  1. It looks like ten MK R-42's were brought back to ENY this week: 4790/91, 4796/97, 4808/09, 4820/21 and 4834/35. One hold up on their transfer is ongoing long-term SMS of R-160A-1's, which leaves a hole in the fleet. R-143 availability also lags. Short and sweet, the MK R-42's still need to be at ENY for a while. Eventually these "skies" will clear. As of February 8, the assigned fleet at East New York stood at 730 cars.
  2. Thank you for creating this discussion board. Reading back, what and why is the major propulsion upgrade necessary on the R-142s and their Alstom Onyx? That system seems to work just fine with Canarsie CBTC on 8313-76.
  3. They're not on hold, cars are coming in. 3210-13 just got delivered. Thank you! The vendor identification report still only showed deliveries up to 3205 as of February 6. It could be 3206-09 have not yet been in final assembly and/or static testing at Pitkin. The latest schedule that I know of shows 4-car sets (last but not least 3070-73, finally?!?) being delivered through the end of March, then the first of the "production" 5-car sets showing up in the first week of April. Could be that final 4-car link will be put off again, and the third 5-car set substituted. Depending on how well they test, it would be 4-6 weeks before the next of the 5-car sets enter revenue service after that. Sounds like Mothers' Day or thereabouts. If there were no more delays (unlikely) the entire 318-car fleet would be in service on or about October 1.
  4. I saw two sets on the today. I saw one today during the midday hours so yeah. OK, yesterday was the R-46's first weekday back on in a couple of weeks. The R-32's are running their wheels off on the , with about a half dozen trains or so somewhere on just about any time. There can be dozens of consists overall in use on weekdays. Its luck of the draw (and R-179 availability) the day of your visit. The more R-179's on , the higher the probability of finding R-32's on to fill schedules All 50 MK R-42's remain at ENY for and until further notice. They're needed to prop up schedules while various NTT's miss time for various reason (particularly the aging R-143's).
  5. Mentioned as of now, 3190-7 is in-service. 6 sets in-total for now on the There's still no confirmation on the delivery of 3206-09. One train is now burning in for : 3198-3205. Deliveries still seem to be on hold. This will impact progress on the remainder and change the schedule again. (=MORE "free" cars?) Pilot train aside, it looks like the 5-car R-179's () won't be around until well into the spring now. Deliveries completed in early fall. Don't know yet as it depends on resolution of these production delays (in turn on better reliability of the product from Bombardier).
  6. That can't be right because there was two R160 sets on the this past Saturday. The last 12 R-160A-1's were moved 207 to East New York at end of service Wednesday evening, February 6. Two moves: 8645-48 with 9967-70, then 8625-28 by itself. No more R-160A-1 on . R-46's on are missing on weekdays for now, likely pending a better reliability from the R-179's, but are still present on weekends, albeit one or two. One MK R-42 train from Pitkin was returned to East New York for service on February 6. Another might get swapped back to Pitkin in exchange, where they would have their various minor ills addressed.
  7. R-160A-1 8613-16 to ENY on February 1. 12 left at 207 Street, with one train still in service.
  8. It also looks like the R-143's are all but gone from and again.
  9. The delivered and unaccepted list is only showing cars up to 3205. Has been for like a month. So these new delays push first delivery of the 5-car sets to end of March, probably their revenue service well into April, maybe May 2019. The final delivery now projects into September.
  10. So that might be it for the last R-160A-1's at 207.
  11. R-160A-1 9971-74 was finally seen at ENY on January 25. 16 left at 207 Street, one train still in service.
  12. It was a re-positioning move from Pitkin to Lefferts Blvd. and back to Pitkin to move them to a different track within the yard. As always, Pitkin's roof (the apartment building's basement) leaks and they are trying to keep them clean and dry while stored (but ready). All handbrakes are applied until then and they wait for whatever. BTW, the second MK R-42 consist was 4789/88-4795/94-4820/21-4797/96. All are still formally assigned to East NY, where there were three still in service on Monday (January 28).
  13. Where have I seen this before? Oh yeah, when they took them out of service the first time... Countdown holding at 3209...........Forgot about the missing 3070-73. I wonder how much they've been picked apart/modified by now?
  14. Well folks, we now have a second R-42 train laid up at Pitkin. Involved are 4788/89, 4794/95, 4796/97, 4820/21, not in order. There were still three 8-car consists in the cycle for Friday, January 25. Still 20 R-160A-1's at 207 Street for (for now).
  15. An inventory of the unit matchups (i.e. 3210/11/12/3213). This new one shows the 4-car units up to 3237 (instead of 3245), and the 5-car units as 3010-3049, then 3238 and upwards, not 3246. I think the next passage was mistakenly added to the other forum last night: The ratio of 4's to 5's changes as Bombardier adds "free" cars to the order in lieu of performance penalty payments to MTA. The 5-car R-179's won't be delivered until the 4-car sets are all on the premises. That won't happen until sometime in March as things have stood for some time. At the 318 car threshold, there are only seven more quads left to deliver. One a week (seen 3210-13 yet?), that's seven weeks, then the 5-packs will start to arrive. Much of this depends on good progress in restoring the accepted R-179s to an acceptable level of reliability.
  16. Mistakenly informed by human beings trying to stay on top of what they're seeing first hand, but don't necessarily know why. We should all be thankful for a willingness to share as they witness what appears to be history. The ratio of 4's to 5's changes as Bombardier adds "free" cars to the order in lieu of performance penalty payments to MTA. The 5-car R-179's won't be delivered until the 4-car sets are all on the premises. That won't happen until sometime in March as things have stood for some time. 17. An inventory of the unit matchups (i.e. 3210/11/12/3213). This new one shows the 4-car units up to 3237 (instead of 3245), and the 5-car units as 3010-3049, then 3238 and upwards, not 3246.
  18. Well, it's NOT official: I am informed that the above move was strictly for storage purposes because of a lack of parking space at the East New York facility or on the entire "Eastern Division." Again, there are 718 cars currently assigned, an all-time high by far. "No decision" yet on future assignments for the MK R-42's, but they operationally healthy and are not being retired at this time. Oh, well!
  19. There are 12 trains assigned to East New York (96 cars) and 4 to 207 Street (32 cars). Seven R179's were running on the on January 18. Same date, there were 28 unaccepted R-179's on NYCT property. 156 total.
  20. Looks good except for two things: 1) I have a VERY reliable update (including a new inventory list, dated January 11, 2019) that now shows 318 cars total, 130 5's & 188 4's. 2) Deliveries projected for completion in mid August, not September. Not sure which is correct, but in any event there are still short term troubles. Still no movement on restoring more of the C train fleet to service.
  21. Upon further review: a better question is when or "if" the R-179's at ENY will be used on the someday in the foreseeable future to relieve that part of the equipment crunch? So far, quality issues suggest not.
  22. R-179's on and , January 18: Six for the road, one in reserve. About a half dozen R-160's & four wandering R-143's. Three MK R-42's. The R-143's are used to fill holes in the requirement, just like the R-42's. Not enough R-160A-1's to stretch among all three lines, but more R-143's than needed just for the Canarsie Line. Especially so given there are only those "special" (CBTC) 64 that can run on and the can only use R-160's. DCE approved their use as an exception a few years ago, understanding that the interior strip maps have to be disregarded by Conductors.
  23. Still just one R-179 train on as we close the week, but NO R-46's (plus one R-160, beau coup R-32's). Several R-179's on and .
