  1. I just spoke to a T/O at Rockaway Park today. He basically confirmed what another poster had posted earlier: there is HUGE turnover at the conductor position. They call up 2,000 or so a year but then only 450 want the job, and the rest are no longer interested or DQ'd for various reasons. The reason for the turnover, he told me, is that everybody wants to promote up from C/R. Turnovers for T/O are much fewer. It used to be that the Bus Operator and Conductor exam were combined. When you applied, you were applying for both. Today it is separate. If you're disciplined at a higher post, they bust you down to C/R. If you're already a C/R and you're disciplined, there's no lower post to go down to; they just dump you.

     

    Anyway, I look to be in pretty good shape if the turnover is that swift. Even if my list number is in the 2,000-3,000 range, I can expect to get called up in about two years, and the list is good for four. Looks like 6 wrong ain't so bad after all :)

  2. Question I work in a seasonal full time job 7-8 months out of the year altogether I definitely have the 5 years work experience. However when stating all this will I have to fill in for each 7-8 month work period or can I just lump them together?

  3. if they call you, you can always postpone it until you have enough work experience. .

    This was already addressed earlier in this thread. As well as in the NOE. You need those qualifications on the DAY YOU APPLY. Of course, you could petition the MTA to postpone the Education and Experience Test until the day you are called from the list. But they probably won't want to do that because then they would have to sift through too many unqualified candidates at the last minute. I think people should write to the exams unit and ask for them to do what you suggest, to postpone the E&E test until the day one is called from the list.

  4. How disappointing. Looks like I wont be qualified. What a disappointment this morning, was really looking forward to taking this test...I did not know it required such qualifications before hand...ugh.

    Bear in mind those WERE the requirements from the last NOE. It is possible (though unlikely) that they could be changed in the new NOE. You could ask them to relax the requirements.

  5. Are they strict on that employment/educational history? Say you have 76 credits, and four years of work-study, but only 1 year of which was paid.That would be about three years, two short of the five. So that would DQ me. But what if I accumulated 120 credits after the exam was given but before I got called up. Could that be acceptable? Or do you need the 120 credits the day you apply for the exam?

  6. I'm in the 1100 range and just keeping positive that my # will be called... Also hoping that this is extended past the 2017 expiration of exam 3600...Thry did for the previous one...

    When does the list for 3600 expire? 2017? When would the new exam for trackworker be held, also 2017?

    Question to anyone who can advise me:

     

    What EXACTLY do they ask you on the Education and Experience form? Does anyone have a blank sample they might be willing to share? I ask this because I found on another forum that applicants for T/O filled it out seemingly correctly and still got DQ'd:

    Do you need pay stubs? What DO you need? Has anyone been through this before? Does college work sudy count?

     

    Also, what does it mean when they say part-time work experience will be "pro-rated"? What is that?

     

     

  8. I went to the protest session yesterday, mainly to see what question #73 was. I had a feeling I wouldn't be able to protest, and I was right - the question gave me a timetable and a scenario where a customer asks me when the next train will arrive, and I made the mistake of not looking at all the times listed for that particular station.

     

    I'm happy with just one wrong though, and while this error might set me back for a long time I can use that time on  college/trade school if I decide to go back.

     

    Congrats to all who passed, and for those who won't get hired don't beat yourself too hard - there will be other opportunities in the future.

    With only one wrong you'll be called right away. I spoke with a TO on the Rockaway Shuttle tonight and it took him 5 years to get called. If they keep hiring and keep that list open then 6 wrong might get me in, though it may be a few years from now. I just wish someone could post solid stats on how often thay call from the list and how long the wait is, etc.

  9. Do you know what you're talking about ? Do you know that Transit hires people with criminal history as long as you don't lie, or have any open cases ? How do I know this ? Because I am a Transit employee with a criminal history. There are Train Operators, Conductors, Trackworkers, Cleaners etc that work for Transit, and have criminal histories.

     

    The only way a criminal record will DQ you is if you are constantly catching cases, as in once a month, once a year, or every other year. Hence having a pattern of never learning your lesson.

    This is news to me. I thought there was a new city policy where they couldn't ask you about convictions or arrests. As for patterns, is this an officially promulgated policy? Do you have a source for this information?

  10. I'm not sure, Ren. I'm not making promises. Keep in mind there was essentially no hiring and no processing of applicants for several years from the 8094 conductor exam.

    I just want to be sure I understood you correctly: they call 2000 people up a year and 1250 or so are passed over for whatever reason? In such a case, with a score like 92 I could be called in 2-3 years!

  12. The lady at the protest session yesterday told me 6601 would be open for 4 years. At the rate you claim they process applicants, they would call up 8000 people then. But on the 8094 thread, I see people from that 2008 exam who were 5600(or something) only NOW being called up. You sure they gonna reach 5600 in 3-4 years?

  13. It's frustrating because so much is unknown, and we all want to be called. Things were funky with the prior conductor and train operator lists because of the multi-year hiring freezes.

    Once the conducor list is established they may "process" (send out letters to come in for drug tests) upwards of 2000 people per year. They may actually hire (put in class and on payroll) perhaps 600-750 per year.

    They always contact far more people for initial processing than are actually hired, because some people can't be reached, don't want the job, test dirty, or are disqualified for things like criminal history before they can be placed in school car.

    There is also the oral proficiency test which "may" be required of applicants for this test. That would be a screening device that would knock out some otherwise qualified, high scoring applicants.

    I think more people will be called up than people on this forum expect, but it may take longer than we would like.

    Do you know this for a fact? That they will call up 2000 people per year?

    About 3500-4000 get called. I wonder how many they will call. I wonder where I would land on the final list. I protested every wrong question, just in case. Maybe it would depend on how many questions got struck, and how many people failed the drug tests or whatever other requirements, or asked for deferments, or simply didn't want the job anymore.

  15. This exam was givin on 10 different dates, with an am and a pm exam for 9 dates. The last date didnt specify am or pm or both. I took the exam on 4/23/16 in the pm. There was about 1000 people that took it then and one of the people working there said that 1000 people took it in the am. So take 2000 on average for 10 dates and you get 20,000 people took the exam. So there you go (((20,000))) people took this exam. Your Welcome.

    No, it does not matter how many took the exam, what matters is how many they need. If they keep the list open for four years, minus any hiring freeze, how far down will they get before it expires?

     

    btw I do not meet the requirements for TO yet.

  16. Well it doesn't matter now, I guess. I did some research. From the last conductor exam, 8094, which was held in 2008 people who scored 96.0 were in the top 2000. They didn't get hired until 2014!

     

    I am really pissed off at myself, I expected to get 100. Instead, I got a lousy 92.5. That is no good. Looking back at the questions I got wrong today, I can't believe I missed them. I really wanted this job. Even if they extended the list for as long as 8094 was, I would still need three questions thrown out to get in off this list. Smh.

I got to the protest late and I was there maybe 15 minutes the most and there seemed to be more than 8 people in the room. 5/22 am question #47 deals with the two local trains operating local in Brooklyn during late nights. Based on the question, there are two correct answers. The J and R trains. Local in Brooklyn is the key.

    No! That was a trick question! I thought the same thing you did at first. Then I looked closely and saw that the question asked which train in the schedule only had local service for that line AND NO OTHER SERVICE ON THAT LINE.
