  1. https://pedestrianobservations.com/2018/06/12/how-deinterlining-can-improve-new-york-city-transit/ This is his map. Off the bat you can notice the to Metropolitan, the terminating at Bergen, the being revived and acting like a deinterlined (terminating at 2 Av), the being toyed with in the Bronx, etc. Also, he has a shuttle running from 148 St to 135 St, however, this will delay service as 135 St only has the crossover switch north of the station. The only reason it worked out before the was extended to Times Square is because it was during late nights when the wasn't running as often.
  2. Some of ya'll go way too far with this NTT fetish BS. Just chill the hell out.
  3. What is with your ad-hominem addiction with avoiding the R32s? Does it really matter if a train on said line is old or new? It's a train for crying out loud. And the fact that you took a very-circuitous route to get to work an hour late on purpose is very hypocritical and embarrassing. If you got on that R32, you would've been on time to work! Think about it, did you really think you were gonna be on time if you zigzagged all over the place and transferred, as opposed to a one-seat ride on an old R32 without a transfer? No, you wouldn't, which just proves this decision of yours was very clearly intentional. Besides, you already had to take the R32 to Beach 60 St, so what's the pain of staying on it a mere dozen of stops? The R32s will only be gone once the base order of the R211s is completed. Period. Until then, don't use this example of idiocy and just accept the fact that you'll have to deal with the R32s for now. And think twice before you make an insane decision like this one, please.
  4. All of the R32s are staying. None will be retired. Also, don't trust wikipedia as a reliable source! For example, they say only 16 cars (two R179s) are in-service on the , when in reality, it's eight! Every car counts, especially since the retirement of the R44s has caused a car shortage! The R42s are also staying for the shutdown. The reason why they haven't left the yet is because the R32s are being displaced first. Also, the R160s currently on the will be spilt equal between the and . All R68s from both the will head to the in order to make QBL 100% CBTC. Also, any updates on R179 deliveries?
  5. Since we're talking about deinterlining, I might as well share my thoughts on Alon Levy's Plan. In my opinion, he goes way too far with deinterlining. This is why: Firstly, sending the back to Nassau is a non-starter. Ridership will drop like a rock, and Delancey-Essex/Myrtle-Wyckoff will become overwhelmed. The will be overcrowded going into Manhattan. The real thing that limits capacity is not the itself, it's the Myrtle Av bottleneck and the curve at Cypress Hills. Fixing those would be a better investment than otherwise. Secondly, the cannot terminate at Bergen St without tearing up Boerum Hill. Smith St isn't that wide and building new track connection might require the demolition of several buildings for such a high cost. But again, the only thing that limits capacity is Coney Island-Stillwell. It's inability to turn 15 TPH results in a handful of s terminating at Kings Highway. In fact, he doesn't even realize the could simply go express and the can go local without building any new connections. But overall, the should be left alone. Untangling CPW is not necessary. It will only result in Grand Concourse and/or Inwood riders having slower commutes to Manhattan. And he cannot blame the as an alternative because the and go to separate places. The merges aren't really that severe, so why would they even need a service increase? Having the go to Wakefield/Dyre and to Woodlawn is also a non-starter. 149 St-GC will become an overcrowding nightmare. They should be left as-is IMO. Same case in Brooklyn with the to Flatbush and to New Lots and to Utica. I don't see the need to deinterline the IRT because only the expresses share tracks with each other. In other words, the and are completely isolated from the respectively. As for QBL, deinterlining isn't necessary. CBTC signals would increase capacity just enough so that the routes don't need to be changed. The only places where I either completely agree or partially agree with deinterlining are the following: Broadway: to either QBL or SAS, to SAS, to Astoria, eliminated 8 Av: 8 Av Express, 8 Av Express (south of 59 St), 8 Av local Dekalb (partially): : BPB or 145 St to Coney Island via Sea Beach, late nights to Atlantic Av : Norwood-205 St to Coney Island via West End (unchanged) : 96 St or Forest Hills-71 Av to Brighton Beach : 96 St to Coney Island (unchanged)
  6. Lol I came across this on the today : That's right, an R32 rollsign that STILL had knobs. I was at Inwood-207 St, and was walking down the platform when I immediately saw this R32 with a rollsign set to the . Something wasn't right, so I walked inside, and surprise surprise, I saw this. It's rare because there's only four R32s that have these knobs. Also, some other railfan/foamer changed it, not me.
  7. Is the new MCI demonstrator testing on the X27 now? I already know it's based out of Ulmer Park.
  8. EVEN MORE GOOD NEWS!!!! 3106-3109 and 3118-3121 are in regular service, so now we have eight R179s in-service on the !!! 3122-3125 & 3134-3137 should be moving to ENY shortly for burn-in! 3074-3077 recently arrived after a lot of questioning on its whereabouts. 3126-3129 also recently arrived, and are gonna transfer to Pitkin for testing in the Rockaways. The is basically almost fully NTT at this point, with the ratio of R32s to R179s only being 80:64.
  9. Damn, I really miss those poor R62As running on the , especially given the fact that I didn't get to have one final proper ride on them. It was such a shame that all they did was sit in Corona until their transfer to the for two months straight. Seeing them on the isn't the same because of those full-width cabs. 2081-2085 had the honor of being the last R62A to have left Corona, today, June 26, 2018. Only five singles are staying behind for work service. And the will soon follow in the 's (and 's) footsteps soon due to ENY becoming 100% NTT...
  10. Since many ideas have been thrown around lately, I'd figure I'd post my take on it. My take is somewhat deinterlining, though not entirely. should stay as-is. The should be moved to 8 Av Express service south of 59th, which frees up capacity on the 8 Av local tracks and eliminates merging at Canal St. It'll also be extended to Lefferts via Fulton St Exp. The should be rerouted to 63rd with the . will go up SAS with the . is diverted to Astoria, thus reducing any sort of impact on Broadway. To replace service on Fulton Local, the would be rerouted there. Late nights, the would be truncated to a shuttle between 57 St-7 Av and Astoria. are both extended to Bay Ridge-95 St via 4 Av Local all times to replace service. will either stay as-is or be extended to 9 Av or Bay Pkwy. Instead of diverting the to QBL, I would create a new rush hour service running from Forest Hills-71 Av to WTC, almost identical to the (albeit via QBL local). This would separate the expresses/locals from each other, and allow for supplemental service to the on QBL to make up for the loss of service. The via QBL on the other hand, would require a merge with the between 42 St-Port Authority and 50 St. Although you could keep the local to QBL, it'll still merge at Canal. In my plan, however, the (expresses) and (locals) are completely segregated from each other, and the only thing required is a crossover switch north of 50 St to allow the to merge to the express without conflicting with service. Now you may say, "you're just moving the problem to 50 St" but this is different because the won't be holding up the anymore, nor will it hold up the in any way. I would extend the as-is to Bay Ridge because it would be more simpler to do than making an entirely different line. I do see points that the will be one long route, but line length will be irrelevant since you could easily terminate a few trains at Chambers or Broad if it really proved to be a problem. Now for the . The to me is a service that's always treated poorly solely due to the fact that it doesn't go to Manhattan. It wasn't even cut back due to the latter reason in the first place, it was only cut back either most of time/permanently because the needed to fit, and also due to cost-cutting back in 2010. If ridership was really the problem, it would've been cut back much sooner. Anyways, I would (as mentioned earlier) at the very least send it to Queens Plaza. Despite the fact it would only be able to turn 12 TPH as @RR503 pointed out, I don't think the would need to get a significant boost in TPH, given that's it's only being extended one stop, and 12 TPH would be just fine if it really did need an increase. Extending it to Queensboro Plaza and/or 21 St-Queensbridge would require new tunnels. as opposed to sending it to Queens Plaza, where only a simple crossover switch would be necessary. Long story short, to sum it up, this is my plan for *somewhat* deinterlining QBL/Broadway. - increased to 10 TPH, rerouted to 8 Av Exp and Fulton St Exp to Lefferts - unchanged, both 15 TPH - extended to Queens Plaza, 12 TPH - 6-10 TPH, new rush hour service to Forest Hills - 12 TPH, extended to Bay Ridge - rerouted to 63rd, 10-12 TPH - rerouted to SAS, 10-12 TPH - diverted to Astoria, 10 TPH Sorry for the long post.
  11. I've always not been a big fan of sending the to SAS. It won't work after Phase 3 opens unless express tracks or a lower level are built (knowing MTA, they won't), and the would be forced to run 19/7 unless the got extended back. The will already have adequate SAS coverage and the only realistic way to send the somewhere, without building lower levels/express tracks/stub-ends, is 63rd. However, I guess you could say sending the up SAS pre-Phase 3 would be the best option. Now I do see your point about delays affecting other lines, but alternatively, we could swap the and , so that the could exclusively go to QBL local via 63rd, and exclusively to QBL express via 53rd. That would be a lesser evil because there would be no merging at 36 St or Queens Plaza between the expresses/locals, and the wouldn't have to merge with any additional lines. Unfortunately, crowding on 53rd St may return to pre-2001 levels. But overall, sending the via 63rd vs. reextending the seems like a "pick your poison" option. In my opinion, I think the 's current terminus at Court Sq isn't really good since it wasn't meant to be one. Ever since the got cut back, it misses crucial connections to other lines, and was reduced in length. Like above, I would send it to Forest Hills, but it doesn't go to Manhattan. I do see your point about the passenger guessing game, which is indeed reminiscent of when 21 St-Queensbridge was a terminal. However, back then, countdown clocks weren't added yet. Now that the latters are being added to each station, it'll be very easy to tell which track a Brooklyn-bound will depart at. Plus, I also mentioned "new transfers between Queensboro Plaza/Queens Plaza should be constructed" since the latter two are in close proximity to each other, so simply constructing the latter transfer would already give riders a multitude of options to choose from, even if it was simply extended to Queens Plaza.
  12. Will 1905 leave Corona? Some of the singles you mentioned were staying at Corona actually left (1901, 1904, 1907, 1908, 1923). 1902, 1903, 1906, and 1910 are all hooked to flatbed cars, so that means they'll be staying for work service. However, 1905 is isolated from the rest and is sitting in front of an R188 by itself.
  13. If Broadway is deinterlined, both the should go to Astoria. This is because 38 St Yard in Sunset Park could be staged to accommodate revenue trains for the . However, the cannot handle QBL alone. I would suggest extending the back to Forest Hills, but that's controversial. Instead, the should run via 63rd into Queens to replace the . New transfers between Queensboro Plaza/Queens Plaza should be constructed because the two are very close, and this connection would be very vital. It would allow for easier intra-Queens transfers without having to backtrack into Manhattan. Finally, instead of sending it to Forest Hills, I'd throw in a little extension of the to Queens Plaza since the would no longer be utilizing the outer tracks. A crossover switch will be added west of Queens Plaza to allow for this. While such a little extension, it would make transferring to the more convenient and would gain additional ridership. Riders wanting to continue their journey into Eastern Queens can transfer across the platform. So now, it would look like this: : unchanged : Queens Plaza to Church Av : CI to Forest Hills-71 Av : CI to 96 St : Astoria to Bay Ridge, based out of 38 St : Astoria to Whitehall St, extended to Bay Pkwy rush hours
  14. It's been a little while, guess I should post an update: Sets based out of ENY for the 3050-3057, 3058-3065, 3066-3069, 3078-3081, 3082-3085, 3086-3089, 3090-3093, 3094-3097, 3098-3101, 3110-3113 (6 trains) Sets currently testing but haven't entered service yet 3102-3105, 3106-3109, 3114-3117, 3118-3121, 3122-3125, 3134-3137 (3 trains) Sets on their way soon 3126-3129, 3130-3133, 3138-3141 Sets currently at Bombardier for repairs/modifications 3010-3019, 3070-3077
  15. I guess I should clarify: I only said it "might" go back, but I'm unsure if it will, hence why I put that it could go either-or. The five-car set was there to move the single(s) around. Besides, 1924-1926-1934-1938-1942 all went as a scrambled five-car set, so 1901-1904-1907-1908 could possibly be linked to 1923. And an FYI- the singles mentioned earlier were transferred on separate occasions.
  16. 1923 with 2091-2095 to 239 St Yard 1923 I presume will be linked with 1901-1904-1907-1908 to form a five-car set. I think 2091-2095 will either: A) be hooked to the newly formed five-car set mentioned earlier so they can form a full-length train or B) will return to Corona Yard
  17. Agreed 100%. Also, he doesn't even realize that trains can simply terminate at Rockaway Park or Howard Beach-JFK if Far Rockaway-Mott Av really did have a problem turning trains. He also doesn't know that it's impossible to run the at 30TPH (every two minutes) because it shares tracks with the in Cranberry and the on CPW. Personally, I think he's trying to hide the secret from us. In other words, he wants to put up a justifiable reason for this pointless extension, but in reality, he only wants it built so he won't have to walk 20+ minutes. You know, I've watched him post several maps that still have the extension to Reeds Lane, which won't be faster than taking the Q113/Q114 to Far Rockaway. I think he's just too afraid to admit he's wrong. Think about it, if he was open to change things up a bit, he would've removed this extension months ago. But he's not, and continues to ignore our criticisms. He never looks back at his 2028 map thread and learns the lesson. It's just like making a mistake, learning from it, and moving on. But in this case, he keeps on making the same mistake, and never learns/moves on. Oh well...
  18. Are you seriously keeping that extension to Reeds Lane?
  19. Train of Many Metals was the best! I rode that set the most out of all the trains present. The R10/R16 looked very slick and colorful. I was also satisfied that they finally brought the R40 Slant out for a run. It's not really used a lot on fan trips with the aforementioned consist. Anyways, I got to chat with @Dj Hammers (again) and even met @j express. We talked about R32s going to the with a small chance of popping up on the , the upcoming nostalgia rides to Coney Island/Rockaways, Yankee Specials to Rockaway Park, etc. But unfortunately, the D-Types (Triplex) broke down and the BMT Standards were taken out of service earlier in the parade today because they were only operating at half power. So for the majority of the 17th, the only trains running were the BRT Gate Cars and TOMM. I also noticed most people went on the 16th, especially teenage railfans. It was also nice to meet @Dj Hammers. He's probably my most favorite subway youtuber, and he's also the most infamous.
  20. The Parade of Trains was such a blast today! I had so much fun, especially riding the Train of Many Metals. I literally took like 50 photos alone. I even got to shake hands/meet with Mr. Dj-Max-Diamond-Hammers himself while riding in the R10. Who's going tomorrow?
  21. Anyways, I've suggested sending the to Fulton but not the . I wouldn't send both to Fulton- one should go to the latter while the other goes to SBK. I think the via Whitehall thingy is overkill, so all that should be done is sending the to Fulton. The former would require rearranging tracks, making reroutes more harder, and would sever the south of City Hall. The latter only requires a simple track connection between Court St and Lawrence St, and is much more cheaper/simple to do. I do agree that the current hauls like garbage and is notoriously delayed. That's why we have a ton of old threads with ideas for extending the or to South Brooklyn. But since no one uses the one-seat ride to Midtown, I think it will be a good investment to replace the with Nassau service. If riders will bail, Nassau will ultimately provide more transfer options than the , so it makes the most sense as a feeder. Despite how long the line will be, I think it would make sense to just extend both the to Bay Ridge-95 St. The could also be extended to Bay Pkwy for additional rush hour service. The will be rerouted to Fulton St, allowing the to go express to Lefferts. In turn, the can get based out of Pitkin, and could then run from Astoria to Euclid Av. The could then support the on SAS or run via 63rd to QBL. Another reason why extending the to 95 St in place of the is beneficial is because the have less merges and less bottlenecks/congestion (one bottleneck at Myrtle for , several bottlenecks for the ). In fact, this will give riders in Bay Ridge more frequent service. But let's say we get to Phase 4, and the is extended to Hanover Square. Since Fulton would already have the , I would suggest capturing the LIRR Atlantic Branch, and reroute service to Jamaica. Capturing the LIRR Atlantic Branch would allow for an express to Lower Manhattan for Jamaica riders, and would relieve Fulton/QBL. This won't do any harm to normal LIRR service because after ESA is built, the line is slated to be truncated into a shuttle between Atlantic Terminal and Jamaica. Now that the subway is taking over it, this frees up TPH on LIRR tracks. New track connections will be built so the and could swap with each other at any given time. Overall though, sending the to Fulton would be good for the short-term when the is not around. However, in the long-term, SAS to Fulton is the best option. The to Fulton basically parallels my proposed IND Utica Av line (eg. the goes to Kings Plaza while in the long-term, the platforms are shaved back, and the would take its place.) Sorry for the long post.
  22. People have proposed this in the past but connecting the to Whitehall would involve severing the south of City Hall. I don't think there's room for a flying junction to allow for this, and it would have to be either or (not both). However, if the Manhattan Bridge goes down, there's nowhere to send the except for Nassau or 8 Av in your plan. Currently, if the latter happens, the will simply run via Whitehall to Broadway. Removing the south of City Hall would remove this simplicity. I assume the present-day would be truncated to City Hall. I think your plan would look like this? : 168 St to Lefferts Blvd via 8 Av Local and Fulton St Exp via Whitehall : Jamaica Center to Euclid Av via QBL Exp, 8 Av Local, and Fulton St Local via Whitehall : Jamaica Center to Bay Ridge-95 St via Jamaica Express/Skip-Stop, Nassau St, and 4 Av Local : Forest Hills/Astoria to City Hall Though I can see the logic for sending the to Fulton. I think that would be more feasible/cheaper than sending the via Whitehall. As for the replacing the , I somewhat agree. I can see logic for it with the being delayed most of the time. People on here have proposed sending the to Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, and Brighton in the past. Though I would only send the to Bay Ridge if it were to be extended to SBK. But as mentioned before, it's controversial (not as much as the R32/R179 fiasco) and would leave Bay Ridge with no Midtown access.
