  1. I wonder whats the reason why they have to run (Q) shuttle buses between Atlantic Av and Prospect Park when there is the Franklin Av Shuttle and the  (2)  (3)  (4) . Can the shuttle handle the crowds?

Well the Shuttle is only supposed to handle small crowds stuffing all those people on there will be like trying to wear a shoe that can't fit.
  2. Once enough R179 cars come in will they retire the R42s? I hear that the first line the R179s are going to touch are the (J) and (Z) to retire the 42s. Another rumor I hear is that they are going to stay as long as the 32s to accommodate service for the (L) train shutdown in 2019.

  3. I feel like they will eventually. I'd say give Corona some time, overall they take care of their fleet better than most of the other IRT depos. Frankly off the R142A's in the (7) are cleaner than those on the (6), and they damage they'd sustained from running on the (6). These cars for the most part are still new to them, I'd say after the R62A's are gone these trains will likely get better through daily maintenance. Or for the very least they won't end up any worse than when they were on the (6).

Putting the converted R142A's on the (7) really damaged (6) service tho. I'm wondering if the line the the (7) really needed to get NTTs from was the (6). Should have been the (4) or (5) IMHO.

  4. The map has 2 separate Little Neck's..... Out of the many things that's not all that accurate about this map, I'm going to chalk up that specific one as an oversight.....

They lumped S. Jamaica into "Jamaica".... Looking in that general area of this map, I didn't know "Rochdale" was a neighborhood....

Before like 2000, I swear I have never heard of "Neponsit".... That area west of 116th all the way to Riis Beach considered Belle Harbor for the longest...  Something happened where Neponsit became a thing (became recognized).... Holl'on, didn't that plane crash happen around that time? Yep... Yes it did.....

Queens has a crapton of subsections.... Knock yourself out if you think you can list them all (or most of them) off-top....

At least the ones in Queens have history to them & aren't being made up on the fly in this current era by greedy real estate salesmen like the ones here in Brooklyn....

I've said this on here at least once before, and quite a few times offline.... I have to be like one of the only (non-Electchester resident) that actually, verbally, calls that area Electchester..... Largely b/c I like how it rolls off the tongue....

Now Pomonok.... I don't use... Lol.....

One bus gets the bulk of the riders along Francis Lewis & the next trip afterwards more or less carries air for long stretches of the ride with the Q76..... Doesn't help that the route has an "unofficial" non-stop portion b/w HHE & Jamaica Estates - especially if there's no passenger activity b/w the Q46 & itself @ Union Tpke.... I've been on more than my fair share of buses (plural) that even went nonstop b/w 48th & Jamaica Estates; something is very wrong with that....

Regardless, these are issues that's been going on with the Q76 for a lonnnng time now.... Not sure what can really be done about that, as the route (as you know) is a relatively high headway route.....

I have always viewed the Q31 as supplemental Q30 service that just happens to go to Bayside high.... Honestly, I would turn the Q31 off at Francis Lewis, run along it until 32nd av, to end at the HS itself.... The way it currently travels, yeah, everyone's off at the HS because patrons in that area are mainly gunning for service to Flushing by way of the Q28....

That route (Q28) is THE most underestimated route of the Flushing feeders... Like most bus routes in the city, it's losing ridership according to the stats, but I have to say the route continues to grow in terms of popularity....

    The Q13 OTOH......

My prediction is that ridership will continue to decrease on the Q28. People are finding a bunch of alternates around the route. It will probably be axed in the next couple of years.
  5. The unwieldy length is an issue that the 75px-NYCS-bull-trans-K-NSE_svg.png would have solved, but it's evidently too difficult to determine a suitable northern terminus for such a line serving Bay Ridge. I'd always imagined that the unused tracks at the Chambers Street station would've provided a perfect northern terminus (the tracks that used to lead to the Manhattan Bridge before they were severed). Apparently, that would cause other problems, so the (W) extension looks more likely.

And which yard would the (W) use?

It would use the yard it's already using. Coney Island Yard.

  6. Okay, well if we're talking about priorities here, it seems that most of us are in agreement that Queens needs more service options. In that case, the 75px-NYCS-bull-trans-V-SAS_svg.png to Jamaica–179th Street could be inexpensively implemented as early as Phase III (and would give commuters more confidence in the Second Avenue Subway's worth overall). The only significant cost I can think of is connecting it to the 63rd Street Tunnel, but I believe the SAS spurs have long since been constructed, so it actually shouldn't be too difficult or costly.

If it would be reasonably affordable to construct a yard at Bay Ridge–95th Street to feasibly extend the (W) there, then I'm all for it, especially if there are provisions to extend it to Staten Island someday.

None need to construct a yard, the (R) already has two yards taking care of it Jamaica Yard and Coney Island Yard. Back in the day when the (R) went to Astoria this proposal would of been necessary.
  7. Would it be a good idea to reroute some (V) trains along the Queens Boulevard Bypass toward Howard Beach via the old Rockaway Beach Branch? On one hand, it would help alleviate congestion on the Woodhaven Boulevard buses, but on another, it would involve reducing service frequency for Jamaica riders (since such a reroute would mean some trains being rerouted away from one segment to another, resulting in longer wait times at stations east of Woodside). What do you think?

It sounds doable but service would be less frequent on the Queens blvd local. The (R) isn't frequent enough to handle all that capacity on its own. You would have the Rockaway park (S) and the (V) terminating at Howard beach which would cause congestion and make the (A) less frequent unless youre talking about getting rid of the (S).

  8.

Anybody got a nice close pic of the LCD video screen portion of the new FINDs?

Here a pic of a interior of an R179 interior FIND (not mine) of what they look like looks exactly like an R179.

Edit: The link is messed up I'll post later.
