    • My friend, you are over fixating on something that is still years in the future. take a deep breath and take one thing at a time.    tell you what… if you have the resources, the few trolley museums with old subway equipment, like, say, Shoreline, might be worth looking into joining. They offer their members operating training: that way you can get the feel for actually being at the controls of a physical train, not a collection of 1s and 0s on a screen that doesn’t necessarily follow the laws of physics. as a birthday gift when I turned 18, my parents got me signed up to do a guest engineer program on a tourist railroad upstate, the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley. Drove a Montreal Locomotive Works licensed copy of an Alco S4 locomotive up and down thier line.
    • Ah so they're probably for senior operators. So probably I'll never get to operate a SMEE because by the time I am called down for schoolcar it will all be NTTs and all the SMEEs will be gone. Shame, the SMEEs are cool. My favorite train in service rn is the R62A, I would have loved to operate the 1 or 6 trains with them. Although I was told by a train operator that for your road practical you would use a SMEE because they like to test you on the hardest equipment available, but by that time they'll probably just test me on an NTT
    • Gotta know someone.. Basically....
    • if they establish the promotional exam before an OC list expires yes its possible
    • Nice, I wish you luck in schoolcar. Do both promotional and open competitive test takers attend the same classes?
    • Conductor/Soon to be train operator
