to change to the (D) for Bronx service, and I still get customers staring at me when I detrain asking what's going on and why isn't the train moving.....

  15. No, the signs weren't on that, they were set for the WTC and others. I changed it to 2nd Av and 168th for this weekend's GO.

Are you a conductor? If not, LEAVE THE SIGNS ALONE. You haven't been trained to operate the trains, and plenty of "helpful friends" have broken the rolls by not turning them at the proper pace.

Wow. A Manhattan bound (L) went Express/ or if some people prefer "Skip-Stop" for some reason

At least nobody's calling it a battery run anymore. Believe it or not sometimes people actually learn.

  16. Service Change  Posted: 04/21/2014  6:57PM

Due to gap filler problems at 14 St-Union Square, northbound 4.png and 5.png trains are running local from 14 St-Union Square toGrand Central-42 St.

    Allow additional travel time.

Yay, I get to scrutinize before anyone else got to it! The northbound platform doesn't HAVE gap fillers, so why would it get affected?????

Surely they meant southbound. And yes, the mta website has been updated to reflect that.

  17. You're all forgetting the #1 reason why the (M) won't run R32 or 42's. That is an OPTO line part time (even when it gets extended to Essex in June, it will still be 4 car OPTO). The 32's and 42's can not run in OPTO mode (how is the T/O gonna open up on the left side?). So it's 143 or 160's only. Sorry.
