So the option order for NYCTA don't have that (#1607-1629+ #1587-1606)? It's interesting that the MTA had spec'd the NYCTA units differently than the MTA bus company units. They haven't done that with earlier bus orders with the possible exception of the 2015-16 New Flyer XD60 artics #5364-5438, although they were of a different vintage than the other orders.

They've been doing dual specs for a while..... look at the 4300s with that stanchion pole by the farebox, makes boading and alighting a pain in the neck, vs the 3000s, no pole no problem.

I suppose if the plan was not to miss the Westchester Ave stops, then yeah, that was the best possible detour. Unless there was some obstruction NB on Metropolitan Ave or Unionport Road though, I wonder why that wasn't chosen. Those northbound buses might have missed the Westchester Ave stop yeah, but it might've provided for a shorter detour if that was the case. Don't have a strong opinion on it either since I see the benefits band drawbacks of each option, I just thought it was interesting.

In any case, they're putting cops on  M72 buses. I don't know if it's been occuring on any other routes (the M66 doesn't), but the M72 buses I've seen all had them. They have 3 cops on each bus.

They should have it on any buses crossing 125th Street, and any bus in Canarsie, and any bus on Staten Island if they want to really combat farebeating

M72 really? connecting upper East Side to upper West Side? Doesn't even make sense from a crime perspective

    There we go....

The n57, n19, n78/79, n81, El Flexi, MM Shuttle and maybe even the n16, n33, n48, n58, n26, n27 and n21. I don't see both the n55/54 surviving the next rounds of cuts as well.

n22/24 will have its combined service reduced east of Mineola, and n15 north of Hempstead, Frequency reductions along all corridors.

That being said, NICE bus operators are absolutely ruthless when it comes to people paying the fare. If the passenger gets a Metrocard that has no money on it, they simply don't get a ride. I rarely see courtesy rides in Nassau. Compared to Staten Island, where no one pays and the excuse is "we are too far from a MVM"... give me a break

And that's the way it should be.

Before 2005 IIRC, there were branch designations for the (5). The <5> signified it was going via WPR to Neried or Crown Heights.

For some odd reason, they changed it afterwards to only include rush hour express service, which is why the <6> and <7> still have it, even though the <5> also falls under that category.

I saw this in the news back in the day, and they had the nerve to say they were getting rid of the <5> to eliminate confusion, in reality the opposite occurred

    Stupid games for stupid prizes.

I mean how restructuring can you do with the BM lines. Most run the same traffic pattern to Manhattan then to their respective neighborhoods. What needs to be added back in my opinion is the BM2 back to Ashford & Wortman to give East New York riders a possible 1 seat ride to Downtown Manhattan. There’s no option for that currently and the BM5 doesn’t provide that option currently.

    Yeah, I hear ya.....

Well all of you guys criticizing NICE and Gillig,

You guys want more Nova's and New Flyers already sprawling all over the whole transit Network or just appreciate the Gilligs.  They have been around for over 100 years. So. Obviously they are doing something right.  Also at least NICE got the BRT model which is the best looking one out of all of the other Gilligs

There are no good-looking Gilligs, There just aren't.

It also means more reliable service. The Spring Creek express bus lines are the worst performing (MTA) lines in the entire express bus system, and part of the issue is the amount of deadheading they have to do back and forth from Brooklyn to Manhattan.

Well that's unfortunate. There's so much Brooklyn traffic, those BM's could really use a restructuring.

i have used 49th st pre pandemic and post pandemic for years and i'll say the (N) doesn't need to stop there.

BTW be safe riding the subway, yesterday someone got fatally stabbed at 34th Penn station on (2) train. Saw the aftermath of the whole thing, Suspect is still on the loose.

I went to my local Walgreens right along Baychester yesterday, and I noticed that they had the One Metro New York contactless cards available there. Since I needed to buy something else other than that earlier, I went to a retail clerk (lets call her Mia*) that somehow knew my mom. She was unusually courteous to me. I later went back there after going to a laundromat along Pitman to dry some clothes, hoping that I would get the card there. Sure enough, I got the card and I went to the retail clerk (lets call him William*) that was there when I came back later. I struggled with asking him about a particular aspect of the card, but he was understanding. He called over his coworker and asked if they can sell it to me. He said no, which he told me. I asked him something like: "Don't you have any special card readers to detect it?" He said something like: "We do not know why we cannot sell it, but it ain't eligible to be sold here." At that point, I am thinking something like: "I should have just seen Mia* while she was at the retail area." I really thought it was strange that it cannot be sold there, when the card that I wanted to get was good for five years - meaning that it was not expired.

*I just simply made those names up.

I had this problem too. One week ago I finally found an OMNY card at a DuaneReade, went to buy it, the cashier said he couldn't sell it to me because "it wasn't in their system yet", I just walked out. It the thing isn't in your system, why's it on the rack for sale?

Ain't seen one since. F***in' useless.
