So far this summer the A/C has been working on every R62A I rode on both the (1) and (6) lines. Either the mechanics found a fix to the constant A/C failures on that fleet or the lighter ridership is putting less strain on the car's A/C systems. Also the A/C on the 62A's this summer has been ICE COLD! Not that weak A/C found on cars like the R46s for example.

Hate to say it, but this is another thing that has to do with 24 hour service being curtailed. More time to inspect the cars and figure out which sets have an issue, less all-day strain. Thinking about what the MDBF on the R62s looks like on the part-time (3) versus the MDBF on the R62As on full-time (1) and (6) should tell you something. I'd bet what you're seeing is a combination of all these things.

Not so fast, just yesterday on my way to my boys house on the (1)-R62A 1867 (hot car). Luckily I was on car 1866 which indeed was nice and cold. The hot cars or out there, only the great thing is that there's not as many as there use to be given that in recent years the R62As have undergone several modifications.

They’ve been swapping units very frequently. I don’t Know why either.

With this particular fleet swap, I'm assuming maybe it has something to do with the lose of (R142 6346-6350) from the March 27 fire incident and to make up for it they acquired 7121-7125 from the (4).

Few weeks, 1942-1938-1926-1938 and 1934: has its regular rollsign. As of today, it has upgraded white LED lighting and looped standing poles with single lined rollsigns. *This 5-car set still has its corona purple and red sticker attached as former single units.

After work being done on 1943-4/7-9, that's it for the (6) 's R62As (all originally removed)

    42nd (S)huttle R62A's are next.

Already 6 19xx-R62As from the shuttle have had there rollsigns changed. Saw them a few weeks back by the overhaul shop from the 207 street station.

Sigh..... If only these newbie trains have any idea what there futures are in for in the New York City subway life. Nice things don't last here, but that's a good looking train.

  5. Man.... It's amazing to think the R142s & R142As are very soon approaching there 20 years of service. I remember back in late 2000 when I first rode a downtown (2) train to 42nd Street, at the time on a brand-new Bombardier R142 (probably one of the very few that were running at that time) with that new car smell. Just a thought lol.

Man, what happened to the R62A’s on the (1)?

Those cars used to be so clean and now they look really filthy.

But “be grateful the train is still running” am I right?

Its obviously dust from the tunnels. The (1) is mostly underground and not to mention the fact that the 240th st yard doesn't have a car wash system so trains have to go over to 207 st railyard for wash/cleaning.

The paint job they put on the end bonnets when they were SMS'ed, is not helping either. Same thing is occurring on the (6) R62As.

This was the 1947-1948 etc. set, which is also still original. If I remember right, on 1924 that rollsign is original but it's from an R62, with Akzidenz, not Helvetica.

Also, has anybody checked if the original floors remain on 1958/the 214x set that had them (incl. a piece of redbird floor)?

Affirmative,  those still do remain. Rode 2146 yesterday those floors really light up the inside of the car a bit.

Yes, that's it. With its purple sticker

Speaking of stickers, for some reason it seems as if westchester yard crews have stopped putting there new green ones on the rest of the R62As that still don't have them on the (6). I wonder why they don't continue with that.

Just to note, over 40 of Westchester's R62As have been SMS'ed with brighter lighting, loop poles and the obvious Helvetica one-lined rollsigns, similar to the sets on the (1). Don't know yet if the R62A set's on the 42nd Shuttle would be SMS'ed going forward, specifically (under body work/truck overhauls and cleaning each car bonnets).
