I'm not sure if @Bill from Maspeth, @Trainmaster5, @RTOMan, or @mediccjh are online but I have a question regarding stop markers throughout the subway system. Isn't the "S" stop marker used to indicate the stopping position for all trains, regardless of the number of cars? If that's true, why do you see stations where the S plate is preceeded by 4-/6-/8-car stop markers? If I have the definition of the S plate wrong, this is 100% on me. If it's not, is there an explanation for this?

That doesn't make any sense and is incorrect. The track gauge of the New York City Subway and the Staten Island Railway are equivalent: standard gauge – 4 feet 8 1/2 inches. The R211S cars have to be equipped with cab signalling to operate on the SIR. This has absolutely nothing to do with track gauge... Further, the SIR is not subject to the majority of the federal regulations that railroads have to comply with, it's technically an isolated subway system...

Aspects of the railfan community that I despise, and there are numerous, is this insistence in taking unconfirmed information as absolute truths. I've always been a naturally inquisitive person, so the gullible are among those who tick me off pretty bad. These "events" attract a lot of weird ass people who are pronounced enough in their ways that's led me to create a pact with myself to downright refuse attending these things. I'm not convinced that the R211s were going to run today at all, nor did I believe there were any plans to do so today either. When I see those trains in passengers service with my own eyes, then I'll check them out. Until then, I'm not going to sweat a hypothetical. I actually wish this thing were done at complete random so the odds are even amongst anyone seeing it, but only time will tell. One thing is clear, and that's me seeking out that train long after it's inaugural run. I like my personal space, lol.

What's the point in having the SMEE's be compatible/interoperable with the NTT's? Spending millions of dollars to rebuild the SMEE's from the ground up just to say they could run linked to NTT's is a short-sighted idea since the cost to do so would be as much as it would be to just purchase new subway cars.

personally the only thing I like about them is the cup holder on the cab door. Still amazed no one thought of that sooner.

What's ironic, though, is that eating and drinking is prohibited in those cabs...

I think being a teacher would be pretty cool, but I would get a master's in STEM and teach at a community college, it's better and the pay is higher.

It's true that this process is unfair but try not to adopt this mindset going into that job. The  doesn't care how anyone feels and if you're not careful, you will personally feel like they're going after you in this position. The folks here who work RTO will let you know 100%.

Yeah, they want to rule it out completely. If anything, that benefits you. If you don't happen to have it, that's good. If you do have it, you'll be given time to fix it so you could not only feel better, but be in good health. This all comes without you having to worry about not making it into schoolcar. Try to feel calm in the mind about it. I missed the deadline to take the DSNY Sanitation Worker test last year and doing physical work driving the garbage truck really appeals to me but you bet that if I start the pre-employment process for that job and they put me on any kind of medical hold I'd address it before training because it will present itself when I'm working which is what you absolutely don't want. If you want this job, go through the steps and you'll be fine. If it's just for the paycheck... The stress is going to have a sit down talk with you man...

I am a healthy individual and these issues are SPECULATIVE and the applicatnt should be allowed to go to class while having these medical issues addressed by the doctor to see if there is an actual issue. If the applicant does not address the issue with a physician or if there’s an issue during the time period of the class then yes I understand that you should be kicked out but you don’t deny the applicant the opportunity to go to the class after waiting freaking 6,7,8 years!!!

If you have sleep apnea they want to make sure that you get that issue under control before you have to work the trains. The reason why is because they call the conductor title one that is "safety sensitive." If you are sleep deprived most of the time, it can cause your focus on the repetitive nature of the position to periodically lapse, which is risky, because those C/R's operate on muscle memory, where a mistake can get you in trouble if it falls out of rhythm. When you're bouncing around NYC as an XX with no stable assignment your quality of sleep will sure as hell matter a lot.

not sure what you’re reading but obviously we won’t have 2019 numbers. We just came out of a pandemic. Ridership is slowly going up. 

Actually no, @TOSironi is correct. A single-day high doesn't correlate with a boom of consistent ridership. The  is looking to cut service, not add. The WFH model has contributed to the low ridership, and with the agency pushing to raise fares, it's evident that ridership isn't as high as it use to be pre-pandemic. I do agree 100% that the people working in RTO should get a raise, it's a lot of BS they're put through to get any sort of stability, and they rightfully deserve it.
