Car #4054 has arrived to NYC. Looks like it’s accompanied by another car in this image:

Drove by 4054 today (around 19:30 or so) on my way to an assignment and turns out it was accompanied by another 4-9 cars. Couldn’t stop to take a picture cause I was driving.

  2. In my personal opinion, I’m not a fan of going forward with Low Floor LRV’s but it isn’t a deal breaker either. With that being said, since (MTA) is choosing to go this route, I think they should at least have the foresight to make the line easy to upgrade it to a Light Metro or Conventional Rail if the ridership justifies it in the long run. I doubt that’ll happen but it’d be nice.

This is why I think giving the (G) CBTC is a waste of resources. I know it's because it has to be tied in with Culver, but still.

To be fair, Crosstown is Sandwhiched between not only Culver but also Queens Blvd, so I can see why the (MTA) would want to get that out of the way.

Sending Broadway via 4th benefits off-peak service, because in case of any maintenance activity, trains on 4th Ave can be rerouted via the tunnel or bridge depending on the work being done, only affecting service on Broadway, and not 6th Ave. The center of Brighton's job density, and really all of the city, is covered well by both, BMT Broadway and IND 6th Ave are the best hits on the Midtown as I think I stated previously.

Nice to see someone bring up Maintenance as a point for Pro-Deinterlining. Its pretty refreshing TBH.

Why doesn’t anyone talk about making the R express on QBL and the E local

or making more services fully local/express like sending the F full express, and B full local except Brighton

Sending the (R) Express on QBL would require rerouting it via 63rd. Which wouldn't solve the problem with trains merging at 34th-Broadway.

The headway are so bad on weekend, and with the general unreliability of the QBL I rather take the (7) than deal with waiting potentially 25 minute for a (E) train (like what happen to me last week), or a train that crawls from Roosevelt, all the way to Queens Plaza

I've conceded to taking LIRR. Only hop on QBL if I have no other choice now.

I think it’s pretty clear why the closures are not going to be 24/7 or EVERY weekend like they did with the (2)(3)(4) and (5) train reroutes when the Clark St tunnel was closed weekends for 1 year and the base schedule was changed.

the (L) tunnel is still undergoing repairs and every night there is single tracking from 12AM to 5AM, with the tunnel closed alternating each night and that’s planned until NEXT December 2023

No wonder Maintenance Productivity is low…

  8. Someone mentioned Money Problems and Spending Money Foolishly?

I was having a similar conversation with one of my maintainers the other day. IIRC, some incorrect measurements with the track or something delayed Culver CBTC by 2 years? Not to mention that Transit has a bunch of different systems all doing the same job or something like that. Same with QBL CBTC having issues on top of still being incomplete.

Just look at the DC Metro system right now. The same problems plaguing it too. Funding and equipment problems. There’s a stopgap funding mechanism for this year only and then it’s the (MTA) scenario for them. The government has always funded airports and highways to the detriment of public commuter systems. Those who live in the metropolitan areas like Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, DC, and Atlanta and use the systems are pitted against the highway users who don’t normally use the transit system and who resent being taxed for services they don’t use. New Yorkers know the game now.Being told that they must pay congestion pricing fees to fund a system that they don’t use. There’s gotta be a fairer, more equitable solution to the problem plaguing transit systems in the cities. I don’t know how this gets solved except for direct government funding and that’s never happened before in the past. Money is the problem, period. It’s always been the problem even when the private companies ran the system. Perhaps the public school funding mechanism is the way forward. My opinion. Carry on.

And it shouldn't have to be that way at all, although given this country's track record with Public Transport, I can't say I'm surprised.

Exactly: think of why OPTÓ wasn’t implemented permanently on the (L) - unions prevented the loss of those train operator and conductor Jobs. Think of why the Sandy Repairs to the (L) were as botched as they were? Former “Prince Cuomo” didn’t want a full shutdown and thought the extensive work could be done with night and weekend closures.

why hasn’t CBTC started up yet throughout the system? Dinero! (Money)

    Look where that's got us.

On the note of OPTO, those could've been jobs that could've be redistributed elsewhere, especially now with the Shortage of Crews. Although Staff shortages on the MoW side of things is worse atm.

3: going back to the basic issue, PSDs are going to be no go so long as there is not a single door standard on the system and even then they must be able to take into account different train lengths.

So these would be out of the Question?:

Remember: R211s are well ahead of it’s time with everything from lights to mechanisms and other technology. The R211Ts are the first “articulated” subway car in the system. Both standards and OGYs should be the same way no matter what tracks they operate.

Compared to other transit systems in the world, the 211’s would be well within its time. As for the 211T’s, Open Gangways doesn’t mean they’re articulated.

Why the hell is the (G) getting CBTC?

It’s signals are 80+ Years old already, plus it’ll be sandwiched in between 2 CBTC Lines, those being Queens Blvd and Culver (once the section between Church Avenue and West 8th Street-NY Aquarium is complete) so it only makes sense to upgrade the line with CBTC

Meanwhile if it takes you 2 hours to get home and 2 hours to get back to work half of your rest period is gone. Let that sink in.

I’ve had a similar case happen to me before but I work 2 jobs and one takes an hour and a half to get to. While my quarters takes me 35-45 minutes to get to from home on a good day.

IDK how it is for RTO with T/O’s,  Conductors and whatnot. but MoW is allowed to refuse overtime if we can’t do it for whatever reason (although most people generally don’t).
