I've been out of the loop with the Queens Bus Redesign, has any news dropped on any changes or anything or have things remained silent since the Revised Draft Plan?

Is their pics/video of the R160 today? Checked YouTube and oddly, no one had uploaded any video of this R160 train.
These days anything remotely rare/unusual has a bunch of fanners uploading footage of said rare sighting as soon as it happens. I remember I saw an NG on an ENY route thinking no one caught this yet when two foamers was already there, damn lol.
Makes me wonder how they get their hands on such information so fast.

How is it a 50% service cut if the is detached from the and not treated like a skip stop variant.
Because thats a (minimum) 6 out of 12 TPH you’re diverting away from Jamaica

What is your reason, The ROW is already exists all you have to do is add an elevated structure. Nobody wants to take the bus anyways.
There’s No Rail ROW on Conduit and like I said in my previous post, the Catchment area along Conduit just low rise Residential Buildings and therefore, isn’t strong enough to support a Sufficient Ridership Base. Also Splitting the and would Hurt Riders along Jamaica Avenue as that’d basically be a 50% Service Cut. Assuming we don’t address any of the other Bottlenecks that plague the Jamaica Line first.

The extension via Conduit Blvd is the more realistic idea rather than the fantasy proposed Second Avenue Subway will ever be which will only serves Manhattan itself.
Conduit has no catchment area outside of Low Rise Residential Buildings. In addition to that, I would advise against adding a branch on the East of Crescent Street.
Also that statement of a Conduit Extension being more realistic than SAS when Phase 2 is literally about to start the construction phase is quite laughable.

59th Street , 7th Avenue , & Greenpoint Avenue stations in Brooklyn are obviously a no go,
All 3 of these Stations already have or are in the process of getting Elevators…

I don't know if the answer is given to the changes happening in August 28th, is the Shuttle running between Lexington Av-63 St up to 21st St-Queensbridge going to be out of Coney Island Yard or the R160s out of Jamaica Yard?
Probably out of Jamaica Yard.

I don’t think thats how any of that works….
but I’m not an RTO guy so I can’t answer those questions.

Is there an updated list of which lines/section of lines that are currently CBTC compatible? I'm not talking about the trains themselves, but the line. I know that currently 7 and L lines are currently fully cbtc (the train and the line and it runs in CBTC auto), and I also know that
"We're in the final stages of rolling out CBTC along Queens Blvd and are in the process of implementing it between Kew Gardens-Union Tpke and Jamaica-179 St."
other then that, are there no cbtc ready lines other then the work they are doing? aka f train in brooklyn, 8th ave and qbvld?
I made this chart showing CBTC Progression by Track Mileage earlier this year, hope it has the answer you find: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rJ6Pm3XYACHCyMT-WdW8PSEiLuGckFw4rCb_xNtySqo/edit
But Right Now as you said, CBTC is compatible in the following sections:
Canarsie - 8th Avenue - ROCK PARK
Flushing - 34th/11th - Main Street
Queens Blvd - 50th/8th; 47-50th/Rockefeller Center; 21st-QB to Union Turnpike

With all the clamor about fleet expansion perhaps someone should explain where the new cars are going to be stored. I’m not familiar with the area leading to 179 st but aren’t some trains laid up on the tracks between stations ? It seems to be an invitation to the perps, IMO. Carry on.
Interesting point you bring up. Lets say hypothetically the new Subway Car Orders all include a fleet expansion. We know Option II of the R-211 is meant to be a fleet Expansion. The R-262 and R-268 contracts I believe will include some kind of fleet expansion. Now, what I’m more interested in is this. Storing Trains in Express and Layup Tracks is one way to mitigate the Yard Capacity Issue but after a certain point, a plan or something will need to arise where Yard Expansion or a New Rail Yard/Maintenance Facility will need to be considered. Whats being looked at right now to ensure that we have the capacity handle increased service/# of rolling stock?

-Utica Avenue Transit Improvement (including possible subway) was supposed to get a study, but COVID seemed to stop that. Prolly decently likely relative to some on this list given the area is such a transit desert. I think MTA would likely combine it with a general effort to fix some of the IRT's other problems in Brooklyn such as Rodgers Junction (assuming it's a branch of IRT Eastern Parkway).
I’m under the impression that the study for Utica Avenue has already been completed but hasn’t been officially published yet.

The MTA is planning on adding new elevators at:
Westchester Square
Queensboro Plaza
181st Street
Court Square
Woodhaven Boulevard
8th Avenue
Revisiting this, nice to see that all of these stations are currently in progress for getting ADA Accessibility.

Yeah, those are most important. Option order 1 would likely not even provide enough cars to make the B and D completely NTT. Option order 2 is going to help us out a lot, and will sort out the rest. Most important is to run full length C and G trains because they are actively harmed by shorter trains.
Let’s put this into perspective.
140 of the R-211’s being Delivered will make up for the loss of the R-32’s that were retired back in 2022.
940 R-211’s are needed to Fully Replace the R-46 Fleet.
I’m not going to Count the 75 R-211S’s as they’re not relevant to my point.
As it stands now, the Base Order and Option 1 Combined will be enough to displace the R-68/68A to CIY if we take 6th Avenue CBTC into Account, but I don’t think it will be enough to make the and Full Length Yet.
…thats where Option Order 2 comes in.

Its nice to hear that the R-268 Contract is a thing. Now its only a matter of time before we learn about what the base order will consist of and if there will be any Option orders.

Seems ridiculous to see SAS connected to QBL, all these ideas are ridiculous imo
The Connections to the 63rd Street Tunnel are still planned to be built. But until then, the only confirmed information about them is that they’ll be used for Deadheads to/from Jamaica

One tiny flaw with that. The 42nd street connector passage is not accessible. Meaning to provide an ADA compliant transfer, you would have to run the shuttle all times.
Thats a non-issue. Will it drive up Operating Costs while the work is being done? Yes. But do what you gotta do to maintain ADA Compliance at that point

is there any word on when Jamaica and Broadway-7th Avenue will happen.
Also my speculation for why Lexington CBTC is postponed is because the MTA still hasn’t awarded the bid for the R262 to any company yet, and spreading out the R142/A’s would leave severe service gaps.
Thats precisely why it was postponed, on top of ‘s priorities changing.
11 minutes ago, Chris89292 said:so if you’ve recently seen the news, the MTA announced that it’ll soon start construction for platform barriers at 3 stations
Times Square-42 Street
3rd Avenue
Sutphin Blvd-Archer Avenue
The design is in its final stages, Any ideas of how subway service will be affected when the project commences? My thoughts are they’ll close one platform at a time, which is logical to provide service on one track
Maybe the platforms will all be closed full time but line segments where PSD Installation is taking place will be suspended on Weekends and Overnight? We’ll just have to wait and see

Ima drop a personal opinion I have on the timeline of SAS.
By the Time Phase 2 is in the middle of or near the completion of its construction, thats when I think Should get the ball rolling on Phase 3 so that by the time Phase 2 is Open for Service, Phase 3 would already be underway and we waste less time with getting it done. And same with Phase 4. Do I believe that’ll happen? Unlikely but hey, you never know.

so they’re favoring the IND and setting aside the BMT and IRT.
Here’s my predictions for which lines will get it after QBL
Culver
8th Avenue
6th Avenue
Crosstown
Lexington Avenue
7th Avenue
AstoriaNo word on when they plan for Broadway and Jamaica CBTC and for other lines in Brooklyn & The Bronx like (Eastern Pkwy, White Plains, Jerome, Dyre, Pelham, Brighton, Fulton, Concourse, West End, Sea Beach, 4th Avenue)
Lexington and Astoria-Broadway were pushed to the 2025-2029 Capital Plan. The Fulton Line from High Street to Euclid Avenue (in addition to that entire interlocking area surrounding Jay Street) was awarded a contract for this capital program that were in. And like @R32 3838 said, the IND have the oldest Signals in the system so given that Ridership is no longer the priority, it makes sense to replace the oldest Signals First. As for every other line, they’re all planned but Considers them low priority atm so you won’t be seeing them anytime soon, although Plans are Subject to change at any moment.
8 hours ago, Reptile said:Once the R62s and R68s are gone everything in the system can be made CBTC ready
Technically you could overlay CBTC onto the existing fixed-block System but it won’t be Operational until you have the Enough Rolling Stock Equipped with CBTC.
7 hours ago, Lawrence St said:Haven't they been working on Culvers signaling system since 2020? What's taking so long?
Contractors installed the Wrong Track Ties so they had to go back and redo it.
But yea, the CBTC Schedule is looking like this at the moment:
Complete:
- Canarsie
- Flushing
- Queens Blvd West (50/8th to UT)
Under Construction:
- Culver (Church Av to West 8th) (Delayed due to Contractor Error)
- 8th Avenue (59 to High St)
- Queens Blvd East (UT to 179th) (Archer Avenue Branch postponed)
Contract Awarded:
- Crosstown+Culver North
- Fulton Street
- 63rd Street+6th Avenue (21st to York St)
Postponed to 2025-2029 Capital Program:
- Lexington Avenue (149th-Nevins)
- Astoria+Broadway
And then of course there’s the Fast Forward Plan, which most lines on here are a part of, I’m not sure how committed to it the still is to that but I hope they can pick up the pace soon.

Does anyone else ever get frustrated that the of the large LED screens installed in subway stations, most seem to just display advertisements, and often the few that display helpful arrival times/service changes are clustered together at one part of the station. At the very least, I feel like it'd be worth investigating having the displays cycle between ads, service status, and upcoming arrivals, so that every minute or so any screen would give you an update on the train times.
There should always be some screens that always display the subway map or service changes because often customers need to look at those screens for longer to understand what they need to do. In an ideal world, I think it'd be nice if the subway map could just update live with service changes because even as a native NYer who has a deeply invested interests in the subway, service changes can often be annoying/confusing to figure out. This might mean switching to the newer Vingelli style map and basically do like what the Weekender does with their maps. If they always had one or two people on hand working on the live maps, they should be able to reconstruct live service changes in a matter of minutes. There could even be a timestamp as to when the map was last updated on the screen. Also seems like Vingelli would just read clearer on those screens which honestly aren't amazing resolution.
Finally, I feel like the screens that only display the overall status of all lines are not particularly helpful, since the customer is really only interested in their lines, and when there is a delay or service change on a line they need, the customer still doesn't know specifically what it is.
NGL, these new Weekend Service Maps are pretty helpful, would be nice if they replaced the map on Weekends in those Screens that display the map

63rd Street Tunnel Shutdown Begins Last week in August.

The and Literally just got a Service increase to every 8 Minutes on Middays. It'd be foolish to undo that.
Also say what you will about this 63rd Street GO, but it is undeniable that Op's at Queens Plaza have been running a lot smoother now since the GO Commenced.
