  1. It's a full class of 24. Took them a while to put all of them on the roster.
  2. I have seen a bunch of red flags around, so i assume you guys are out now mentoring. Probably a shock to the system, realizing how things work outside of the classroom and in the real world. Listen to your mentors!! Act like a sponge, absorb everything!! (try, at least lol) just wait till your first day and are thrown out to the wolves on your own. Scary, but its the only way you will learn. Focus on getting off probation, studying is the easy part. Winter is going to suck for you guys. Try and stay positive.
  3. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard "i have the app, but my phone is dead..."
  4. Upon further inspection, and talking to a reliable source, the dream key panels on the B ends are next to the emergency door release handles. Finally no more bending down to key on!
  5. for those that passed the S&D, congrats, but it only gets harder from here until you qualify. Also, word on the street is that they are looking to hire 10 classes of 24 a/c's next year. Something to think about for the ones that havent gotten the call yet.
  6. Congrats to everyone who made it this far. Keep it up!
  7. In my opinion, it depends on the instructor you get for training (as far as your chances of success). Most of them are good, but there is one individual who is horrifically bad. My class got lucky, more recent classes haven't. Anyway good luck, and STUDY!! Have EVERYTHING verbatim that they gave you the first day you go to class. Now is not the time to start slackin'.
  8. Don't worry about understanding the signal. Just be able to spit out the aspect and indication verbatim, regardless if the "picture" is the same.
  9. Believe it or not, studying for the S&D is the easy part. Surviving your probationary period is most important, and consequently, the most difficult, IMO. Its only going to get tougher from here, but believe me its worth it.
  10. Its a little more complicated then that, but you will figure it out once you come out.
  11. The first year depends on when you graduate. If you come out during the summer, its not that bad. You'll be able to hit nice jobs and do pretty much what you want. If you come out in the winter, then you will "hang" probably 3 of the 5 days per week and wish that you were back at your old job. Not fun. Also there are a bunch of probationary conductors that are in their first year and have owned the same job since December. It does happen. This depends on the job. most jobs finish where you start, but some jobs don't. There are jobs that allocate "deadhead" time at the end so that you can officially finish where you started, but you don't need to physically go all the way back (if that makes any sense). Contractually, you are paid back to the terminal where you started.
  12. That's weird that they are making you go all the way out to Babylon. Anyway, refer back to my long post in the first couple of pages of this thread if you want some idea of what you're in for.
  13. They are still in place as far as i know. We'll see what happens when they get a new contract, but i cant imagine that the ble will give them up. Also for those that are interested, they just posted the Engineer Trainee job on the MTA jobs website.
  14. The LIRR engineers currently don't have a contract at this point. I believe that it expired last week or so.
  15. Things should be picking up. There is a class scheduled for some time in January-February.
  16. They will specify whether you are in zone A or zone C territory.
  17. DO NOT study from anything other than what they give you. You have plenty of time to get the Signals and Definitions down.
  18. The problem is that they throw a lot of info at you in a short period of time. This means that you have to study at least 4 hrs a day every day while going through the book. Some guys have no problem, other guys never really studied in their life so its a shock to them. Totally depends on how much effort you put into it. Is it rocket science? no. Will you have to regurgitate things verbatim without totally understanding them? Definitely.
  19. The next class isn't until January so you guys have some time to get things sorted. Keep studying your S&D's.
