  1. I'm saying the (F) is less compelling than the SAS (V) on the Bypass, because most people will still be able to take the (M) which also takes them to 6th Avenue. The SAS (V) would be a unique desination not available to those people on Queens Blvd.

The Bypass would have to tunnel under Northern Blvd to get to the LIRR Main Line. As far as the whole "local bypass" thing goes, there are three points against that:

    • It'd still be the longest interstations in the system, Rockaways not withstanding
    • You really wouldn't save that much time, given that trains are capped at 55MPH and a stop takes a total of what, a minute, worst case?
    • The whole question of politically tenable is quite silly, if only because the Bypass has not been a serious consideration for basically four decades at this point. Ask any person in Queens about the Bypass and there's like a 90% chance you'll get a blank stare. There is no expectation for it, and the entire idea of "super-express" was always half baked.
Lol I'm from Queens, but at least I'm that 10% that could give you an answer

  2. Well as I mentioned before it should be a light-rail because IDK which subway line would go there.

    Light rail stops are at:

    Long Island City

    Maspeth-Grand Av

    Ridgewood-Fresh Pond

    Glendale-Atlas Park Shops

    Forest Park-Union Tpke

    Richmond Hill-Myrtle Av

    Jamaica Station (Terminus)

    Potential Extension:

    Hollis-193 St

    Queens Village-218 St

    Belmont Park

IMO this is the only use I can think of for the Lower Montauk.

Or build a new subway line in a similar fashion as the (L)

  3. Sorry, no can do. This is stupid, this thread is for realistic short-turn service disruptions.

    Awwwww

Anyways, back on track. What if a policie investigation happened at Let's say ...... times square on the (Q)

  4. SAS shuttles wouldn't work as the body could be in the 63rd street tunnel, so power on that track would be shut down, while the IND side would remain open.

    Oh ok

What if a category 4 or 5 hurricane hit New York causing it to be rebuilt entirely and the subway system was chosen first to rebuild by Cuomo, DeBlasio, Trump, etc.. The citizens of New York, the MTA, and engineers from all other agencies are chosen to rebuild the Subway. How and where would rebuild it???

Now before anyone says this is stupid, just answer the question first

  5. (N) service is rerouted up 6th Av via 53rd street to Jamaica, running express. Trains in Astoria become shuttles.

    (Q) service is truncated to Times Square, and runs local in Manhattan.

    (R) service is terminates at Whitehall (late-night service pattern).

    (W) service operates as a shuttle between Times Square and Whitehall Street.

Other routes affected by this change:

    (M) service is rerouted to Chambers to permit the (N) to run to Queens.

    (F) trains now run local in Queens so the (N) can run express. This helps take some pressure off the (E) as two express lines now run via 53rd.

So are there any SAS shuttles

  6. It should be a light-rail on the Lower Montauk, from LIC to Jamaica. As for Airtrain, I dunno if it should be extended or not. I mean, we had Emperor Andrew with his LGA AirTrain from Willets Point...and we've seen how stupid that proposal was.

You're right, but should it have a connection with the current system???

  7. Also I'd like to mention that the Queensway is a waste of time and money. It's much wiser to spend a Few billion dollars in connecting RBB to QBL rather than a "park to nowhere". Now if the Queensway were built, not only would I be pissed off but the park would not have enough visitors to warrant for it to stay and ..... Forest Park. My opinion, let's get this done and over with and NIMBY'S guess what, "shut up and deal with it"

  8. Rockaway would be a waste of Bypass capacity that is needed farther east.

Just extend a local train to Howard Beach and call it a day.

Should we leave a connection to the Rockaways in case of emergency????

  9. Totally agree Bob. You are right. With (F) on the bypass, the (E)(M)(V) would get crowded. But with (V) on the bypass, they would stay at the same level as crowding! What is better, more crowding or the same level of crowding.

I'd only care if any of these trains alleviate congestion because I'm someone who uses the (E) train every day on QBL and I can tell ya that it gets REALLY overcrowded at times depending on direction of travel. Now if the Bypass went to Rockaway and joined with the (A) how would things go with a stop at Rego Park

  10. (1) 242 St to Rector St, loop via old SF

    (N) via bridge at all times

®Court St to 95 St, 71 Av to Canal St

    (W) Ditmars Blvd to Canal St

I'd do that but with the (R) and (W) terminating at both levels of City Hall and with (J)(Z) running 2 different services, one to Bay Ridge and one to West End

    New scenario:

They’re coming with body bags to pick two people off the tracks after being struck by a train. The bodies were found on the southbound local track at the curve just north of 57 Street–7 Avenue. Police are on the lookout for a possible third person in the tunnels since the two bodies were found with 3 backpacks. Power is out at 57 Street–7 Avenue and 5 Avenue.

    Reroute the rush hour trains.

    (W) shuttle between Astoria Ditmars and 5 Av.

(N)(Q) to 96 St- 2 Av running Express

    (R) Local via 63 St in both directions to not get disrupted by the (W)

  11. I should've clarified - yes, I get that there is a reason for it to exist, considering that the (Z) hasn't been cut yet - but in what way? I can't possibly fathom a scenario in which it makes sense to have half of the trains on the Jamaica line not serve specific stations. Obviously I don't live in New York, so I'm looking for some insights from those that do.

Like me???? Cause I use the Jamaica line to go to school every day

According to (MTA) Trip Planner, in the morning rush hour, the (E) from Sutphin Boulevard to World Trade Center is two minutes faster than the (J) from Sutphin Boulevard to Fulton Street. (48 minutes vs. 50 minutes)

Huh Sutphin is my transfer point

  12. Here's a question I've been pondering about - what is the point of the skip stop service on the (J)(Z)? Can anyone who is more familiar with that service clarify whether it's actually beneficial for ridership to have a bunch of stations only served by one of the lines?

Ridership demands and that it's efficient, I use the (Z) Skip Stop service to go to school every morning and maraculously end up on time to school everyday and the fact that it's a skip stop makes it efficient and effective, the only down fall for the (J)(Z) in General is frequency and that pisses me off
